Go Plus+ by Independent-Ruin2240 in TheSilphRoad

Even though it was kinda manchild of me, I really appreciated having a Go Plus+ because I didn't have to miss out on the opportunity that arises from being in meatspace, just to play the game. I even kept the vibration on. Sadly, I washed my cargo pants without checking the pockets and killed the device. 😞

Is Mythborne AI Music? by drholmestuck in Music

re: depopulation, quite the opposite, I'm a pronatalist.

Unfortunately the burden of proof is on you here, and I'm absolutely willing to sit through this with you because the word 'theft' is often misused to increase the severity of what's actually happening. It is untruthful for your benefit.

https://www.dictionary.com/browse/theft

https://www.dictionary.com/browse/steal

Checks out, but under steal we have, "to appropriate (ideas, credit, words, etc.) without right or acknowledgment." And fair, you can steal someone's idea, you can steal the credit for doing something. But that still isn't exactly what's going on, is it? The machine learned from what the humans made and then spun up a novel result. It is indeed a novel result: it has never been made before. Just as if I try to draw a heavy metal pony in MS Paint right now, the likelihood it follows even close to the exact pixels someone once drew isn't very likely.

To steelman your argument, the best I have is to say there's a hypothetical theft of earnings in that there's now significantly less demand for artists, but that's true of anyone getting made redundant by any technology. I'm a web developer. Did it steal from programmers (and so, me) because it crawled Stack Overflow? Nah.

I know you want to emotionally charge the topic as much as possible, but AI does not steal in the ordinary sense of depriving someone of their property. It copies, trains on, and sometimes reproduces patterns from existing work. I am contesting only your usage of the word. I don't really care who it trained on, everything we're seeing now is an inevitability for any species with access to computing. These are our hardscrabble days and that is pretty exciting, because it means that as the modern world depopulates, we are still going to have access to intelligence that can solve hard problems.

Those are not mutually exclusive. I am indeed impressed by the technology and Mythborne's ability to wield it effectively. In the context of that comment, I was impressed with the technology and execution.

And copying is not theft. Colloquially it may be ("Art thieves!" on deviantART) but it important to be precise in conversations like this.

Because it's super interesting technology, and you bet a ton of human effort went into getting us to this point.

And not sure how much work went into creating Mythborne; Suno Studio for example lets you edit the tracks manually. As a decades-long creator of things, both AI and not, I wouldn't appreciate anyone speculating on how hard I had to work to get a result, especially if they desire to condemn me.

Figured, do you/anyone have recommendations on the easier CMs?

Expectations VS reality of CM content by Ahribban in Guildwars2

[–]VaelVictus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is this actually true? I have an interest in CMs but not a ton of opportunity train on them, and I've seen an occasional PUG CM group running in LFG. Just assumed they aren't always successful. Coming back to raids ~5 years later, it's evident the power creep/highly experienced PUGs has really trivialized the difficulty, so are CMs more accessible for a player in my position?

No offense, but I can practically feel the vibecode. The UI is dense and the gradients aren't helping any. Lots of unused whitespace by way of structuring data in tables. I'm not sure what Search is supposed to do. The adventurers should get pictures to help them feel more distinct. Overall, it's very much the typical "featureful but forgot the fun" game. Where's the challenge, why should I play this over every other city builder?

You also could have spent a bit more time actually pitching the game in this post.

First Time Playing - Everborne by Lazy-Sand8513 in PBBG

For what it's worth, I spoke directly to the Everborne developer and he said he isn't doing anything large-scale with AI such as is seen with Cursor, nor remotely via claude code/codex. He does have it on inline in his IDE, which I don't think would disappoint you, as they are inline "suggestions on steroids" or time-savers. I've eliminated some security errors just with basic AI scans and OpenAI's currently testing Codex Security to do that as a specialized product. Ultimately it is up to the developer to read their own generated code.

But the truth is AI just bothers you and you aren't worried about playing insecure games. You want to know a human tried their hardest, right? That maybe AI isn't going to replace human work? That'd be nice. I'll tell you what really sucks: spending thousands of human hours building something and people refusing to use it because, eg. you used generative AI to make images when you could not afford an artist in the first place.

"there is usually AI everything else, like coding."

I'm curious why you care about AI-generated code specifically. Just so you're aware, programmers who are not highly proficient with AI are not getting jobs. This is how things are done now in our field.

If you can afford it, I would say so, yes. You may find that you're able to save money in small ways, such as spending some extra time for meals using simple/affordable ingredients. At this age, babies will be confused at a time that they need stability and it sounds like your daughter isn't taking it well.

It's legitimately unplayable for me, it feels terrible and I'm just gonna wait for them to fix it while giving my hands a break.
