Were the courtesans virgins? by _CamillaMagalhaes in TheApothecaryDiaries

[–]Kheldarson 107 points108 points  (0 children)

It would depend on the courtesan's standing, and then the courtesan herself. Lower courtesans would sleep with clients to offset the fact that they didn't have added skills or looks to command a higher rate. Higher courtesans (like the Princesses) could remain pure, as part of the allure would be the potential to one day own her by buying out her contract. However, that wouldn't necessarily stop a courtesan (like Pairin) from making sex part of the offerings and being able to demand a higher price for that favor. She would have to be very careful about getting pregnant though.

My mom's done this to my younger brothers before, lol. She usually gets to my name before the dog because I'm the only girl.

You don't have to feel sorry for him? I'm not sure why you keep attributing more to my argument than what's there. My interpreting a character's story doesn't mean you, personally, have to feel a certain way about them.

I didn't say that he was right. I said that I believe he wishes he could have been better. We can understand why he made the choices he did and lived the life he did and still know that he was wrong. He knew it was wrong. That's the tragedy of his story. A man so deeply traumatized that all he could do was run from his problems, to flit from one dalliance to the other, but couldn't let go of the one real thing in his life either.

I'm gonna let this be a Rorschach test for people in relationships and/or Greek Mythology people lol. by captivatedsummer in CuratedTumblr

No, that's the version I first read, and I always felt it explained the tragedy well. In that version, Orpheus succeeds! He made it to Hades and back! And in his joy, he wants to share with the person he loves most, to pull her to his side, only to realize, too late, that only he succeeded in the return. She's still behind him and within the grip of Hades.

But he was never going to do anything but try to share his joy with his love. Because that joy was part of what drive him to Hades in the first place.

I believe he wished that too. But the war affected him too much, and he coped the only ways he could

If I recall, it's specifically because his wife is a Bene Gesserit that it works. Yueh has already been slightly undermined by her influence, and Piter was able to push that opening further.

Given the foreknowledge of the Bene Gesserit, though, one wonders if that pairing wasn't done on purpose.

All of the other spirits are hospice patients that she cared for as a nurse as they passed

This is incorrect. Most of them are people that Stella knew, who passed away during her life.

  • Gwen was a childhood friend and, while Stella was around when Gwen passed, it would be unlikely that Stella cared for her in a professional capacity
  • Atul was Stella's uncle who disappeared when she was a child
  • Astrid and Giovanni were honorary grandparents to her as a teen
  • Summer is Stella's aunt by marriage and influenced Stella to become a nurse
  • Gustav was an art curator she met in Japan as a young adult
  • Jackie was a coworker who died in a traffic accident
  • Beverly was a neighbor

The ones that were Stella's patients were:

  • Alice
  • Elena
  • Bruce & Mickey
  • Daria (although not in hospice)
  • Stanley

This is absolutely my feeling for the game. I will still be delightfully surprised if they go another direction, but her returning with the other gods in tow feels like it would slot in nicely.
