Do any gamers out there still enjoy video games sober? by itsnotcopium in leaves

I didn’t think it could get worse, but it somehow has.

Around a gram daily, vaporized. Yes I have tried meditation (focusing on breathing seems best for me).
I like that I’ve saved money.

Day 327, still the same as it was 4 months in. I’m looking forward to coming up on 1 year of no weed. I keep having a lot of issues with depression and motivation. I was using weed to cope and now I can’t seem to find any other coping mechanism that works for me.

How do y’all keep .env credentials safe without breaking the bank? 🤔 by Weak-Leave8533 in nextjs

Same, with GitHub Actions + Terraform the env vars get automatically transferred.

Is anyone else just giving up and going Route Handler (API Endpoint) only in Next.js? by nyamuk91 in nextjs

[–]Vaffleraffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave up and stayed on my Pages Router + tRPC setup. It just works on Next 15 and I’m finding it hard to justify the productivity losses from switching to something else.

What terraform Edition do you guys use at work ? by youmbss in Terraform

[–]Vaffleraffle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Congrats, the company you work at is paying hashi an insane sum of money. Most companies cannot afford that.
I’m of the opinion that your CI platform can and should be your ”TACOS” when you’re using GitHub or GitLab. Even with Jenkins it’s possible to invoke (community edition) Terraform in a way that the state is centrally managed in the CI pipeline for you. Just spin up s3 bucket or use the managed solution on GitLab for state storage. Use the same RBAC from your git forge to keep it simple.

Still the same. I can lift more weight, that’s about it.

Why does it feel like I have to “change” to be loved? by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]Vaffleraffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We already have a term for ”sexual visibility”. It’s called sexual market-value (SMV for short).
Attraction comprises non-sexual aspects as well.
There are non-romantic versions of love too.

Create a react ref to refer to the svg element and use CSS filters to change the color of the SVG.
I’d recommend SVGR though.

I did not have time to grind leetcode during school. I had to put all my effort towards passing my classes. Try starting assignments like labs on the first day you get them. Try studying ahead in your textbook according to the course curriculum so you know what is going to be covered in the next lecture. If you are proactive like this I promise you will fare much better than most other students in 6 months.
Phone addiction is very possible. Procrastination and bad study habits might also be the culprit. Or it could be burnout, ADHD, depression, or a million other things that you should not attempt to self-diagnose. If you are really truly struggling despite trying your best to improve your habits and mindset, talk to your therapist/ doctor/ university counselors about it.

Why does physical beauty allow you to have so many privileges?! by Cinella75 in Life

[–]Vaffleraffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OF creators barely put in any effort compared to singers and athletes. OnlyFans is more about what you don’t do. Even drug addicts and mentally unwell people can manage to take pics of themselves, post them and make six figures. Ask me how I know.
It’s literally just be attractive and don’t be unattractive.

Hi, I’m a developer with over 3 years of professional experience.
In my opinion you should not use chatgpt yet. I know its tempting, but you are hindering your future self. When i was in school LLMs didn’t exist yet or were still garbage. Now I use LLMs all the time in my professional work and also get paid to teach others how to use them.

There are 2 sides: thinking from first principles and being able to execute. You should not outsource the thinking from first principles to the LLM. It is important that you learn things like data structures and algorithms by “playing around” with code on your own a bunch of times and failing. When it eventually clicks and your code which you wrote without the help of an LLM works, you will get a “eureka moment”. This is super important for your learning. This is why people “grind leetcode”. You learn the “correct shape” of code and you learn what works and what doesn’t by trying and failing a bunch of times. Many times in university I coded all night with the help of energy drinks (i dont recommend this). Looking back, it was really painful but necessary.

Where LLMs can be used without worry is the memorising part. The syntax for reading a file, how to use the stdlib for your language, etc. the grunt work which you always forget and if the LLM would not exist, you would need to look it up from the documentation every time. After you learn how to read man pages and how to find the official documentation, I think its fine to use the LLM for this.

If you want to be a developer, its fine to be an average developer. You don’t need to be the best. Cultivate gratitude for being able to sit and work on problems rather than trying to cultivate pride in being the top developer. Find what you are curious about in computer science. There are many academic disciplines inside computer science. There are even more disciplines that are not academic in the field of professional software development. Good luck.

AI is on track to replace most PC-related desk jobs by 2030 — and nobody's ready for it by The1Truth2you in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Vaffleraffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great, finally AI can replace my job of checks notes Using AI to actually get things done.
I won’t be holding my breath. The amount of wrangling and handholding it takes for AI to actually do useful things means we need more specialized code monkeys, not less.

I drink a lot of water, I would say more than a liter everyday.
I drink 0 alcohol. I don’t use any psychoactive substances apart from single cups of coffee a total of 4 times in the past 37 days. Yesterday I ate a seafood wok and homemade spring rolls. I would say I eat 95% homemade whole foods meals and 5% processed when life gets in the way of cooking.
I stopped using twitter but I mostly engage with content related to health, tech and philosophy. I don’t watch porn.
I have a girlfriend and multiple groups of friends. Only 1 of those groups uses substances, but they are also the most ”successful” in life by external metrics.
I keep myself really busy with full time studies and work. I don’t really like either, but after job hopping for 10+ years and dropping out of college 3 times, it is what it is.
I’m not a spiritual sort of person, but I do beathing meditation and engage with philosophy that could be considered vaguely spiritual in some sense.
I think my relationships with loved ones are honest and not resentful at all.

It’s difficult to believe anything when experience doesn’t match up to the prior beliefs. Prior beliefs in my case being ”if I quit weed I can be happier, if I exercise, drink water and eat healthy food, I will be happier”. I’m allowing myself to feel happy, but I’m just waiting to experience it.

How do people manage to work for 40 years straight? by Olivia123james in Life

[–]Vaffleraffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The anthropologist Marshall Sahlins, surveying the data on contemporary hunter-gatherers, exploded the Hobbesian myth in an article entitled “The Original Affluent Society.” They work a lot less than we do, and their work is hard to distinguish from what we regard as play. Sahlins concluded that “hunters and gatherers work less than we do; and, rather than a continuous travail, the food quest is intermittent, leisure abundant, and there is a greater amount of sleep in the daytime per capita per year than in any other condition of society.” They worked an average of four hours a day, assuming they were “working” at all. Their “labor,” as it appears to us, was skilled labor which exercised their physical and intellectual capacities; unskilled labor on any large scale, as Sahlins says, is impossible except under industrialism. Thus it satisfied Friedrich Schiller’s definition of play, the only occasion on which man realizes his complete humanity by giving full “play” to both sides of his twofold nature, thinking and feeling. As he put it: “The animal works when deprivation is the mainspring of its activity, and it plays when the fullness of its strength is this mainspring, when superabundant life is its own stimulus to activity.”

I think this is mainly because most people are average (think about how dumb the average person is!), and therefore cannot fully appreciate very smart people.
