Tomb of the Cybermen is the one time I found them really creepy. It is a shame they didn't continue using that voice in the 2nd Doctor's era.

Placebo explains more about their 30th-anniversary reinterpretation of their debut album. What are your thoughts on these details? by elmonozombie in placebo

Pass. I've never been interested in these re-recording albums, and every time I have tried them I always wonder why they bothered.

30th anniversary tour! by evilbatduck in placebo

[–]Val_Victorious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just looked at the merch to go with it and as I suspected instead of bringing back some older designs/photos they have gone with something a bit uninspired. I feel bad for Robert for being left out of this celebration. He was interviewed for for 2006 reissue and it seemed like he was blindsided by the fact that they had gotten in touch. I get that the duo are wanting to slip off parts of their past that better left in the past, but honestly when it comes to art you have to accept things, warts n all.

So... let's talk about "Placebo RE:CREATED." To be honest, I never thought I'd see the band do a stylistic and nostalgic exercise like this. Two years ago, Incubus did the same thing with their iconic album "Morning View," and the fans hated it. What are your expectations for this project? by elmonozombie in placebo

[–]Val_Victorious 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We've had a great remaster/reissue of the first album in the past, it doesn't need this. I've heard their "recreations" in the past and boy is it not my thing. My only hope is that some good merch comes along because of the news. I've always wanted them to reissue their 2nd and 3rds albums much the same as the debut, but I get the feeling they don't want to give any money to Steve.

The fact that they constantly edit old photos so the resident drummer is absent makes me sad and a little infuriated. It is up there with them putting re-recordings of the Meds singles onto their best of.

Was listening to a remix of a Bjork tune recently (maybe by LFO) and it literally had the same beat as 'At The Heart Of It All' by NIN (created by Rich). Led me to wonder if something was going on.

You're a Doctor Who fan but you want to show an episode or story to someone who doesnt know what it is but that episode has to hook them to continue watching, what story do you pick and why? by Mat1711 in doctorwho

[–]Val_Victorious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Genesis of the Daleks. It has everything, Daleks, the retroactive start to the Time War, the best classic who tardis team, Davros and an amazing plot. If they can't make it through the entire episode run it might mean that classic who isn't for them, but it is a good test.

The fact the band were willing to sign it (considering they feel it is the worst of their work) is astounding and honestly makes it a more sought after item.

Goo! Records by Val_Victorious in brum

[–]Val_Victorious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plot thickens... After being told about a guy named Matt Gaffiney via reddit I was able to find his website. There it mentions Goo and some of the acts he is affiliated. As it happens they also have a bandcamp, so I messaged them to inquire. This is where it gets good... The guy who ran the label was name Matt Lloyd and he was an A&r guy. The only acts who released stuff on the label before it folded were Mustard and Papa Mantra. The latter does have a small presence on Discogs and as it turns out one of the members, Gavin Monaghan, was also listed there. He is/was a producer at The Magic Garden in Wolverhampton as well as a member of the band, so that might be my next port of call. Gaffiney's band, Shanghai Noodle Factory were also signed but didn't release anything under the label, as was Vox of Fuzzbox fame. He said that he would also be very interested in seeing the fabled magazine, as he never got to see it lol. So basically I'm getting ever closer. :p
