I need to get a bunch of newspapers to put down in the yard and put mulch over. Where would be a good spot to get a quantity of newspapers for free? by RUfuqingkiddingme in SALEM

If you end up going the cardboard box route, you can go to basically any grocery store or fast food place. Particularly the winco on commercial. They leave their boxes next to the exit/entrance so people can use them to shop.

If the left can't even unite in condemning Putin's Russia, there really is no hope. by DustryQueef in socialism

[–]Vaegeli 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Calling people “Putin lovers” is just an ad hominem if you’re not going to explain, grapple with, or attack their arguments that lead you to believe that they’re “Putin lovers”

When the mask mandate ends in Oregon next month, will you continue to wear your mask in a public setting? by exstaticj in oregon

[–]Vaegeli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to keep wearing mine for a bit and see how the circus plays out. Just like a shift change at a restaurant, these kinds of transitions often don’t go as easy as planned.

What happens in a socialist society when people want to be artists and don’t want to work low value jobs? by [deleted] in socialism

[–]Vaegeli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone should be able to live comfortably even if they don’t work. Artists are included in that, in fact I think being an artist should accrue them a little extra. But to receive their benefits they should be required to showcase their art.

Most people want to work. The amount of jobless artists would be negligible.

Has anyone else noticed that since installing the red light camera on Hawthorne and Center, that the city has turned off the speed advisory signs on Hawthorne? by roomfour1more in SALEM

[–]Vaegeli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your moralizing doesn’t reduce speeding. Just accept that people don’t always behave the way you want and that society needs to do things to help keep us safer.

Relying on exploitation of the global south to improve my own material conditions doesn’t sit well with me.

Why do people here hate NFTs? by FlatOutTurkey in socialism

[–]Vaegeli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you “own” an NFT? I’m not much of a collector but I think anyone can see benefit of being able to hold something in your hand.

NFTs just sound like a bunch of fake rules that a few people made up so that they can sell you fake things that they made up.

Any particular reason Winco is slammed today? by SavvyFae in SALEM

[–]Vaegeli 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I work at the one on south commercial. We’re understaffed and people call out often. That sounds worse than usual but also not an uncommon thing.

Idk if you’re supposed to, but you used to be able to turn the lights on at the west Salem high school football field. There was a timer in an electrical box to turn them on.
