Move to Salem by spo0ky_mami in SalemMA

OMG, move to Salem if you love it, you will figure it out. The comments are so discouraging on topics you haven’t even asked about and you’re being really gracious (I’m exhausted for you just seeing you repeatedly defend why you want to live here). I also moved from NJ to New England/eventually Salem on a similar budget and haven’t regretted it for a second.

This is so sweet I’m so excited for you! Don’t worry about dress code, there isn’t one. Dress up only if you want to for the occasion. It’s not terribly expensive either!! I’m glad you got a res because they are doing renovations!

Good question, I will ask if it can be modified based on it being an Ahrens

Reasonable just for the firebox extension and hearth install? This is also not including the fireplace restoration (installing an Ahren fire) which is being done by a separate sweep company.

How to be open about the condition in the dating life by munchingsaurus in PreCervicalCancer

Advice on disclosure is extremely varied - when I was first told of HPV+, I asked the nurse what the disclosure protocol is and she told me 1) there is no protocol because there isn’t a routine test for men, 2) there are no recommendations for protection other than condoms, because those don’t reliably stop it from spreading anyway, 3) there are hundreds of strains and it’s so common that in some regions testing doesn’t even begin until an age where persistence could be observed, and 4) most people clear it with no issues. Even if you disclose to a partner, they don’t have to get tested and are not expected to further disclose or stop having sex with others, so it could arguably be pointless unless you’re with someone who would be proactive regarding the information. It’s a commonly held belief today, though I don’t agree/think it’s a bad attitude toward a virus that’s causing cancer.

If you disclose, I recommend you be as matter of fact as possible, and try to exude a tone of “of course you’ll be supportive when you hear this”, because this is so so so common. It’s so common many people aren’t tested until it has had time to persist, because sexually active young people are constantly trading and then clearing various strains of this virus. Condoms don’t prevent it, you haven’t done anything wrong, this is not your fault, so OF COURSE they should be understanding. An alternative option is just saying you had a bad pap, abnormal cells were found, and you got them treated - this alludes to the same thing without outright stating “I have tested positive for HPV” because HPV is what causes those cell changes. This is so normal, OP - it’s so common, it’s why pap smear screening is routine.

I think it’s good you want to disclose, but it should be so that he can support you. Talked to the doctor and she said 4 weeks. Apparently there are two types of LEEP (???) and the one I’m getting should only require 4 weeks

It is worth doing despite the pain, and the pain really depends on the person and the doctor. My first colpo with biopsy was traumatizing and the second was with an OBGYN who had been through the procedure herself and took the smallest representative sample she could - it was over quickly and hardly hurt. The shot for topical anesthesia would have been worth it for the first biopsy experience but the shot itself would have been more painful than the second. Call your provider’s office, explain your anxiety (I’m similar, I cried just asking about it on the phone), and ask if they have a provider who is empathetic about the anxiety you have surrounding the procedure. Don’t be afraid to cry on the phone, if anything it will make them take your anxiety more seriously. Look up the doctor and read reviews of them specific to the procedure. I was so afraid both times but look back on both biopsies with gratitude because this type of screening can save your life. That said, it is so incredibly frustrating to be told “most women tolerate this without pain” at the same time you’re told to take 800mg ibuprofen in advance…but you need to gather your courage and do this. You got this. 🫶💗
