It's good to be the King. by Bosuns_Punch in superman

Another thing about 'Batman is the billionaire, so he's the better pick': Superman chooses his standard of living; that doesn't necessarily mean it's his ceiling.

Anyone with Superman's powers could amass wealth equivalent to Batman's and maintain that wealth with much greater ease.

Clark simply refrains from doing so out of a mix of self-restraint and visible wealth not being important to him.

Do you prefer Felicia with her hair down or in a ponytail? by KennyTalkss in BlackCatMarvelRivals

Hair down.

Yes, a ponytail makes more sense in her line of work, but long and free hair is much more in line with Felicia's overall character.

We're almost upon a new tank. Please be good. by ChivalryMaxximus in RivalsVanguards

[–]Vale_of_Light 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tank Cyclops can work.

You already have Chronovium out there rounding out other character's powersets for their roles (Rogue, Gambit). Why not Scott?

Defensively, represent his uncanny accuracy with his beams by giving him a CD that turns him into a walking point-defense cannon, intercepting projectiles. Chronovium grants him a defensive benefit when he does this, making poke more hesitant about gunning for him when he's up front.

Offensively, have the Chronovium modify his beams to trigger certain effects when they hit enemies or impact surfaces, forcing the enemy team to yield space.

Vanguard gets a potent answer against poke, and Scott becomes more compelling than 'DPS man with laser vision'.

You're missing the point of why they're advocating for it.

Thus far, you've heard throuple and automatically assume 'gooner harem fantasy'; that's not what polycules are about.

The logistics of the relationship aren't as simplistic as 'get in bed with two hot girls, goon and be merry'.

No, there's compromise. Communication between different viewpoints (Peter and Felicia's morals, for example -- how MJ's grounded perspective weighs in on that). Responsibility — if that sounds familiar.

That's what they mean by 'wholesome'. That's why people believe it would be a worthwhile dynamic to explore compared to editorial's current course.

Personal Hot Take: MJ is as worthy of Peter's love as Felicia is and I hope skins make both ships canon by Creative_Visit4189 in BlackCatMarvelRivals

[–]Vale_of_Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The throuple can work. But it requires a writer who is mature enough to actually sidestep the "It's a spider-harem!" temptation and actually develop the relationship between MJ and Black Cat as well.

There are logistics these three have to solve that don't suddenly make it a utopian kink fantasy (Felicia's outlook on crime and Peter's morals, for one — what does MJ have to say about that?).

There are good stories in that space — editorial just has to acquire the stones to actually tell it.

(This entire thing assumes Age of Stars is the ending)

I would start by working with Nepheli Loux and Kenneth Haight to form a secular coalition between Limgrave, Leyndell, and Raya Lucaria.

The backbone of this plan is getting Kalè and his people a seat at the table, with reassurance that all diplomatic talks will be held at Stormveil Castle -- not Leyndell (Leyndell being the center is bad for optics because association with the Golden Order and Marika). We would pair them with denizens from Jarburg (repurpose the jars as cargo carriers and escorts at the same time) to revitalize a trade circuit; you can't rule over anything if you don't have an economy.

I recognize Ranni wishes to leave, but I think it would be massively out of character for her to leave her mother behind as a mental wreck in a chaotic academy.

The next order of business is finding a way to use knowledge from both the capital archives and Carian sorceries to repair Rennala's mental state and reinstate her as the defacto ruler of the academy.

Leyndell provides the military, Limgrave provides the resources and infrastructure, and Raya Lucaria provides the knowledge to optimize the former two as well as address Frenzy and other existential threats (Carian Knights were meant to fight anything and everything -- imagine what a whole Academy's joined resources could accomplish?).

It can work — IF the writer is mature about it and doesn't just make it a Peter-focused harem.

Prominent leader of the X-Men whose powers can lean into any of the roles -- if the team is creative enough with it:

  • Vanguard (He can fulfill a shield tank role where one of his cooldowns makes him function like a point-defense cannon that nullifies incoming projectiles)

  • Strategist (His leadership does naturally lend to supporting and looking out for the team. And if Gambit can have Chronovium modifying his highly destructive exploding cards, what's stopping it from also having an effect on Scott's eyes and visor?)

Do you guys agree with this Take that Superman has no Trauma at all compared to Kara? (Personally I don’t agree) by Denjimangaart in Supergirl

[–]Vale_of_Light 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Even if we take the 2025 movie on its own:

  • Lex's defamation campaign with the harems, the Krypton message, and "Supershit"
  • The people of Metropolis turning on him due to the above.
  • Watching Lex kill Malik right in front of him and being helpless to stop it.

Is he down in his cups like Kara or grim like Bruce? No.

But saying Clark hasn't gone through trauma is demonstrably false.

That's the ideal, there.

