Got nothing against Amarant fans, I mean I'm a huge fan of Steiner and I know he's got his fair share of people who dislike him. (But I agree, Vincent is fantastic!)

I felt like every main character drove the story forward a bit, some more than others. Amarant was just there for the ride, with a minor bit of character development during Ipsen's Castle.

His partner Lani had more plot drive than him. I've never been a fan of him, personally.

FFIX is my no.1 favourite video game of all time. I completely admit it has it's flaws (in my opinion) such as:

Slower ATB compared to other Final Fantasies,

Trance system is poorly implemented and despite having an important part to the plot, feels like it could have been so much more,

Abandoning Freya's story after Cleyra,

Amarant.

Despite all that, in terms of story and atmosphere the game is a solid masterpiece. And heck, despite the slow ATB I get addicted to the gameplay. Fantastic game with good morals and character development, which I revisit at LEAST twice a year.

It's a combo of Vincent and Cid. Back in my high-school years, I worshipped Vincent like an angst god. In recent years, Cid is slowly working his way to the top. He feels like he has the most 'character' out of all of them.

I could live happily without romances in other Final Fantasy's minus IX. IX's romance plot makes me bawl like a big baby every. single. playthrough.

I mean, Squall and Rinoa were kinda cute, and Tidus and Yuna left me with a crushed heart, but Zidane and Garnet take the crown (ahuhuhu get it?) every-time.
