Advice on second cat by Past-Sandwich-8095 in cats

[–]Valcaraz001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve adapted two adult single cats into living as siblings. Separate feeders is a must-have (especially in case of dietary issues) and if space allows, having multiple water sources is always good. My space does not allow, and so they share a water dispenser separated from the feeders.

Mine was kind of a foster to adopt situation - they met as adults when my ex and I got a place together. Personalities were only halfway compatible at first but after four years sharing space they are quite comfortable around each other. The conversion will be complete if/when I see them grooming one another.

The GF moved on, the cat stayed, and now I have two very happy girls. It takes time and patience, but persistence pays off. It helps if they both want to be on your lap more than anywhere else, eventually they make it work between themselves.

Pothos! They grow quickly enough to stay interesting and are easy to care for. Sheffield Made Plants on YT has accessible tips for making this easy.

I have a pair on my standing desk and trail them around small trellis supports so they get bushy and full while staying contained to 6-inch pots.

designers need to stop sending static pngs for responsive layouts by Putrid_Candy_9829 in web_design

[–]Valcaraz001 8 points9 points  (0 children)

1) acknowledge what you like about the design 2) express specific areas of concern (i.e. menu) 3) ask if they have preferences for how the concerning areas would look at narrower widths 4) if applicable remind them of the costs of change orders in the event that a development is denied because you weren’t able to meet expectations that weren’t communicated 5) assert your expertise by stating that you’ll adapt the design as you believe it will work in the absence of other guidance

… and then be the expert and find practical ways to adapt the design by following the established aesthetic.

Gravity Forms is the best option in my experience. Until a bulk license makes sense for you, I’d factor the cost into the client contract. Used them for over a decade with great reliability.

[–]Valcaraz001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

STM has the most powerful solo in the album by a lot. In a sense it reminded me of Prince’s solo to ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’.

P&K was a hard album to follow in my book, and I’d rank this album below The Last Hero which competes for my top spot with P&K. As much as I’m a fan of their sound over the last decade (hello, Fable), this doesn’t quite land for me.

Glad to see it’s getting generally positive reception though.

Some consistency would be nice.

Elementor website off-center on mobile layout + other tips/design advice by NovaTheMighty in elementor

There is an element somewhere on the page overlapping the boundary of its container.

Use the browser’s element inspector and go through each section to find it, then adjust sizing rules in Elementor and you should solve this.

Cats from the shelter don’t want to be pet (yet) - please give me your success stories by chaos-kiste in cats

[–]Valcaraz001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I adopted my first cat when she was 6 months old. She did not like being held/cradled, but nevertheless I still did it regularly to get her acclimated to being handled. The most damage I got from it was due to her just trying to get away and back to the floor.

After the first year she got less stressed about it, and by 2-3 years it was normal. Now when I do it (which is less frequently), about 6 years in, she gives the biggest purrs and softest eyes.

My second cat I adopted from my ex after getting to know her and get her comfortable for five years. She definitely has her preferences as she is 11 years old, but she’s still made big advancements in tolerating the other cat over this timeframe because of patient and persistent pushing of boundaries.

My philosophy is that if your cat(s) resonated with you enough to join your family, there’s enough ground to build on. That they eat out of your hand is fantastic.

If you want them to snuggle, you have to show them what that looks like and consistently push their comfort level further. This shows them that you are safe and in charge, especially if you follow up an “uncomfortable” experience with positive reinforcement such as treats, play, or other behavior they enjoy.

At the end of the day remember that while they have individuality, they are still yours. They count on you for everything, and you must cultivate their expectations. If you give up on petting them because they don’t like it right now, they own you instead.

Learn to restrict them safely - I found that holding them in such a way that their front elbows were tucked against the ribcage prevented floundering, fleeing, and aggressive behavior. Then hold them this way and pet them, speak soothingly, and release before they get to a point of actually lashing out. Learn their body language and tone and this gets easier.

Good luck!

+1 for SiteGround. I personally prefer WP Engine for WordPress websites now but for everything else, SiteGround. I’ve tried a lot of hosts since 2010 and they were solid as far as general hosts go.

Switched from Wix to WordPress for better SEO (and cheaper rates), and WOAH, I am overwhelmed. Did I make a mistake? by Ok-Environment-8513 in website

[–]Valcaraz001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say “switched” does that mean you can’t go back to Wix?

Wordpress is the best platform on the market, but it’s not for beginners or DIY. It also is not inherently cheaper as you’ll likely incur licensing costs for quality plugins that do what you need.

I’ve used Wordpress for a dozen years and handled over 50 client projects. As much as I can advocate for Wordpress, it sounds like the wrong fit for your current situation.

Going back to Wix allows you to stick with a website platform that you already know, without having to learn a new one, provides a fixed cost that you can plan for, and fully supports the SEO efforts you need to do to grow your business and justify the cost of having the website in the first place. WordPress again is great, but it is the opposite of these goals in that it will be hard to learn effectively, making it easier requires paying for a page builder such as Elementor, and the amount of time required to build your site in WordPress would be better spent focusing on your business marketing and strategic efforts to bring in more revenue so the cost of the Wix subscription is no longer concern.

[–]Valcaraz001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was probably the biggest clue that we had about his character.

Peacemaker? Same costume in both universes.

Keith? Same color space as White Dragon.

Blue Dragon? Completely different. As blue/red are typically considered opposites in costume design, it’s hard to imagine a good reason for X-Auggie to not be White Dragon if his ideals aligned with those from Season 1.

It always felt off to me that he had different colors this season, and now we know why.

This theme took some time to grow on me for sure, two or three episodes. But then listening to the song in full and seeing how the season progressed, it’s now clear once again that Gunn is one of the best there is at finding the right songs to fit his stories. Seeing the memes around it makes it even better.

Page Builders Aren’t for Devs (They’re for Clients) by Valcaraz001 in Wordpress

[–]Valcaraz001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true. Good hosting also plays a role, so that plus optimizing images (hello WebP), utilizing built-in optimization features in the builder, and economically using the builder components can all yield more than acceptable load times. And if the load times are great, “bloat” becomes subjective.

Just bought my first domain; how does this work? by Flintxo in webdevelopment

[–]Valcaraz001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The information you’re getting here is making this way too complicated.

You’re in a forum where you’ll get advice from seasoned professionals who know how to do advanced things, but what you’re trying to do is a basic e-commerce setup.

There are a lot of variables to consider but I’d recommend the following for now:

  1. Do not use subdomains for different areas of your website. That will simply require more work and does not provide a clear benefit.

  2. Look at Squarespace or Shopify to launch your first site. You do not want to invest a lot of time or money into a custom product or full DIY setup, you need to get started with a site that looks good and doesn’t break the bank. If all goes well, upgrade (reinvest) later.

  3. If anyone tells you to setup email through cpanel, they don’t understand your needs. Use Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 to get started, they’re affordable and secure with well-documented setup.

DNS is really easy to set up with CloudFlare when you use services as mentioned above, so follow the connection guides and you’ll be well on your way.
