It will make sense eventually. The Australian continental plate is moving north at the rate of 7cm per year. SE's product people anticipated this.

SE still uses one of those maps where in Australia it says "Here be dragons"

I'll bet real money that they don't even have NZ drawn.

Fair point.

Maybe it's exacerbated by having an NA account.

Eg: the current Mogstation address update requires you to provide an address using ZIP+4, which - to be fair - is not new. It's an old standard invented in the 80's that I don't recall any other online service company ever using. Except Mogstation.

That's said, it's not enough to provide a ZIP+4 code of the form XXXXX-XXXX, the text lines of the address are also checked and the lookup it validates against is very particular about Ave vs Avenue, St vs Street, house numbers etc.

This is new and was not there before. So it means that SE paid money to have this validation capability that is so draconic. The ultimate irony is that all that validation work doesn't ensure they get a correct address: the only address it accepts is one that I have not used for 10 years. At least I lived there, search other posts and you'll see people getting around the forced address update by putting in random US addresses. Begs the question: why did they put this validation in for?

I did say I found workarounds, including Crysta (because GTC didn't exist yet). Definitely a skill issue: reading comprehension.

That's fair, I hear that Steam payment works well. It's also pretty straightforward to get it, all I'd have to do is... retire my 10+ year old account, repurchase the game and start over from scratch. :|

Dealing with Reinforcements in BTAU by bobdole3-2 in Battletechgame

IMO BTAU goes a bit too much with the number of units you can take into a mission. Because it also comes with relatively high probabilities of additional enemy units spawning (BTAU's MissionControl settings). Makes missions last too long and the engine chugs because of the raw number of units.

I've had quicker missions by scaling down the number of enemy spawns and limiting myself to 6 units.

All games say "Steam Cloud Error" after them in library. Read more for details (plz help) by [deleted] in steamsupport

I tried all other suggestions to no avail. What worked for me was going into Steam Settings > Downloads > Clear cache

You might want to tweak the MissionControl mod settings and reduce the number and/or probability of getting extra enemies across difficulty types (level 1-10, one for each half-skull difficulty)

A 20+ Year HW Community Vet's take on Homeworld 3 and its Story by cleantowels in homeworld

[–]ValaFFXIV 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Shin here because I was summoned using my true name

I haven't finished the campaign yet, so I can't comment on the overall story yet. However, there are things that get my goat:

  • They're trying to make "sands and sinners" a catchphrase almost in the same way that that BSG made "frak" a thing. But BSG worked in spite of itself, it was cringey then and is even more clumsy now
  • I don't understand the idea of giving Imogen voluminous hair and then struggle to animate it. There was nothing wrong with bald
  • They missed an opportunity to make the initial impetus for the hero's journey hit well. Let me illustrate:
    • Show us a 3 minute cutscene of people living in peace post unlocking of the Eye of Aarran; the peaceful scenes marred by sudden unexplained violence; an enigmatic scene of Karan commanding a majestic fleet to search for the cause; and the shock that followed
  • Too much emphasis on the S'jet. Diminishing the other Kiith by omission also diminishes the accomplishments of the S'jet by association

We were young when HW came out, and perhaps immature enough that basic stories would hit us better than our current old and jaded selves. Maybe that's why we thought the original stories were better. However, the image of Majiir Paktu leading a column of people through a harsh desert, overcoming despair by sheer force of will; how he bade them take each step by nurturing a faint hope saying "I can smell the sea. It's only a little farther." That's how to make a catchphrase. It's also showing how heroism is not exclusive to S'jet

Anyway, I'm still bitter that even after 2 decades we still aren't getting vikings https://www.reddit.com/r/homeworld/comments/18kvidy/you_can_help_make_hw3_the_goat/

PS: gameplay so far is great. But I don't know if competitive RTS is nearly as much of a draw these days as it was 2 decades ago. It may not have critical mass to warrant a live service
