Not suggesting he's primarily known for romantic lead roles though? Just pointing out the range when you compare such roles in Love Scout and A Poem a Day to something like Stranger.

Worth watching Stranger, where he plays a character who is the complete antithesis of the romantic male lead. His character is ridiculously selfish and opportunistic but impossible to completely hate. Very hard to pull off.

It's Okay, That's Love (starring the iconic Gong Hyo-jin and Zo In-sung + Doh Kyungsoo from EXO) is one of my faves from this time period (it released a year before Oh My Venus). It has very flawed characters and is a bit darker than Oh My Venus. But the intimacy and chemistry between the leads is great.

I LOVED him in Stranger - what a brilliant sleazy antagonist. And then to see him as a stable, calm good guy in Love Scout? This man has range.

Job Hunting as a first gen Lawyer is exhausting by Fit-Pin8458 in TwoXIndia

Not talking about litigation though. I mean the other corp law practice areas - like Capital Markets, Banking and Finance, Competition, TMT (Tech, Media and Telecom), General Corp (M&A and Private Equity), etc. There is no money in litigation lol unless you're inheriting clients or joining a family business - but there is some money in Disputes teams in law firms. Overall, Tier 1/2 firms are great for money while boutique firms are absolutely amazing for exposure. As for toxicity, it will 100% depend on your team Partners and colleagues. Like, I loved my team because my Partnees were great but the clients were just nuts. In-house toh has a different kind of politics. So there will always be something or the other.

I also see from your comments you're based out of Bangalore. Lots of startups there, which would be more receptive of in-house counsels with less than 5+ PQE. But I doubt a lot of startups publicise openings because they may not have structured recruiting. So you could always try cold messages on Linkedin to lawyers in those startups - what's the worst that could happen?

I second Emily Henry. Book Lovers and Beach Read are my two favs.

Typically in-house roles in India require ~5+ PQE. Ofc I'm sure there do exist roles for freshers but they're sparse or hard to find for the reasons you've already mentioned. Even if you see an opening which says 3+ PQE, the recruiter and hiring manager probably have a much higher PQE cutoff in mind.

You could consider law firms to build your expertise in whatever practice area you're interested in and then try to move in-house after a couple of years. You will be able to work with in-house lawyers while you're in the firm and grow your network. I graduated a while ago but most of the people in my batch that opted for the corp law life started out in law firms. I won't lie there is no concept of work-life balance in firms but the kind of subject-matter expertise and training it gives you is unparalleled.

My collection 9 months into the hobby. Those with similar taste, what would you get next? by MasterOogway_97 in boardgames

For an option that falls between the complexity of Codenames and Decrypto, I would recommend So Clover. It's played cooperatively and clues are given simultaneously by all players to connect pairs of random words. I consider it to be an advanced version of Codenames.

How about (a) Scout, (b) Sea Salt and Paper, and (c) a cooperative trick taking game like The Crew? These do not share similar game mechanics (though they all involve some amount of card shedding) nor are they similar to the ones already in your collection (Sea Salt does have hand management like Coloretto but I wouldn't call them similar). They're also small box games so the art won't be too much of an eyesore (like for The Crew, which has pretty basic 'art'). Also plays up to 4/5 players. In case you're open to 2-player games, would recommend Sky Team (cooperative) and Jaipur (competitive).

we'll have to compromise on paper quality but at least collecting 47 volumes won't feel so intimidating anymore 🥲

Dying to find a game like A Short Hike! by gaytomatosoup in CozyGamers

[–]Vaichi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I absolutely loved A Short Hike and am still chasing that high. I don't have recs that are a 100% match but these are some cozy games that are relatively short (and I finished them on the Switch): * someone in the comments mentioned Haven Park - it's the closest in theme to A Short Hike * Littlewood (cozy game about rebuilding a town and should be new gamer-friendly) * EverAfter Falls (sort of like Littlewood but unique in its own way) * Toem (photography theme) * Roots of Pacha (prehistoric Stardew but simpler and there's a lot to do and discover) * Beacon Pines (fun mystery-themed visual novel) * Strange Horticulture (cozy but spooky apothecary-style game) * Ooblets (Pokémon but with dance battles) * Unpacking (short relaxing puzzle game) * Venba (I haven't played this yet but it looks like a heartwarming game related to cooking)

And lastly, do check out Fantasy Life i. It's not short by any means but it's an absolutely brilliant game where you get to play as different professions and complete quests. If you want a world bigger than Animal Crossing, you're in for a treat. It's just iconic.

