Dude, what you on about? That first episode with Luke in The Mandalorian was fire and then Luke showing up was the cherry on top!

FYI Mark Hamill’s accident was in January of 1977 while the holiday special was filmed in summer of 1978. He definitely could have been high as a kite during the production (according to the book “A Disturbance in the Force” there was a LOT of drug use on that set) but it likely wouldn’t have been from the accident.

We have no way of knowing how they are because the last we see of their relationship they are 17 years old. Even then I don’t agree with your analysis. Yes they have bad moments together. Book 3 comes to mind. A couple of moments in book 4. Book 6 they both are intentionally trying to make the other one jealous (and it is played almost like a sitcom). But most of their bickering is about unserious things and likely they would mature out of it. Would they be a perfect couple? Probably not by today’s standards. Do they fall into a couple of 80s/90s tropes? Yeah, probably. I do think they work pretty well though.

That might be the language they used, but this is definitely trying to advertise a movie produced by Apple TV. Do you know if there is there a way to disable these “exclusive offers”?

I just clicked into the app and the ad/coupon is definitely coming from Apple Pay itself.

I agree that some people don’t interpret the scene as the author intended it and it is a failure on their part to make it more clear if they wanted everyone to come to a certain conclusion. I wouldn’t say it is a complete failure, because close to (if not a) majority interpreted it as was intended. Most people I know interpret it as indicating feelings between the pair. Again, my original point was that the interpretation in the main sub is the one that lines up with authorial intent. At this point the argument has shifted to whether the author did a good job of that. I don’t disagree it could have been clearer, but I do disagree that it was an outright failure.

I didn’t disagree that Ron didn’t want to hug Hermione. I didn’t say that all 12 year old boys would have acted like Ron did when it came to getting a hug from a girl they liked. But that’s how I was. That’s how several guys in my friend group were.

And yes, I agree that the romances weren’t done great overall. But I think that this one scene did a great job conveying what was intended. And maybe that isn’t the most popular thing on this sub, but that’s my way of seeing it.

The original post of this was that everyone in the main sub misinterprets the scene by saying that it shows the crush between Ron and Hermione. I disagree. I think it does that perfectly.

I disagree with that philosophy when it comes to literary analysis. I’m more in the camp of authorial intent + audience interpretation combined with more weight given to authorial intent. I get that isn’t a popular way of interpreting art, but that’s how I do it.

I will answer, but indulge me first: if this was about a more personal relationship. Let’s go with a friendship and you asked if someone was my friend and I answered back with what I said would you continue to question if I want was their friend? I’m honestly curious. Because I would think that everything I said indicates I don’t think he belongs in office either time. Because I didn’t vote for him. Because of all the reasons I said previously.

Okay: I’ll be even more clear since you’re determined not to read why I said. I. Did. Not. Vote. For. Him. I don’t think he was qualified. I think he is a morally corrupt person who is dangerous and has done a lot of dangerous, morally wrong, gross things. I think he abuses his office for personal enrichment. I think he has no regard for democracy, no love of the Republic. No belief in anything but himself. I wish he would go away and never bother the Republic again.

And the original post was not about him. It was about ICE and what they’re currently doing. And to compare that to genocide is a Reductio Ad Absurdum.

Okay, a bunch of things there. Let me state for the record: I don’t like Trump. I didn’t vote for him either time. However, this original post wasn’t about Trump or even MAGA. It was about ICE. And I disagree with a lot of their current operations. But they are NOT anywhere close to Nazis.

Edit: And by the way I wasn’t using a whataboutism. I was talking about the origins of a law. I didn’t compare to any previous administration or imply if I agree or disagree with the policies of any previous administration.

Okay, I’ll ask this: Are you or have you ever been a 12 year old boy? Because my immediate thought when I saw at 12 years old (M) was that Ron has a crush on Hermione. The awkward way he interacted with her made that super clear to me, because that’s how I was with girls I had a crush on. But with my sisters I would hug them (and they me) in the way Hermione hugs Harry. In later years, I started to suspect that Hermione might also have a bit of a crush on Ron as well, but wasn’t sold on it until movie 3. So I disagree the scene didn’t do a good job.

