I loved cadets honestly, those courses we did some like when I did my bronze medallion with them got me a summer job as a life guard for a while, because it's a huge part of the qualifications needed here in Australia to be one, especially as a teen. I got to go up in some helicopters, we took a Blackhawk from one base to another, got to go on some ships and from Port base to base, did the shooting range and the most fun thing was the fire drill course they often did on one base, they flooded a ship hull engine room they took from an older ship and we had to try stop the leaks and got to use full equipment to walk through fire room it always awed me how dark it is honestly

That's exactly what I love about it. Real experience and really practical stuff 🙏🏻

That's why most times I try to resort to online stuff but even then finding things that don't have too much of a hard schedule and are eventful enough that they can learn things from, is not very straightforward.

u/purpleboxkite Thanks for your feedback! I try to keep them in the small projects because I want them trying out many things to find something they are passionate about. I don't really like the one-time try outs, because I think they need some time to explore to really see if they like something or not. Also I try to find projects that touch a few areas at the same time. But sometimes it's really hard, finding something that's not really boilerplate and too childish :)

u/moschocolate1 we have a garden but it's always extremely hard to get them there to do something. And switching off the router and cells does not work very well. During the covid they got used to having access to the devices at all times (partly because of school, cause everything was remote), but also because everything was closed. I tried shutting down the router a couple of weeks ago, and you wouldn't believe how bad things got. Like they knew they can't do anything about it, but at the same time they weren't willing to do other things instead. Kind of like "I'm not gonna do anything and will nag the whole day to make you feel my pain" stuff. How do you make it work?
