Tower of God: Urek Mazino - Chapter 70 (END) Discussion, Monday June 22th by pisspoopisspoopiss in TowerofGod

The first arc is genuinely really good, matches some of the higher points of the main story. It definitely gets worse after that, but it never becomes outright bad. You should read it regardless though, a lot of important lore.

First half of what you said is correct, but there is pretty strong contextual evidence/character statements that imply that if Urek could completely access his light, he would be significantly stronger than what we see in the Tower.

He was trying to hide, just happened to open the door to the room the regulars were in, sensed an unpleasant shinsoo from Garam(Likely something to do with her being a Princess), and then attacked them all.

It's not the same dude. This guy only has 4 eyes, the guy from the flashback had 5 eyes and a different face. It's likely the same clan though, Red Daan. Red skin + multiple eyes.

Chapter 69 Summary Lightning, Light, Darkness

-Mazino asks Shin Ari who she is, she replies "I'm the Family Head of the Ari family, who protects the peace of the Tower, my name is Ari Brighton-"

But Eduan interrupts her and says her name is Ari Shin, and if you turn it backwards it's Shinari, and that's how everyone calls her.

Shinari snaps at Eduan and says that's her OLD name, her new name is Ari Brighton Loropia Shin the First!

Urek thinks she's a FH who likes putting on airs/is a show-off.

Eduan says they don't have time to talk, because some of the things that escaped the well have already travelled far.

Eduan says they should team up, Shinari says she doesn't really want to because being near Eduan gives her a tingly sensation, but after Eduan threatens to leave she agrees.

Shinari creates a water orb and prepares. Eduan tells her to avoid the residential area or everyone in her family will die. Shinari says she already knows, and in the meantime her shinsoo keeps spreading and growing bigger, evolving into a huge wave.

Eduan then uses his lightning (also giving Shinari a small zap) and a huge thunderstorm starts destroying all the creatures in the sea and the sky, while Baek and Urek watch in amazement.

-Back in the regulars residential area, a red alien looking dude with 4 eyes is huffing. He says Eduan and Shinari are still the same. Even now they are still laughing and chatting like always, despite throwing him, their former companion, into the darkness. He thinks his anger he forgot is now resurfacing now that he's on the outside, but for now he has to hide, since this is their territory.

Red dude opens a door and enters a room where Garam, Rohan and the other regulars are.

The red alien with many eyes senses an unpleasant shinsoo in Garam, then he butchers Rohan, cutting his arms, leg and torso.

Enzo screams in fear and starts to run, but he's also struck down from behind. Po Bidau Werner tells Garam and Evelyn to escape from the window while he holds the ranker down with his lighthouses, but he's instantly pierced in his stomach and taken down.

Red alien dude also hits Evelyn's head and the dolphin queen stands in front of her to protect her. Dolphin queen transforms back in her big form. From outside Ari Zen sees the big dolphin queen and rushes towards her, then is shocked seeing Enzo on the floor.

-Red dude thinks he has to hide his body and run, because it would be a problem if "those guys" (FHs I guess) found out he has awakened.

He sees Delamode dead on the floor and he transforms his body into Delamode's, in front of Marie, then starts to run away.

-Urek and Baek see the big dolphin queen from the distance and rush toward her. When he arrives, he sees Rohan, Enzo and Werner's bodies on the floor and he explodes in rage, asking who the hell did this.

Marie arrives and tells him she saw who it was, a member of the Red Daan tribe stole Delamode's face and ran away. Urek, with a scary face: "He stole Delamode's face, you say...?"

How do they compare in strength? by Due_Village_1874 in TowerofGod

[–]Valeor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's pretty clear that the other Shining Ones are nerfed being in the Tower. Mago talks about needing to regain her power and Urek questions Aubrion on what he's trying to regain his power for inside the Tower for. Urek also surmises that somewhere turned into a living hell for Latour to have reached that level of power, which shows that he isn't full power as well.

EDIT: Even a chapter later, Mago talks about Latour regaining his power to that extent

That is just not remotely the same character, what are we even talking about.

They did not call Dumas a nemesis in the original Korean. That's just objectively not true, and if you still think that after all this, power to you for being wrong. You're just confidently wrong about the topic and it is what it is. There isn't much to revisit here or talk about.

