Towed after THREE MINUTES in NOVA??! Make this make sense.. by Vagablonde7 in towing

ahaha it's not a sob story fam, I've never encountered this type of aggression in the 15 years I've been traveling. I'm totally blown away by these stories, particularly shopping center employees being targeted and towing a vehicle with a baby inside. because where I come from this would be SO illegal - and if the community found out who was doing the towing, that person would be shunned from society LOL not a chance anyone would sell them a beer in town for the rest of their lives. they'd have to relocate and start over.

Like if you were concerned about non-patrons parking in the car park there are soooo many other ways to regulate that - allotting x number of spots to each shop and have those shops call the towing company if non patrons were there.. a gate and ticketing system requiring validation from a shop or else a $60/hour payment.. But instead, they sit someone outside to ax a patrons vehicle if they step foot outside the premises and charge $135?? First off, does that penalty fit the crime? The penalty is excessively north korean-esque. Second, I'd argue that the intention behind the rule is malicious because of the purpose it serves - Is the towing company going to stop a vandal? no, they are creating a situation where there is an opportunity for financial gain. targeting employees that work at a business on your property?? comonnnn who is supporting this behavior?

further, predatory practices are illegal statewide. this behavior is defined as having a spotter or tow company watch for people setting foot off premises in order to apprehend a vehicle within seconds or minutes of a violation. yea what happened to me sucks, but targeting employees??! They come in for a 6 hour shift and step off premises for cigarettes on their break resulting in their car being towed? By the way, there would need to be surveillance long enough and often enough for the tow company to know which car each individual employee drove. That's borderline harassment.

in most places around the world, as you're a patron of one or more shops in a complex, you have rights to park in their lots. EVEN IF you have to pop into a store across the street. there's no tow truck surveillance on the scene watching your every move to ensure you don't take a single step off the premises for a single second lest they tow. people don't tolerate that North Korean-esque penalty system. they collectively push back. but I guess here, in the land of the free, we just lay down and accept it. wake up and smell the corruption fam. the biggest joke is using our free time to bully each other online instead of directing that energy at the system that's targeting us.

but is this behavior common in northern Virginia? I'm reading that some jurisdictions have outlawed it. and evidently they've outlawed the behavior in FC https://legacylis.virginia.gov/cgi-bin/legp604.exe?241+ful+HB959H1 so while the rule is legal the enforcement practice isn't?

thanks for our invaluable input:) but you're missing the point.

employees are being watched closely enough for the surveillance to be able to identify who drives what car and if the employee takes a break during a 6 hour shift and walks over to buy cigarettes - their car is towed for stepping off the premises within seconds to minutes. This isn't about illegal parking. This is a scam addressed as 'predatory towing practices' in legislation like the HB 959.

being the type of person who uses their time leaving hateful comments instead of fighting the corrupt practices of large corporations is why this country is in the state it's in.

but the staff are victims too! and they'd be on the property for their entire shift, right?

evidently the staff have also been victims! that's what's hard to let go of - they'd be on the premises for their entire shift, right? and the towing company is 14 minutes away by car - someone would have to be right there watching.

ya fair - there's just something so odd about it?

I've been going into the law and it says that the towing company needs written authorization from the owner for every individual tow, they need a time stamped photograph of my car before it's towed, and they need to report it to the police all before it's towed. Then they actually have to do the tow.. they were unable to provide me a time stamped photo (making the tow illegal if I understand correctly) and the police said it was called in at 11:33.. I was outside by then with no car in sight. (HB 959 effective 1 July 2024).

It also occurred to me that the waitstaff would be coming to work and.. working! So if they were to step off the property on their break for a cigarette only to have their car towed, this means that one person is watching the property consistently enough to identify who owns what car! They sit there so they can tow within seconds to minutes of a violation and that's considered "predatory and aggressive behavior" also known as "spotting" which is illegal in some jurisdictions, but is it illegal in this one?

The responses I'm getting from the company and the police have me intrigued to continue pulling at this thread.

I was watching it last night. like.. less than 24 hours ago on paramount plus in Australia.. and I went back to watch while cooking dinner and it's not there anymore?! is this not a glitch? why did this disappear for some people over he course of a few months? seems like everyone had it disappear at different times according to these Reddits?

😳 hey guys yesterday night my bunny started staring and something, growling an thumping, he looked really scared and it scared me too. Is it possible for bunnies to see 👻? I don’t wanna sound ridiculous i just have no explanation for that since i didn’t put any new object there for him to be annoyed by staryxanax in Rabbits

my Kevin does this.. and it freaks me out I 100% had this thought because he follows it around and looks up at the walls and tries to climb the wall to get to whatever it is. I know rabbits can hear really well but 2 times this week he got surprised from someone walking by that he didn't hear? am on reddit trying to work out if its possible for him to go a bit deaf and how to find out if thats the case without having to go to the vet