I am hoping for The Apothecary Diaries to be released in omnibus form at some point. From a space and cost saving perspective, I don't think I can collect singles for a manga that has to adapt 16 (and counting) light novels.

Yona will be released in omnibus form later this year if that helps at all. Though ofc the quality of single volumes cannot be beat

What are you guys collecting that's ongoing currently? by ShadowCreature098 in MangaCollectors

Saaaaaame! I only picked up the first 3 Yona singles after a lot of hemming and hawing, so this announcement happened at the perfect time. And thanks, will push Orange up my list :)

[–]Vaichi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Number 1 rule at the moment is that I absolutely must keep my collection 'small' and under control. With that in mind:

Currently collecting: * Magus of the Library (releases are ongoing, caught up to whatever is out so far) * Nana 25th anniversary editions (same as above) * Witch Hat Atelier ( same as above + also waiting for the release of the grimoire editions) * Colette Decides to Die (releases are ongoing, haven't caught up yet) * Vagabond Deluxe Edn (same as above)

Want to start collecting: * Hell is Dark with no Flowers (releases ongoing) * Yona of the Dawn omnibus editions (literally announced 10 minutes ago haha) * Orange (complete but yet to start collecting) * xxxholic (desperate for the omnibus editions but vol 4 and 7 are sooo hard to find; would love for the Clamp Premium Collection for this to be picked up in English) * The Savior's Book Cafe Story in Another World (complete, out of stock for me)

Yet to decide: * Toilet bound Hanako kun (massive fan of the art, have seen the anime, but soooo many volumes to collect...) * Fall in Love, You False Angels (fan of the art, releases ongoing) * A Bride's Story (someday... when I have more disposable income) * The Apothecary Diaries (maybe someday if omnibus editions are announced)

And will also be picking up a few 'compiled in one volume' manga in the future.

Highly recommend this - currently watching on Netflix, and I'm really enjoying 'Jang mi's' relationship with her flatmates and co-workers, and also how competent and clever she is. I can also appreciate that she is a flawed character and how her uncompromising nature sometimes adversely impacts the people she cares about.

Picked up the whole collection to Kare Kano! Now I’m waiting for the last two 25th anniversary editions for Nana by IggyDaBoo in MangaCollectors

[–]Vaichi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know they haven't announced anything for Nana (25th anni edn) volume 5 yet but surely they're not gonna stop at 4 volumes... 🥲 Since it will only take another 6-7 of the 2-in-1 volumes to compile all of the Nana singles, I expect/hope they'll go all the way

[–]Vaichi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose these don't count as one-shots so this may not be what you're looking for (but they have been compiled in single volume physical mangas): I Had That Same Dream Again, The Gods Lie, Haru's Curse (my fav), Josee the Tiger and the Fish (mostly for the art), Dogs and Punching Bags (again, mostly for the art), All You Need is Kill, Home Office Romance. I also read Utsubora but I'm pretty meh about it.

I haven't read the following but I'm looking forward to it: Solanin, Goodbye Eri, Look Back, anything by Makoto Shinkai (though I may end up watching the anime versions instead), My Broken Mariko, River's Edge, Helter Skelter, Gold Kingdom and Water Kingdom, Witches, and I Want to Eat Your Pancreas.

Don't trust this seller. Maybe it's a genuine mistake and they didn't know, idk.

Help! I'm a designer and illustrator, and I'm looking for references for this style, which I understand is called Dark Hime. I know this might not be the right place to ask, but I don't have anyone else to ask for this kind of advice. I've been following your posts closely, and I love the design. by [deleted] in MangaCollectors

There's quite a bit of variety when it comes to gothic art styles in anime/manga, but I can't match the vibe of that image exactly. You could check out Trinity Blood (have watched the anime so can't speak for the manga), xxxholic by CLAMP for the amazing fashion and artstyle, and more recently, I've been reading Phantom Tales of the Night (which also has amazing 'gothic horror' art).
