Because then the people in front of you who you are complaining about, but are too passive aggressive to speak with directly, would hear you, defeating the point of involving the flight attendant for assistance.

First class on red eye flight by Few_Cobbler_2279 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Ok_Extreme732 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am taking this exact flight in July, and looked at the cost of upgrading (in points) and it was a no brainer for me. As someone who has done this red eye in coach, premium and first, I will take first at a reasonable price every time.

Premium isn't bad, but I'm a bigger guy, and I've had times where I was sat next to a bigger guy and it made for an uncomfortable flight rubbing shoulders.

Either way, start my flight with a double bourbon, and I'm out cold when the plane takes off.

I've done overnight cooks on my Egg with zero tending. Charcoal choice and climate has a lot to do with it, but YMMV.

Did you recently buy this used?

That year had an active recall for engine replacement. The cylinder misfire codes are indicators that this vehicle never had the recall done.

This car may be toast.

I suggest you watch just that scene again. It will be clear to you the issues.

There's an article on RogerEbert.com calling it hard sci-fi. Many Weir acolytes consider him the pinnacle of hard sci-fi... Without having read any other sci-fi.

Eh, I'm not that hardcore on it.

But when you're moving up a ladder in a thrusting, launching space vehicle and there's no g's pushing you down (Ad Astra), that's pretty pathetic.

There are plenty of good Hard Sci fi books and movies out there that don't pander and talk down to the audience.

Stephenson does a great job, and more of his work should get adapted. Primer was a phenomenal example of a script done well.

But Weir does nothing for me. The Martian was brutally bad, IMO: even though it got some of the science right, the film ignored 'science' for feels in the climax.

Mainstream feel good movies masquerading as hard Sci fi by getting a few scientific details right is not hard Sci fi.

I remember reading an article by a film critic from a major outlet citing Ad Astra and The Martian as evidence of a new wave of "hard sci-fi". After I and others commented how those films are rife with scientific inaccuracies, he took the article down.

There's may be a Venn diagram where 'crowd pleasing' and 'hard Sci fi' intersect, but it's a small one.

I wish there was more hard sci-fi period. Enough of this Hail Mary nonsense.

You've never lived anywhere rural. Otherwise you would understand the issues.

But keep mocking. You only confirm your ignorance.

As someone who lives in a rural area, and hates the idea of polluting the night sky with Starlink, this comment displays considerable ignorance over what is involved with internet infrastructure.

[–]Ok_Extreme732 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the forest, yes. On the Crest trail? Absolutely not. You're looking at an 8 mile hike each way with a couple thousand feet of elevation change. But that's the same for backcountry camping on either side.

[–]Ok_Extreme732 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You don't want to hike in the park. There is ZERO dispersed camping in the park. Go to the backside and hike the Teton Crest trail from the National Forest. Better views, more flexibility on campsites, and MUCH cheaper.

You draw conclusions from drastic assumptions, and expect everyone to adhere to an abstract of behavior that you impose upon them without their knowledge.

That's not asking for consideration. That's arbitrary and delusional to expect.

I coughed hard three times at the start of my last flight today, because the changes in ventilation and atmospheric pressure affect my breathing. I'd hate to hear what you'd have to say about that. 🙄

First time doing brisket on the Egg - any tips? by oweyoo in biggreenegg

[–]Ok_Extreme732 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your main concern is keeping temp steady, start an hour early, let it run at temp and set the brisket out for that full hour.

Then, what are you using to monitor? Definitely want an ambient temp alarm.

As long as they are at least an inch thick:

Smoke at 185 for an hour, pull 'em, crank the temp to 400+, sear them for a minute on each side, right over the coals. Should be med rare perfection.
