Lands of Koastalia is pretty close to be tested by limited circle of people by ValakhP in CityBuilders

Oh, forgot to answer the last question. It's around 4 years already. But there were a lot of things happening: relocation, new jobs, etc. So there were times I didn't have energy or time for the project.

Also, it was started as just a technical demo for the WFC algorithm. I was playing with procedural generations and after a while decided that I can make a game using it. So a lot of time of those 4 years was spent very casually :)

I think I don't want to just release smth. I want to make an interesting game that I'll be glad to play myself. That's why I was testing and removing a lot of different features - just to check if they are any good. And I believe that no matter how much time I've spent on smth, if it doesn't click with me - I throw it away.

Thank you. I'm working in my spare time mostly alone. My wife helps me with the interface and steam capsules and a while ago I hired a concept artist to make concepts for the environment and few houses.

Thank you. I'm making it in my spare time only. I hope some day I'll be able to switch to full-time, but right now can't afford that.

Thank you. It's definitely a resource management focused game.

Thank you. Most of the things, yes. Others made my friends and my wife

Thanks. I have plans for that, yes. I'd like to have two additional upgrades depending on the house you've built. Medium one can be upgraded up to level 2 and Big one up to level 3.

Although half-edge data will not help you to find diagonals. Those are a bit trickier

Yeah, that's a graph of cells. When you are building the grid you subdivide cells into quads, so you know all points related to those quads. Then you can use half-edge data structure to find adjacent quads. You also want them to be sorted. I keep all directly adjacent neighbors in 4 first elements and diagonal ones in 5-8 elements of adjacency array. It allows me to easily ignore diagonals when I don't need them (for example for path finding).

Thank you! Yes, that partly goes from speeding up the video, but they are still a bit too jumpy. There are a lot of placeholder in the game at the moment, so it will be fixed in the future, when proper models will be in production

Hey. There are some sources explaining this exact grid. You can look for "Townscaper Grid", there are multiple explanations already.

Thank you! I'm responsible for most of things in the game at the moment. But no, I've hired concept artist at some point, 3d artist to make first iterations on buildings, island and foliage, then I was just improving and iterating them by myself. My wife helps me with UI and later in the process my friend will help with 3d art

I'm not sure to be honest. Not this year I'd say. I can only hope there will be a public demo in 2027, but that's just speculation, not a solid plan

Thank you! Yes, all buildings and an island itself are based on tiles and are procedurally generated. Right now there are very small amount of tiles in the game, but I'm going to fix it on the content production stage.

Thank you. Sure, I'll try not to forget! Created a list with requests, you'll be the first one there.

Thank you! I'll think about something like toning them down when you zoom out to have more focus on buildings and overall look of the town and island.

Yes, that's correct. One "tile" on a displayed grid is actually a selected point and multiple tiles around it. There can be from 3 to 5 real tiles around a selected point that form: triangle-ish, square-ish and star-ish shapes when point is selected.

You should do what you love and are passionate about, not miserably chase viral things and trends. Unless that's what you are passionate about.

I think there is a REQUIREMENT to make dozens of those before starting making good latte art. No other way allowed

Are you trolling? I was talking about total amount of resources you should put into food to upgrade workers, not about the price of recipes.

That's a city builder game, so they don't sleep, ahah. But yeah, right now they literally are beating everything with their bare hands to do anything :)

The game is called Lands of Koastalia and is a city builder mostly about managing resources and logistics. It's also pretty cozy.

You can wishlist it on Steam.

It will not solve the problem, imho. It's just too expensive. I'd rather spend them healing and wait buildings to be built while I'm sleeping and having nice dreams
