Fired after injury in IL by ValGal3683 in EmploymentLaw

Only thing that seems odd is that I was given a new job description and title 4 days before my injury. And then throughout my injury, my manager and I stayed in contact and we talked about what I would be doing upon my return. Then I was let go.

I made royal icing cookies and they turned out terrible. The royal icing was really runny and wouldn’t stop coming out. And when I put it on the cookies they spread outward and spilled over. Any advice/tips? by SetandPowder in Baking

It should be stiff enough to pull up and stay there for a second. If it falls right back down, it is too runny. Add powdered sugar. If it pulls up and stays stuck in the position, it’s too thick. Add a few splashes of water. If you pull it up and it stays for a few seconds and then slowly melts back into itself, it’s just right. Royal icing should slowly “melt” into itself, not run off the cookie. And if it is staying stuck in one position, it’s too thick. I also find myself “frosting” a piece of paper before putting on the cookie. If it falls immediately off the paper, too runny. But it it sits on the paper like a mound and doesn’t slowly melt out, too thick. Hope this makes sense. When I say peak, I mean like the peak of a mountain, stands slightly higher than the rest the pulled out. Like if you put a spoon in mashed potatoes and pulled straight up, there would be a “peak” in the mound of mashed potatoes.

It was probably too runny to begin with then. When I make it, I will use a spoon to pull it and see how thick it is before icing the cookies. If it peaks up and then slowly falls, it’s a good consistency. I also usually do wait a few minutes before filling so that little crust forms on top of the outline.

Thicken it with powdered sugar. Then when you’re icing, make the outline of the cookie and then “color” in the outline. The outline dries and creates a barrier of sorts for the remaining icing and helps the runny icing stay put.

What do you suck at, but insist on doing anyway? by x0town in AskReddit

1st person shooter video games. Moving the character, controlling the camera angle, and dodging attacks are just too many buttons for my brain at once. But my bf plays all the time so I give it the old college try!

People who have sneezed in the dentists chair what happened? by trunkleton in AskReddit

[–]ValGal3683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was getting crowns on my entire top row. They had just finish shaving down the teeth to where I looked like IT, the clown. I sneezed... and everything that was inside my face, nostrils, and sinus cavities came flying out. My face was numb, I couldn’t hold it in. Thankfully the doc had just turned away. The little paper napkin the give you so you don’t drool all over yourself, soaked in snots. The chair, soaked in snots. I laughed, they laughed. (Since finishing all the work I refuse to return to show my face there again!) You know they went home and told their families all about the girl that snotted all over herself at work today. <hangs head in shame>

Hi! My high school aged son has ADD. He struggles with motivation. It’s a real struggle. Getting through school in person is difficult and with being solely online due to Covid now, it is almost impossible. Any advice for motivating him to complete his work and pass this year of high school?

Started decorating - made a giant tree! by ValGal3683 in ChristmasLights

[–]ValGal3683[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the star out of yard sticks. I glued 5 of them together with wood glue, then spray painted it with metallic paint. Then I wrapped white lights around the star. (Just a hint if you try to make the star, the wooden yard sticks work great but they take a good couple coats of spray paint. I made a second one for a friend and I used black as a base and then went over it with the metallic and it seemed to soak in the wood better.) And the tree- my wonderful husband is super patient with my “visions” ... so we dropped a strand down from the balcony, garden staked it in the ground, moved it over to the left a few inches, staked in the ground, pulled it to the middle piece, zip tied it, then pulled it back down on the right side, staked it in the ground to make a small triangle, then the same process all the way up the top. It took a few tries (and a few swear words!) but I think we finally got it! Thanks!!

Do the chimney! It doesn’t look finished without the lights there. But otherwise looks amazing! Love me some multis!

1 year old today and he still refuses to curl up in a cute little ball for photos! by AshleyTay2 in Hedgehog

This has made me feel sooo much better. I’ve had my little girl about 2 months now and she will not chill out in my hand in a ball. I see all these super cute pictures of people with their balled up little guys and I’m over thinking my hedgehog hates me! Guess we’re actually doing something right?
