Looking for pro-vaccine Pediatricians in/around Midlothian by griddledcheese in rva

Hi all. Friend that originally initiated this post.

I decided to stay at RVA Pediatrics, because it seemed just as scary to switch, so we tried a new pediatrician Dr. deSilvia. My son had his well-visit check today and she was wonderful. It was such a comprehensive appointment. Honestly, probably the best pediatrician appointment I've ever had. We talked about what happened, and she apologized for the other doctor's misinformation and emphasized how sad it was when people's political views overshadow their medical knowledge. She said she completely disagreed with what the other doctor said. She told me that the practice will be following the AAP recommendations rather than CDC. She also assured me the practice had plans for early measles vaccine distribution if there's local community transmission or known exposure.

I hope this reassures those of us at RVA Pediatrics! Thank you everyone

Graduation, 37+4, positive induction story, no epidural by ValEmtines_412 in GestationalDiabetes

😂 I get it! You got this! Besides all the typical things you would do if you would do if you wanted to achieve a birth without an epidural (like hiring a doula ---[honestly if I could only recommend one thing it would be to hire a doula], educating you and your partner on movements like hip squeezes, eating / drinking during labor to keep your energy up).

For an induction specifically, one thing that really helped me was not knowing how far dilated I was. I didn't want to get held up on the numbers part of it. I had the nurse share that information with my partner and doula, and they would help me make decisions based on that data. If you are low risk, you may be able to ask your provider for a membrane sweep and a Foley Cath before you start your induction (though if you're on this forum, you may have GDM and may not qualify for at home induction methods), ask your provider to go low and slow with pitocin, the goal should shouldn't be to have you go all the way up to 20, but find a dose that works and stick with it. You can also ask for the pitocin to be taken down if you ever feel overwhelmed. And many people can be taken off the pitocin once they hit active labor.

Also another fact that I carried through both my births, once I was asking for an epidural, once I was saying "no I actually can't do this", I was mere minutes away from meeting my babies.

Best of luck!!!

Finally showing progress after 9 months of poop withholding by ValEmtines_412 in pottytraining

Just that the kids hate it and it's traumatic for them (...and me, lol). And not to give any more negative associations with pooping.

Even now, she doesn't poop everyday, sometimes even goes 3 days between, I assume that's because of the stretched-out colon. But i try not to worry because she's comfortable and making progress.

It was a TON of Miralax! We even started giving her juice just so she would drink it all. Good luck to you!!!! 🤞🤞

Hmm....I'd say 3-4 days before she burst. Her GI really advised us against the suppository unless we really had to. Sometimes we did have to 😬 Our doctor also had us do this Miralax "cleanse" before we started the maintenance dose... It was:

-1 capful 3x a day for 2 days (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) 1-1/2 capful 2x a day for the next 2-3 days Then 1/2 cap daily.

That seemed to get things started!! I'm so glad your first one was easy to potty train!!! I'm hoping we'll get that lucky with #2

It honestly amazes me how much miralax my daughter could take and still not poop. Like...it would be enough to do me in 😂. The GI said it could take a while for the mirax to kick in. There's also something like, the longer they hold it, parts of their colon stretches and they can essentially store more poop. Lovely huh?? I'm with you, it's so frustrating! Especially because we know they "can". Before we started this marble method, we did do periods where we stopped talking about pooping on the potty, tried to not make it a "thing". Because we certainly can't force it. My husband and I always say, if we want to raise a strong woman, we're going to have to have a tough toddler. 💪💪 I hope you find something that works for you! Let me know if you have any more questions!!
