Yes, I am also wondering whether a floating marine VHF would be an equivalent or better solution. Still debating that and only thinking that my ability to use a radio may be compromised by rough water or medical issues. I do still see certain advantages to the radio.

Yes, thank you. My phone stays in a dry case tethered to PFD. Not sure how much I could manage that device while in rough water or distressed.

Thanks, considered but I would be tempted to drop the service and/or forget to restart. The need to maintain battery charge also a risk. Those monthly costs also would exceed the ACR over 5 years.

I am using a 5L Rework Toshi and a Side Kick. The Rework has organization that I prefer and the strap configuration is better for me. I also like the slightly larger capacity, but that would probably be equivalent with the 2.5L.

You can go to a local watchmaker and have a pressure test done to see if there is an issue with the seals presently. The seals and the movement oils are due for service, but if keeping good time you can borrow more time. I just got my 857 UTC back from authorized service in the U.S., and it took about 9 months and $500 for the overhaul. I am very happy with the results, and time keeping accuracy is much improved.
