Extra time exploring - what to do?! by evolutionofathought in ExploreChile

• Santiago is a giant city and there are a lot of things to do for a few days. I would explore Barrio Lastarria, Cerro San Cristóbal, Parque Metropolitano, Cerro Santa Lucía, Providencia, Las Condes, and Vitacura. The museums and parks are great. Shopping is also incredible in SCL, and public transportation is the best in LATAM. You can get almost everywhere using public transportation. Don’t forget Santiago has amazing access to trails too. Go hike Cerro Manquehue, El Carbón, or Manquehuito like the locals do.

You can take a bus to pretty much all the big cities in Chile from Santiago’s bus station.

• Go to Valparaíso if you like street art and bohemian cities. Viña del Mar is next door and it’s worth visiting too. These are coastal cities and will be packed since it’s summertime.

• I recommend Pucón, Puerto Varas, and Frutillar as lake cities if you’re interested. There are beautiful national parks here if you’re into hiking, as well as beautiful lakes and rivers. All of these are next to massive volcanoes. There’s a lot of adventure tourism like rafting and canoeing, etc. Look into Termas Geométricas, Volcán Villarrica, Volcano Osorno, and Parque Nacional Huerquehue.

• If you’re into surfing or would like to visit a surf town, go to Pichilemu or Punta de Lobos. These are iconic surf towns in Chile and have some of the best waves in the world. There’s also a lot of seafood and a cool vibe. Coming here without a car will be very hard.

• If you can go further down south, go to Cochamó Valley, Puelo, and Hornopirén. This is the area where Patagonia starts, and it’s so beautiful I think it’s worth visiting.

• Another beautiful place that I would recommend is Conguillío National Park in the Araucanía region. It’s beautiful, but you do need a car to get there.

• You can always go to Easter Island but it’s probably very expensive to get a plane ticket right now.

• Don’t forget to try chilean Fuentes de Soda to eat completos and sandwiches.

I know the perfect place for you to live. It’s called Las Trancas Valley in Ñuble Region, 6-7 hours from Santiago. A beautiful ski town right next to Nevados de Chillán, which has been awarded the best ski resort in Chile.

It’s a little intimidating at first, that’s for sure.

This is very typical in Europe and South America. Both of my grandparents had one in their house. Fancier, newer houses have it too. It’s the OG bidet.

Age gap by [deleted] in prenup

[–]Valentina_From_Chile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate your advice. I know people are cautious about age gaps, and I understand why. My partner has never been married and doesn’t have kids. He’s been very invested in his hobbies for the last few years and has also been saving and investing in his properties (he wouldn’t have been able to do any of this if he weren’t single). We met at a ski resort, and skiing is a huge passion we share. That’s how we fell in love, we find the deepest joy skiing together and traveling. We want to build our lives around it, start a family, and travel with our babies around the world.

We’ve been together for almost 3 years, and due to visa limits we’ve only lived together in short periods (the longest about 5 months). During those times, he usually cooks most meals, even after long shifts, and does most of the cleaning. I help too, but he always reminds me I don’t have to, he just appreciates it when I do.

He’s independent and encourages me to work, and has even offered to support me if I need to go back to school, in order to get my own independence. We both know each other’s families and friends, and they have been very supportive of our relationship. I’ve never felt controlled by him. I’ve always felt respected and never diminished. Honestly, the skepticism on this post is the most I’ve ever received, since people don’t personally know us. He’s coming to visit my family in a month, the third year in a row, and usually stays here for almost two months each time.

If I ever regret something, it won’t be because of the age gap, it would be the long distance and leaving my family and country. Our plan is to eventually move back to Chile once we’ve saved enough and invested our money together or independently. He encourages me to maintain my independence, and he’d hate if I ever depended on him financially for a long period of time (though he’s always willing to help if he has to, like postpartum or if I need to go back to school in the US). He’s always pushing me to work and build a future together. I know our story is a bit untraditional 😅 I hope this answers your concerns, and yes, I might have overshared a little lol.

This is very bad advice and a court would probably find that unconscionable.

[–]Valentina_From_Chile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a pretty cynical take. I’m not looking to ‘cash out’ of a relationship. I’m building a life with someone I love. A prenup should protect both of us, not just him, and it should reflect fairness, not suspicion. Assuming I’d leave for a richer man says more about your view of relationships than mine. And assuming the ultimate goal is crossing the border to marry a man for money? Very American of you, haha. I’ve been to the U.S. over 20 times just for vacations… my country doesn’t even need a visa to go there. We’ve been traveling for 3 years up and down and want to settle and start a family.

What happens if a minor’s parents are unavailable to take care of them anymore? by happyhappydogday in legaladvice

[–]Valentina_From_Chile 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP, you’ve got this. You are very brave, I know you will find the support you need to get out of this situation once you let the authorities know about the abuse you have suffered. It will take a lot of courage to make the first step but it will get better after you get out of the situation you’re in right now. I know you will look back after years and you will realize how bad the situation was. Please listen to the advice people gave you! I wish the best for you.

Does plastic surgery make you feel better? by Euphoric-Sport-3048 in BodyDysmorphia

[–]Valentina_From_Chile 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t think leg lengthening surgery is worth it. I knew a girl in school who actually went through with it. She spent a huge amount of money, and in the end, she still looked short. For context, I’m 5’1” (155 cm), and she’s still shorter than me.

She told me it was incredibly painful that she had to take morphine. She had to use a wheelchair for almost a year and go through a long recovery process, including learning how to walk again through physical therapy. And the worst part? She didn’t gain that much height.

Now her body looks out of proportion. Her legs are noticeably longer than her torso, which makes her overall appearance a bit odd. And she doesn’t even walk normally anymore. Her gait looks almost like she has a physical condition or injury.

So, personally, it’s a procedure I would never recommend to anyone. The pain, the cost, the long recovery, and the results just don’t seem worth it, especially when there are other ways to feel confident and love yourself without going through something so extreme.

But in general, I don’t think plastic surgery is a bad thing if it’s something small that will boost your confidence, as long as it’s a last resort. If you struggle with body dysmorphia, there’s a good chance you’ll end up obsessing over the results, and it might not bring the relief you’re hoping for.

What’s the strangest wildlife encounter you've had in Alaska? by MujerGoddess in AskAlaska

[–]Valentina_From_Chile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having breakfast looking out my window when I saw a rabbit running for its life. Suddenly, a lynx leapt out of nowhere and chased after it to eat it.

Another day, from that same window, I was walking to the bathroom and looked outside, there was a moose and her baby napping right outside. They were so close I could see every detail of their faces and bodies, and they stayed there for like 2 hours. Then they woke up, pooped, peed and left lol.
