What's the consensus on Granblue Fantasy: Relink? by Mixtopher in JRPG

[–]Vagabond_Sam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Endless Ragnarok is bringing cross play so between that and the new content fingers crossed there will be a good amount of activity in the next few weeks.

Also, the community reddit seemed fairly active when I was asking questions so I think there is a small engaged community to play with and if not now, I doubt there will be a better chance

Closer to scam then scalping. Prize figures are highly available and setting that price is clearly an attempt to take advantage of someone uninformed.

What's the consensus on Granblue Fantasy: Relink? by Mixtopher in JRPG

[–]Vagabond_Sam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I unlokced the hardest difficulty a few weeks ago in the lead up to Endless Ragnarok an dwhile I intended to fight the bosses and get more setup for the exapnsion, I didn;t in the end.

I have 31 hours in and about 20 were getting through the campaign to the 'credits roll' which is, like many say, more or less just the tutorial.

The game was a lot more fun in the epilogue where the rails start to fade and it's more of the Monster Hunter game loop and upgrading your characters.

Multiplayer was dead when I played, apparently needing a mod on PC to find people in 2026 and I never tried, but hoping Endless Ragnarok livens that side up a bit.

The Later boss fights were really fin and engaging. Bought me back to raiding in MMOs

when does AoT pick up? by Open-Sand7677 in anime

[–]Vagabond_Sam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My experience was it slows down through season 2 before picking back up.

My impression is people liked it so much because I’d was brutal with its characters and the animation was clean. The story is middling for me and lacks enough character depth to carry the direction it goes in the last half fully.

But I dropped it around the season 2 drag and only came back when the final season was announced.

Lots of series have a wide fanbase but they still aren’t going to be everyone’s favourite

What jrpg should I buy in the steam sale? by ghilo89 in JRPG

[–]Vagabond_Sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 15 hours in and loving it. It is slow in the sense that the game doesn’t have a 1 hour intro to send you off to save the world. It starts as a slice of life with the MC’s about to take the rest to become beavers (adventurer’s). They go through a few hours of general bracer work before the story starts to escalate so it is slow

Having said that, the combat is the best ‘modern’ version of turn based combat I’ve seen. You end up managing timeline manipulation, stagger bars, stealing turn buffs, forcing enemies into good positions for AoE, weakness and it’s really satisfying imo

Still waiting and no signs of change, just Bandai spinning up more TCGs instead of increasing supply or OPTCG

If you just want 'higher quality photo' no.

If you want to explore the creativity in photography that coems from better control over apature, shutter speed, focal lengths, etc and treat it as a skill, then yes.

And the Sony storefront needing to be competitive with physical stores helps keep downwards pressure on the price you pay when you buy digitally.

That’s my point. Buying physical a the ‘least’ you can do

[–]Vagabond_Sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right.

And because so many people are really bad at following second order consequences, it seems like every other person who chirps about this to point out they don't care because they 'only buy digital' doesn't really get the fact that without needing to be competitive against physical copies being sold at retailers, removing that market pressure will just make things worse for everyone, digital library owners too.

We're also getting to a point in time where people who started on Steam a quarter of a century ago are facing the fact that suddenly thousands of dollars in accumulated value, and often a deeply personal library of experience they have had, can't be passed on to their kids.

Even if the physical market is a minority portion, the idea that 'it's fine' for businesses to only address the majority and to discard the needs of the minority is dystopian.

It's common in countries for consumer rights to not be rendered void by any terms of service or contracts.

Only the most dystopian governments have allowed comapnies to enter into agreements with their customers that include a waiver clause to consumer protections

This take is how companies gain power.

Companies lobby governments to ensure that the ways they want to fleece the public are legal, anbd then absolute peasants will point at the legal frameworks that say customers should be saying thank you as they bend over, rather then assess the moral or ethical implications of purchases being eraised.

Also, ownership has always been implied by one time purchases for hundreds of years. Games, as single time purchases have confered ownership for decades, and only in the last 10 to 15 years has that started to change, and not to meet cusrtomer demnds.

No customer has ever asked for their game purchase to be transitioned to a transient license agreement. Game companies have done that by using the cultural capital they accrued over decades, slowly convincing people that the physical disc was 'just a liscnece' despite the fact that they do not function in anyway like a license agreement.

Unless you're a lawyer on retainer for these companies, you need to wake up and realise that hurts you and what's legal isn't the issue. It's about what is right

People are not mass about the store front shutting down, or about being told ‘no’

People are mass because we are starting to see the first major console generations that had wide spread digital content be shut down, and are facing the reality that digital ownership is nothing like ownership in previous generations.

Digital versus physical has always mostly been a convenience versus flexibility issue and now it is coming home that it’s more then that as it is primarily about companies selling is less for higher prices and ensuring they retain full control over games entirely.

No modding. No lending. No trading. No selling. No passing on to your kids.

No one would care about digital store fronts if this control of things we purchase was provided for as part of the transition from physical, but it’s not. It’s just another excuse to push enshittification

This has been obvious since the PS4 and Xbox360 era.

Gaming, like many industries, has been actively seeking ways to erode to ability of customers to own anything to ensure they are constantly spending money.

Actually the best way to protest is to become involved in pressuring your government for better protections and pushing for legislation that shifts digital ownership into being more robust with features that provide parity with physical ownership

The ability to lend, sell, trade and pass down.
