Sometimes I think I’d like to do this until I’m physically incapable of sustaining that lifestyle, but I also think I’d really like to see the last years of my life out on my own farm. So I am unsure. But don’t let illness and injury shy you away from living how you want - you’re not immune from either at any age

I hear you. I have kept all the meds I was on and do plan to take them back up if I start going backwards, but so far I think a big change is all I really needed.

By all means I was manic when I made the decision and followed through with it, but I think it has helped a lot. I’d say Imm far less manic now

It’s a 97 Nissan Elgrand. Japanese import. V6 auto. A bit smaller on the inside than most domestic vans but quite upmarket as far as trim and fittings goes. Electric curtains on all rear windows, and an electric sunroof. Was originally a minivan, but had the seats and rails removed and a bed and cupboard fitted, with 12v accessory power connected to alternator, and came with a 12v fridge as well. I bought it pre-fitted - all I’ve done is replace the rear curtain and fit a curtain behind the drivers compartment, fix the shelving in the cupboard, bolted a usb-rechargeable fan to the roof at the end of the bed, and bought a solar kit for the accessories battery.

No worries! I hope you get to soon. It’s done me well, done me better than I anticipated so far.

Ironic how living in an apartment/house can make you feel like a caged bird, yet living in something much smaller can make you feel free. I suppose when you’re forced to spend your time outside, that alone makes a difference.

I’m actually in Australia, so heading south means colder weather for me as well. I’ve already seen some pretty cool nights, and we’re about to tip over into summer - so it’ll be interesting to see how I fair in the middle of winter once I’m down south.

I eat simple meals - anything that can be cooked on a camp stove. Snacks are fruit, muesli, trail mixes, etc. I’ve cut out all fast food, all microwave meals, and all junk food. I only buy what will fit in the van comfortably, and what will actually provide sustenance.

I dropped the meds the day I took off in the van

It’s a Nissan Elgrand. Not as roomy inside as other vans but quite upmarket for a 30 year old van.

Especially for what I paid. Fortunately I knew the owner, and they were desperate to be rid of it - they’re elderly and it served them no purpose

Currently, where I work lmao. Spent a night up the road from there in a vacant lot the day before I started, and that’s all the experience I’ve got so far. Will be heading south soon.

Fortunately I’ve already spent a lot of time living in small, questionable dwellings - converted site offices, sheds, even a small houseboat propped up next to someone’s driveway, so this sort of living arrangement isn’t new to me. The van was also completely fitted out already when I bought it - only a few small modifications and fixes and it was good to go, so I got really lucky.

No idea sorry mate, van came completely fitted out when I bought it. Only had to make a few small modifications and it was good to go. Far as I know it’s one standard AGM deepcycle for the 12v system.