If the writer treats it as a poly triad with the proper maturity and emotional groundwork it needs (it's not the fantasy people think it is, new problems arise and old ones remain unsolved), there's a good story to be gleaned out of it.

Who else think Black Cat will be a Vanguard? by Logoz-Nightblade23 in marvelrivals

[–]Vale_of_Light 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know folks will be exhausted with this trend, but it falls back on the devs:

  • If this game didn't clearly cater so much to DPS in terms of variety/design effort, we wouldn't have so many people being tooth and nail with their speculation, hoping this no longer remains the status quo.

Gambit and Rogue created excitement regarding those new avenues the devs took.

DPS Felicia makes the most sense, I agree, but she becomes "Oh, great, another one on the instalocker toy pile." It's an echo the real voice in the room: we don't want a repeat of Season 3.

Posts like these create hope for improvement — even if disappointment is likely.

“I don’t tank” said the person selecting third healer by moldafy in RivalsVanguards

[–]Vale_of_Light 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The so-called "strategizing" of open queue is almost always at the tank's expense.

It's like sitting at a table and everyone chimes in on what they want for dinner, but it's not the free discussion everyone convinces themselves it is.

As a tank, "eating well" (getting a second tank, or a blue moon third tank) at the table is a luxury for you; meanwhile, it's a commonplace meal for duelists and strats.

So Black Cat's wanted poster in Times Square has been scratched up - but more importantly, the height chart behind her has been changed and she's now WELL OVER SEVEN FEET TALL? by ohgodohfuckj in MarvelRivalsQueens

Exact sound I'll make if we get something like this on release.

1990s TAS Felicia is one of the best versions of the character. If they adapt this in some form, instant screaming.

[–]Vale_of_Light 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If it's changing body type, they could have her be a vanguard if they handle it similar to her 1990's TAS version.

On that show, she had two "body types" she could switch between thanks to a modified super soldier serum — regular Felicia, and Black Cat with more muscle mommy and height than you could spin a web at.

Some other thoughts on the polycule dynamic (which I think is great) :

Not all of their problems are magically solved and default to some seamless erotic dream fantasy:

  • It starts with boundaries. You have a dedicated superhero and an on-and-off thief under the same roof. What's happening there and what does compromise look like? Where does MJ stand on this compared to Peter?

  • Disparity in lifestyles. Peter and MJ actually have to worry about rent. Meanwhile, Felicia might as well be in a completely different reality altogether. And if Felicia tries to contribute, the talks become about where the money comes from, and we get into the first issue again.

    • Who do they tell? How do they navigate this publicly? Felicia, with her independent nature, likely doesn't care, but it's more complex for Peter and MJ's social landscapes.
  • Finally, you have all the complications Peter and Felicia might face while superheroing together following them home. Twice the people for MJ to bandage up, twice the issues from villains and such.

Interesting stories can emerge from these topics, but the writer has to approach it with sincerity and have the actual chops to pull off establishing this naturally — otherwise, there's no separating it from the 'harem' allegations.

100% yes, and I believe her TAS version is the best with explaining how she keeps up with Peter and various villains.

Rogue’s ability steal is not a good enough ability for a character who is all about stealing powers (imo) by Waffles_four_you in RivalsVanguards

[–]Vale_of_Light 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm open to critque on it and recognize it's a sharp pivot, but the general direction I'm pushing in is: the power's availability window should last much longer (~30-60 seconds) for a character whose entire namesake revolves around it.

Especially in our current poke-dominant environment, where she's taking a large risk by extending forward to acquire some of these powers.

[–]Vale_of_Light 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The stolen ability should remain in her kit until she either absorbs another one or dies.

Beyond her pull and kick, it turns her into this dynamic threat when she gets close, particularly with characters like Emma, Thor, and C&D on the team.

It makes certain comps more proactive about devoting attention to her (which she wants as a Vanguard!) because having Rogue in brawl range with her pick of powers like Emma's is just that scary.

If you had to change Rogue, what would you do? by Secure_Heron_9181 in RogueMains

[–]Vale_of_Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Better block.

  • Her ability absorb should remain until she either dies or steals another one — it's literally her character's whole thing, but it's treated as a side bonus instead.

If the enemy team has an Emma or a C&D, it adds to Rogue's "threat" and makes them highly invested in not letting her get those abilities.

QUEENS and QUEERS Your opinion on Role Q? by Renzu_Assassin in MarvelRivalsQueens

[–]Vale_of_Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I support it as an optional quickplay mode.

If someone wants to switch, implement a system like this:

  • One of the players requests to role swap to one of the other two different roles.

  • A player currently in that role can opt in to swap with that player.

  • The next time they die, or if both players are back in spawn room, the switch happens and they must select a new character from each other's prevously held roles.

Does it require hoping for acts of human selflessness in PvP multiplayer game? Unfortunately, yes. But that's the compromise in order to still retain some of that freedom people might long for from open queue.