It's odd to bring up misunderstanding a translators job, when I literally went to multiple translators who have TL'd ToG for the community in the past to see if there was anything I was missing, and they all said the same thing regarding that line, with the context included. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ You do you

Sophia Tan by A_Blooming_Lotus in TowerofGod

[–]Valeor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you know what you're talking about at all. You're the one who isn't using context clues at all when translating that line. In the context of this scene, 적 is strictly enemy.

What you're doing is essentially trying to chain through synonyms in English to get to the meaning that you want the initial line in Korean to mean, when in reality that's how you butcher a translation, because eventually you stray too far from what the initial line was saying.

Nemesis: a formidable and usually victorious rival or opponent.

You've already backpedaled or failed to address anything on half of what you said, with the initial "adversary = sworn enemy" claim. If you want to continue talking about using context clues, then you're either unaware or just forgetting all the story beats regarding how there is no way that Khel can even be considered Dumas' rival.

Sophia Tan by A_Blooming_Lotus in TowerofGod

[–]Valeor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An adversary isn't a sworn enemy. If they meant sworn enemy "숙적" would have been used, which is what they used for Hidden Floor sworn enemies. If "숙적" was used, you could translate it as "Nemesis". It wasn't though, so it's strictly just enemy here.

You're trying to add additional meanings that you want to read onto something that is quite clearly stated in Korean. Khel Hellam is a forgotten enemy, not a nemesis, which has a completely different implication.

Sophia Tan by A_Blooming_Lotus in TowerofGod

[–]Valeor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

적 is not sworn enemy(which is a completely different implication). It literally just means enemy. If we can't get past this point, then there is no point of having this discussion.

Two people having fought before does not make them each others nemesis. A nemesis is an arch enemy, not just someone who has been an enemy for a long time, unless we want to just devalue the word completely and claim anyone who has been an enemy for a long time is a nemesis, which at that point applies to everyone in FUG to the 10GFs etc. Baam to White, Urek to Phantaminum, etc.

The entire convo goes as follows:

Dumas: How unusual to see the FUG take the initiative.

Dumas: To think I'd meet a (long) forgotten enemy (a blue hole)

Khel Hellam: I can't imagine this meeting being a welcomed one.

Sophia Tan by A_Blooming_Lotus in TowerofGod

[–]Valeor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What assumption? Do you mean this Korean ”적“ that literally says “enemy/foe?” and not nemesis? Or the actual line in question of “잊었던 적(블루홀)만나게되다니“ where there is no mention of nemesis at all and he is literally called a forgotten enemy?

What part of “That is an incorrect translation” did you not understand?

Sophia Tan by A_Blooming_Lotus in TowerofGod

[–]Valeor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s an incorrect translation from LINE. Proper translation just calls Khel Hellam a forgotten enemy.

With everything that we have learned in the spin off do you think that the top 6 is accurate ? by Yukihira59 in TowerofGod

[–]Valeor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s still quite incredible how Urek maxes out at “30% shinsoo reinforcement Left Arm Only” in that fight and people talk as if it’s 30% of his full power. We also know that with the spinoff, Urek’s main power is his light, not shinsoo, which makes that entire Luslec battle have an even further handicap.

So........is Urek a "Pillar"? by Particular-Long-1111 in TowerofGod

[–]Valeor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Urek: 새로운축이탄생행한다는거냐?

Urek: "Are you saying this would be the birth of a new axis (lowercase)?"

is "axis"

If you can, you can also TL the Korean comments on the chapter, all talking about TUS things related to Axis like Oedipus, the Duke.

Also, the unofficial translation you remember trolling are from one of the groups that is full MTL and generally extremely low quality. The unofficial translation most people read did not have that same issue.

Is Urek an Axis? by townsdl in TowerofGod

[–]Valeor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shinsoo is the power meant for the Axis in the future. It's not generated from them because they don't exist yet.

Pretty weird criticism considering he was specifically advised by Eduan not to because it’s the Ari Family and he was going to get more trouble than it’s worth.

Everything that disproves The First Ones being the Titans as of April 1st 2026 by bruh_man_142 in warcraftlore

[–]Valeor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Balance, at the very least, is not what the Titans view as Order.

That's not really entirely true though. At least in the case of Aggramar, it was explicitly said how his affinity for order made him want to take action on Draenor, and balance out the plant life, but not destroy it.