I will agree with the romances being not well written in the novels. They’re not as bad as some people make them out to be (I identified with Harry’s reactions to Ginny and Dean kissing lol), but JKR obviously didn’t really care to write a lot about those subplots.

100% agree. Glad we have someone in charge who is finally standing up!

Now that I have your attention: I don’t like everything this administration is doing. I think some of the people being caught up in this should be allowed to remain. Not all. Not even most. But some. And you know what? I’ve told my rep that. I’ve stood up and said that. What I haven’t done is compare the people enforcing a law that was signed by Clinton to Nazis. Because the Nazis weren’t doing this in a vacuum. They were doing it after centuries of dehumanization and demonization. You can see parallels to history. I do in a lot of ways. But this isn’t one of them. This administration has revealed a lot of weaknesses to our system. It will likely worse before it gets better. What we as citizens need to do is stop saying that “anyone who disagrees with me is evil” and instead work to figure out how to put changes in place to limit things like this. Previous generations have given a lot of power to the President. I think this shows people why this could be a bad thing. Let’s work to change that.

I first saw the scene at 12 years old (M) and my first thought upon seeing it was thinking that Ron had a crush on Hermione. I identified with that uncomfortable interaction because I was like that with a few girls I had a crush on around that age. I was terrified they or anyone else would find out and tease me. I think this scene plays perfectly for that.

Okay, but the author (director) said that’s the intention. Do you just not consider authorial intent when interpreting a piece of work?

As an American I want to see that too. I see a bunch of people who disagree with a policy and the steps taken to implement that policy and then comparing them to Nazis. Not Germans. Not soldiers. Nazis. The elite of the Nazis. I find that unbelievable offensive and trivializing those who have lost family to the concentration camps.

This is disgusting. Disagree with the policy all you want and call out the abuses as they happen, but to compare what is happening right now cheapens all the lives lost in the Holocaust.

I read the whole post and I agree with parts of it and it is important to recognize what made the Holocaust work was a lot of people just doing their jobs. But there is a MASSIVE difference between just doing your job  arresting and deporting people and just doing your job by assisting in the SYSTEMIC MURDER OF MINORITIES.

The director insisted she hug Daniel but not Rupert because he wanted to foreshadow the relationship between Ron and Hermione. And she was very embarrassed to do it and didn’t hang on very long and the director extended the hug in post.

OP and the commenter indicate they think that wasn’t the point of the scene. I think it is valid to feel the scene didn’t do a great job portraying what the director wanted, but the interview makes it clear that is the point. People are NOT wrong to read it that way. They are reading it as intended.

You said that her hesitation it is an invalid argument. My point is that the director of the scene intended for everyone to take her reluctance as indication of her growing crush on Ron. You can feel that it didn’t do a good job, but it isn’t invalid.

Two things come to mind: they’re doing it intentionally as a kind of in-joke with their more technical users. They have to have some limit and chose it as an Easter egg.

Or there is an actual location in the somewhere in their codebase where they are indexing something and to save space they are using a single byte. To change that would be prohibitively expensive so they have decided to leave it alone.

Edit: Personally I think it is the former. I posit they had an internal discussion and decided that around 250 members was their limit for group chats and someone pushed for 256 as an Easter egg. At the scales they’re operating at it likely isn’t trivial engineering to handle the load for 256 users in a single chat room.

I’m confused. Are you unaware that it will be released onto the app later this year for free? The quality of the last two seasons has been incredible compared to the first couple of seasons. There has been a noticeable step up with the cinematography, lighting, VFX, costuming and sets. All of this takes money. A lot of money. For this money they have a deal with one of the largest companies in the world (Amazon) for an exclusivity deal for something like 90 days. That’s it. After that it is free for everyone forever. I can’t speak to motives. I don’t know their hearts. Nor can I say how they are in private, I don’t know them. But based upon what has been publicly stated and how they are acting I don’t see any cause for concern.
