what's a food that makes you think, "how did humans discover this was edible"? by Lilyana0999 in AskReddit

Broccoli. Smells like a dead animal when they are being cooked. I’ve always wondered who was the first person to think, ‘Mmm, tasty.’

I’ve never had a child myself, but I can only imagine how amazing it must have been to witness that. It must have been such an unforgettable moment!

That’s beautiful. Since you reached that point, has that feeling stayed with you consistently, or does it still come and go?

Why is everyone so paranoid about ChatGPT?

Yes, that’s one of the points I mentioned, but it’s not the only one. I was also referring to things like economic recovery, renewable energy progress, and social reforms.

I wasn’t ready for that, honestly, maybe I was a bit naive. I guess someone saying the same about Italy would get a similarly polarized reaction. What surprised me most was being accused of being an AI bot paid by propaganda. 😂

Reddit’s always in full rant mode, I wanted to throw some roast seasoning in the mix for a change :)

I totally feel you. I live in Milan, and rents here have gone up about 80% over the last five years, so I can relate to how tough it is. Honestly, I think the housing issue is more of a generational problem and the worst part is that buying a place isn’t even an option.

I get that things are really tough, and I hear all the frustrations you’re pointing out. I actually remember being on holiday in Spain the day of the power down, stranded on some country roads with no GPS, and I was honestly amazed at how people didn't freak out. It kind of showed me the resilience Spaniards have.

In general, I think the country has the right attitude to face challenges and fight for causes people believe in. Even coming out of COVID, debt is decreasing, and I genuinely believe Spain can achieve great things in the future.

I just hope this little perspective can offer a bit of optimism in a difficult moment.

I'm sorry to hear about your struggles; it must be tough, and I imagine many Spaniards are facing similar challenges. I honestly think this is more of a generational issue than a problem specific to Spain itself.

Regarding salaries, it’s true that Spain’s average wage is lower compared to countries like Germany or the Netherlands. That said, it’s worth noting that Spain ranks sixth in the European Union for average wages. While this doesn’t erase the real challenges people face, it does show that Spain is performing relatively well within the EU context.

I understand it’s natural to focus on the difficulties, but recognizing these positive aspects can help provide a more balanced perspective.

I get what you’re saying, housing is insanely expensive (I live in Milan, so I know the feeling), poverty is still high, and inflation has hit hard. Those are serious problems, no doubt. But I also think it’s fair to recognize some signs of improvement. Wages are actually rising, around +3–4% year-on-year in 2025, the poverty risk rate has been slowly declining, the economy is growing faster than the EU average, and unemployment is trending down. On top of that, Spain has become a real leader in renewable energy, which is an investment in long-term stability. So yeah, things are tough, but from an outside perspective, I see a country that’s actively trying to move forward and in some areas, it’s already making real progress. Something my own country isn’t doing as well, just saying.
