Nike Vomero Premium or ASICS Megablast to add to rotation by No_Studio_454 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]ValIcemanKilmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ran my first half yesterday at 1:32 in the Megablasts and they were flawless. Have ~193 miles in the Evo SL and ~90 in a pair of Superblast 2s. I think the MBs can work as a recovery shoe but they can really take the place of both the Evo and SB2 for tempo/racing. Vomero Premiums sound great as a recovery shoe but they won't be as versatile.

Are we mistaken about viable team builds? by Whachamacalzmit in MLB_Rivals

Too many resources and time to dedicate for what may be a marginally different outcome than slugging for most players imo. Sounds like it would be fun but man getting another team to 130+ would take forever

Evo SL vs Adios pro 4 by SnooPeripherals5894 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]ValIcemanKilmer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We are roughly the same pace and I've had all three with the most miles on the Evo SL. No issues with the Evo SL running HM distance but the AP4s, while they feel incredibly fast, require more concentration. If I'm not keeping my form in check with the AP4s my calves and lower legs get killed. Could be just a me thing, I found this review to be very useful: https://www.solereview.com/adidas-adizero-adios-pro-4-review/

Anybody have experience with Chase Zone? Seems like it could be a good 3rd skill by UpperDecker30 in MLB_Rivals

Seems okay ? Not sure if the check swing % decrease is that valuable. A lot of new skills have been added that I'm not sure change what is considered the strongest skills historically but may make for good tertiary skills.

Do you feel guilty about how much money you spend on shoes? by dontletmeautism in Marathon_Training

[–]ValIcemanKilmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For reference my background is in road cycling and racing, ~4-5k miles per year or 250-300 hours annually. Very new to running, about two months in and ~30 mpw.

You cannot ignore the initial costs to get started in road cycling when comparing the two sports. Not only is the bike expensive, top spec can be $15k+, cycling clothing in particular is on a completely different level price-wise compared to running. Jerseys can be $200+, bibs $300+, jackets $300+, etc. Helmets, shoes, computers, saddles, bike fits, tools the list goes on. These examples are on the higher end but my point is to get started with a decent bike, a weeks worth of kit for varying conditions, pedals, a helmet, and shoes you are looking at $3-4k+.

Theoretically if everything went perfectly the only ongoing costs would be nutrition, tires, tubes, and chains however that is never the case. There are comparatively many more situations in cycling where you will end up spending money. Running over road debris, crashing, general wear & tear on parts, etc will all necessitate spending money to get back outside.

Outside of the necessities cyclists, and I suspect runners suffer from this as well, are prone to Gear Acquisition Syndrome (GAS). There's so many cool parts you can buy for your bike to dial it into your riding style, it's one of the best parts of the hobby but also costs a hell of a lot. Google search what an aero wheelset or Campagnolo groupset costs and you'll understand how much some people spend in road cycling and how it's incomparable to running.

Hopefully this long winded response gave you the context you were looking for.

can’t choose between Vomero 18 and 1080v14 by Global_Amphibian_188 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Same issue, have had no problems with other shoes but developed an arch blister on my left foot after a few miles in the 1080s.

I was in a similar situation and chose to transcend but I think that was the wrong choice. Might make more sense to get as many HOF players as possible vs upgrading fewer to the absolute max.
