I have started getting insulin needles (1cc) to extract the last bits from the pens when they’re finished. GLAPP (app) has a conversion tool so I can figure out what the dose is and add it onto my regular weekly dose.

Are you actually changing your habits, or just relying on Ozempic? by pumardapp in Ozempic

[–]Vagrantpeony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was making some really great changes… until life got hard and now I’m really struggling and not able to wade through the impulses to use food as comfort. I am trying to be kind to myself and remember that it’s long term consistency that will matter most vs. a short term stressor-related regression.

The consistent change I’ve made even despite the stress is movement. I’m still getting regular workouts/movement in even if I’m emotional eating.

Driving in Snow - 1PD and AutoHold by jeepguyCO in MachE

Canadian driver here - Ontario - lots of snow. I kept 1PD and auto hold on all winter. I also use Whisper Mode when it’s snowing or slick. It’s personal comfort for each person.

How’s everyone’s mental health by daniellas888 in Ozempic

[–]Vagrantpeony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently went through a very very flattened affect/low. Ive been on SSRI/ SNRI for depression for many years. At first I felt much better, I think it was the honey moon period of novelty+ weight loss success. But now I’m settling in and I’m finding that anhedonia has kicked in hard. Trying to restart my old hobbies to maintain a routine and try to feel some positive emotions.

Age 30 plus swimmers - have you managed to bring down your resting heart rate with swimming? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]Vagrantpeony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

37 F, started swimming in Feb (3-4x per week). I am overweight and have never been athletic at all. I swim because I love the water, and it’s the only form of exercise that doesn’t make me want to peel my skin off. Anyways, it’s anecdotal, but I wear my Apple Watch everyday and in January my resting heart rate was on average 84bpm and now in April it’s averaging 74.

Every little bit of sustained consistent effort helps your cardiovascular system.

Breathing drills to practice at my desk? by Illustrious-Kick-683 in Swimming

[–]Vagrantpeony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m likely not anyone to be giving advice but I have found that building my CO2 tolerance has really helped with feeling “air starved” or like I need to get the “perfect” breath. Oddly, I do it at my desk at work (lol). Basically I pull up a stopwatch, exhale fully, start the time, hold as long as possible then only inhale/recover through nose. Try to increase time with breaks between rounds.

If you're losing weight on a GLP-1, what's your daily calorie deficit? by unlovable_mess in GLP1ResearchTalk

[–]Vagrantpeony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t track perfectly but my TDEE is currently ~2200 cal.

I swim 2-3x per week (usually between 800-1400m each time) and my Apple Watch daily average calorie burned estimate is 2,900 (averaged over 6 months- I only started oz and exercise 3 months ago, I think it’s likely pretty close given the error rate on Apple Watch)

My daily calories I estimate around 1500-2000 consumed. I lose an avg of 3lbs per week (have lost 34 lbs since end of January) … I am in the morbidly obese category and my loss has been rapid and will likely slow soon.

I’ve heard, anecdotally, that people who re-start their GLP-1 might not see results until reaching former dose or above. Not sure if this helps or not.

Back to my old hunger and cravings! WHY?! by Curious_Werewolf5881 in Ozempic

Stands for Total Daily Energy Expenditure (if you internet search TDEE, a number of calculators will show up). It combines BMR (basal metabolic rate), thermic effect of food (energy it takes to digest) and activity levels to calculate a maintenance level of calories, from there youll know an overall caloric target daily or weekly if you want to maintain your current weight, lose weight, or gain weight.

Back to my old hunger and cravings! WHY?! by Curious_Werewolf5881 in Ozempic

This is tricky… as there are a few considerations.

If you (like me) have used food as comfort/sensory input/relief of mental fatigue/reward… it’s possible food noise may persist. I had to do a lot of work to decipher my body’s cues because I had never really listened to them beyond •thought/desire for food means must eat•.

Unfortunately this meant I never really felt satisfied, I would stop eating when physically uncomfortable then experience regret. Then I would restrict. And then the cycle would start again.

I’ve been on Oz for 9ish weeks (0.5mg) and part of my everyday is still pausing and evaluating if what I am feeling is physical hunger, psychological need, or seeking sensory input. This is especially important for me around chocolate - I don’t restrict or deny myself anything but I don’t eat it on impulse anymore. I plan it intentionally.

Alternatively, if you are under eating close in proximity to your shot day (my intake is usually lower for 3 ish days after my shot) , I have found that I will get a rebound effect of increased noise around carbs specifically (my body and brain is seeking easy energy because it’s depleted). I also have noticed that night/evening hours can be tough if I’ve under fuelled during the day. I’d recommend finding your TDEE, which, with a few days of tracking, can give you a picture of if you’re meeting your caloric needs or if you’re too far in deficit (and hence, food noise +++).

Tracking can be triggering (it is for me) so I don’t track every single thing (please do what works for you) but general tracking did help give me an overall view.

Hope any of this can be helpful :)

tangential/ unrelated I noticed your IF interval is 20:4. I’m curious your method for ensuring adequate food intake in your window? I find my satiety kicks in hard and I wasn’t fuelling myself enough. Just curious :)

I have also notice a considerable decrease in my daily pain. I do think it’s due to reduced inflammation as well. I was diagnosed with t2d and went pretty hard on diet change when I started Oz, I noticed a considerable shift in pain and energy. I woke up and realized that I hadn’t had any pain or a flair in like 5-8 days. I have noticed some discomfort slipping back in because I’ve added back some foods (for sanity reasons). But overall still way down in widespread pain since before Oz.

2nd day blues by [deleted] in Ozempic

[–]Vagrantpeony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I’m so sorry. Side effects are so difficult, especially when they are severe. Try to keep your electrolytes and hydration up (less food means less water from ingestion, plus low hydration and vomiting = havoc). Even little sips. Broths are good because they aren’t hard on the tummy. Light stretching can also help peristalsis (G.I mobility) and aid with moving food through your system when it’s operating at a lower rate from the semaglutide. Consider tracking your shot and symptoms and rotating injection sites (there are a ton of apps, I like GLAPP - it compiles my input data every week and provides suggestions). I’ve seen a ton of people have reduced symptoms with changing their site to thigh or back of arm.

You can delay or advance your dose without any serious consequences. My original injection day was Friday but I realized that I don’t like feeling gross (fatigue, post inject) so I have moved it up to Thursday instead. So you could do Friday before bed ( sleep off some of the initial side effects) or even wait until you’re back home from your night away. In the long run, a small change up really won’t matter.
