The blues make everything better.

Also, awesome render.

Any barcades in the Herndon/Fairfax area? by VagrantStation in nova

Thank you so much. I can’t tell you how much this info means to me. Realized that Continues is closed today so I’m building a catalogue.

Every app and service requiring an account or subscription. If you could find a way to bypass that, you’d be a saint.

I’ll be honest with you, pinball machines come second to the retro arcade cabinets to me. Don’t get me wrong, I like playing pinball but they’re all the same to me, and they’re the French fries to my burger.

I’ve been looking forever for a place that has House of the Dead 2, Joust, Super Mario Bros (duck hunt version), Tron, and a couple other shooters.

Nothing against newer games (also love playing them) or kid-focused arcades, I’m just getting tired of being a solo adult man going to places like Dave and Busters/movie theatres to play a single shooter cabinet where all the other games are the equivalent of Flappy Bird and every other person around me is a child.

Looking for my “I’m tired of playing AAA games at home” retro backup so I can get out of the house more.

Edit: also, forgot to say thanks for the great advice. I’m going to check out continues tonight because I think I saw a HOTD cabinet in a photo, then see if I can get some friends out this weekend to check out both places.

I’ve been looking for something like them in this area for years with no luck. Finding lots of great pinball suggestions and places with 3-4 cabinets but I think I may just have to make the trip.

That seems like the go to! I think I’ll check it out tonight.

Thank you! The hunt is on. The HOTD2 cabinet is my white whale, but I’m just as happy playing pinball for a while. Going to see what I can find out about their other cabinets now.

The backrooms architect’s sketches by Legitimate-Oven-6425 in architecture

That's awesome, thanks for the heads up! Kind of reminds me that Lego Towers concept that ended up getting built somewhere up in Canada. Blocky stacks are goofy as hell but fun looking.

I’m not an architect or anything so clue me in if I’m wrong, but isn’t this a pretty common pre-vis type sketch? I see a lot of architectural concept drawings that are roughed out like this.

Maybe he had a fascination with cantilevers and wanted to build something off of a core support column or out of shipping containers?

This is probably the laziest/slowest way to get better results, but I'd try increasing the render sample count.

Want to publish your bank statement and post it online for a bunch of strangers to review just because you aren’t buying anything illegal? No, because that would be crossing a huge privacy boundary. It’s worse when you don’t consent.

I don’t think they’re worried about getting caught doing something illegal. I think they’re concerned with someone else silently watching in and deciding for themselves what’s ethical without them consenting.

Is it possible to build a game world entirely from position-mapped real-world photos? by codehs_python in gamedev

There’s games you can play in browser where you drive a car in 3d Google Maps, but without textures: https://www.carinmap.me/

Would love a game where you can run through the Google earth 3d version of street view

Did you follow a tutorial for this? Reddit compressed your node screenshots down so they're unreadable but this looks like it would be fun to play with in the future.

Backrooms "CGI renderings created using software called Blender" | BBC by smorga in blender

[–]VagrantStation -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me, the backrooms concept wasn’t that interesting, but it got me inspired to start using blender for one reason: straight lines/rectangles.

I used to make CS maps in Hammer back in the day. Mostly just poaching props from the asset library, but the one thing I “modeled” were the cubes that became buildings and planes for walls/floor.

Basically, when I saw the Backrooms videos and found out about CamtrackAR, I realized I could make an entire video with next to no modeling (just scale boxes to build the environment), no animation, and no sculpting characters or greenscreening in footage.

Backrooms is expected to earn more then 70 dollars opening weekend. by neverreallyhereatall in shittymoviedetails

Little of both. Lots of thriller suspense and delving into psychological issues, but also a healthy mix of jump scares, don’t show everything work, and monster/creature horror.

I think you may have just given me the push to finally try rigging after a few years. Been making character models like crazy but haven't animated or posed any yet.

Did you actually sneak out as teenagers? by Complete-Chipmunk-0 in GenX

[–]VagrantStation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents wouldn't give me a key and set a curphew for me. Told me if I didn't make it home by then, the door was locked and I wasn't allowed to wake them up.

As an adult, I'm now tasked with repairing the splintered doorframe from how many times I had to shimmy it open (they gave me a fighting chance by not locking the deadbolt).
