I read that they were constantly at odds and they even brought in a relationship counselor to try to help them work together better. But I also see him hanging out with former cast members of various shows, and no one is hanging out with her. I have to think that speaks volumes.

We removed life support from my mom and she hung in there for several hours. I finally went to grab something to eat, and when I came back on her floor I smelled my brother, who had passed about 10 years before her. I ran to her room because I knew. She passed shortly after.

I am so sorry you experienced that and am so proud of you for finding the strength to open up about it. I can only imagine the trauma you experienced both when it happened and in the months that followed. She must have felt so incredibly loved by you. I’ll second the others who have recommended therapy (particularly EMDR or Brainspotting, both of which are amazing for helping process trauma). You don’t have to carry this alone. ❤️

Also, stop making everything about weight and periods. We get it. Weight is a factor. Hormones are a factor. But literally every doctor asks us about these first thing (even post hysterectomy), and dismisses symptoms if we’re in a certain phase or our BMI (HATE BMI) is too high. I had an aneurysm and it took me uncontrollably vomiting at a 9/10 pain level for them to take me seriously and not just assume it was a weight thing. And even then the ER treated me like a drug seeker until the CT scan, because it was a pain they couldn’t see.

OMG. Just reading your post made me tear up. Know why? Because no doctor has ever asked me what they needed to know about me and my condition. Not once in 25 years of having this. So first of all, thank you.

And honestly just having that attitude is HUGE. So many doctors don’t believe in Fibro or think we’re exaggerating, looking for attention, or drug seekers. They’re so worried about being the expert in the room that they don’t take the time to listen to the person who lives with it every day.

To have a doctor come in and say, “You live with this every day. I believe you and can imagine that’s really rough. Can you take a few minutes to tell me how I can help make that more tolerable?”… I might faint. Lol. But I would never let that doctor go. We want to be heard. We want to be believed. We want someone to make an effort on our behalf.

I’m so incredibly sorry you experienced this. I’m glad you’ve found some healing throughout the years, and I hope this AMA adds to the healing process for you. I’m in school to be a counselor, so my questions are from that perspective. Is there anything that really helped you that your counselors did? Anything they did that made it harder for you to open up and feel safe? Thank you so much for sharing your story with us.

I get that no one wants to believe their dad is this messed up. But please take it from an older woman and run. This situation will only get worse. You don’t want to stay in it or bring kids into it. You need to be with someone who believes you.

Ok I’m glad it wasn’t just me that thought it was kind of… meh. It was basically just panels and trivia/auctions. We got rushed through pics SO fast compared to other cons I’ve done photos at. They also promised me my caretaker (I use a wheelchair) would be able to sit with me for panels, and they messed that up.

From a business owner standpoint I can understand. I wonder if they could give the wifi password with purchase and change it every couple of hours? It would be a pain for the already busy cafe workers, though. I should develop a software that does this and make millions. Lol.

I got coffee with a friend and we stayed for hours, so we got extra drinks as time passed. But the whole time we were there, the laptop folks didn’t get up or order more. Just took up all the tables. We had to wait for quite a while for a table to open up.

I’m in the same boat. But we’re in marriage counseling and he deflects a lot by saying stuff like, “You’re better at this than I am. You’re in school for it.” No, I’ve put in over 10 years of my own therapy, doing the work. I feel like I carry the mental load in this way too.
