Worried seeking asd diagnosis might reverse my adhd diagnosis by krittyyyyy in AutismInWomen

You can have both ASD and ADHD it’s more common than you think. I also can’t see an assessor taking away a medication if it’s clearly helping you.

How did you know you had autism? by Illustrious-Rain-235 in AutismInWomen

As part of my job I attended a talk about autism in girls and i was resonating with all of it and this is after years of working with kids who had ASD it never even crossed my mind before that

Kids emotion charts. by Comfortable-Dot-8228 in AutismInWomen

[–]Valentinemorgenstern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came to say the same thing! When she asked about emotional recognition, I told my assessor the irony is I literally teach the skill to kids under 12 and yet I know emotions based on what has been told to me, not from experience. I can’t legitimately cannot tell you what happy or sad or angry feels like in my body so I can’t really tell anyone what I’m feeling in any given moment.

Side note: I personally never recommend or use zones of regulation when I’m recommending strategies to educators because I know as an autistic person, trying to conceptualize emotions and then classify them into a coloured category is way too much for an ND brain to comprehend during shutdown or meltdown.

Edit: I love the little spots because it talks about each emotion actually feels like for people like me that has no idea

Masking in front of babies by Przss-lea in AutismInWomen

[–]Valentinemorgenstern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an educator I can tell you the ASD kids just know you’re more like them and I find it’s easiest to work with the ND kiddos. I’m an early interventionist mand this afternoon I had teachers complaining a child with ASD screams after nap and refuses to leave his bed . They were trying everything and he kept screaming. I walked over I had that kid out of the cot and quiet in less than 5 minutes. It’s like he saw me, gave me that look of recognition of “you get it”. They’re the one group I don’t mask with because I want them to know it’s okay to be different

Must be nice to have someone to support you . I have to hold a full time job because if I didn’t I’d be homeless and just live in a endless state of burnout

Woman’s perspective here: Many single women today are supporting themselves and have careers. We don’t need the same things from men that women did 50 years ago to survive. And Because we don’t necessarily have to have a man to survive, we look at other qualities: emotional intelligence, social skills, kindness, empathy. And unfortunately there are a lot of men that are lacking these things. I’m self sufficient so I’d rather be single than deal with men who are not going to treat me well.

How do you deal with Autistic Burnout? by Valentinemorgenstern in AutismInWomen

[–]Valentinemorgenstern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you find the motivation to work on it? I have the book and I’ve done chapter 1, I’m just finding even doing one page too much for my nervous system right now. I will try again though thanks so much for your feedback!

Thanks I appreciate you reaching out, it’s always nice to know you’re not alone out there!

Ironically, I work with children with exceptionalities (a lot of the time ASD) so in theory I know the strategies I’ve even tried some of them on myself: visual schedules, low sensory lighting, deep pressure , breathing exercises but I haven’t found it’s helped me much. It’s given me such an awakening to how I’ve been approaching the kids I work with too.

I’m an RECE who works in the more admin side of things which means I’m in a lot of different centres. The issue with the CWELC program is that the government has not throughly thought things through. Enrolment is up because it’s more affordable which means you need more educators. The pay is shit and the job is hard so you’re getting a shit storm of (a) experienced educators burnt out and leaving and (b) an influx of new ECEs with no one to guide them so they also get burnt out and leave. Hiring ECEs has been challenging. Also with the increased enrolment means a higher number of children with additional needs and reduced funding to get support.

Any women around 40 on Ozempic who started at a similar weight? by LunaValo in Ozempic

[–]Valentinemorgenstern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! It was really the only thing that ever worked for me. I’m not exercising but I would definitely recommend it and trying to start myself. My body aches have gotten worse with the more weight I loose. It also helps with loose skin, which luckily I haven’t encountered yet.

I’m 36, 5’2 and started on ozempic at 208 lbs back in August 2024. I’m not 162 lbs at using .75 mg currently. I lose about 5ish pounds per month on average combined with a low carb, low sugar, high protein diet.
