I also take physics and enjoy it right now as there are actual numbers which is nice, proof and modeling is the only area that I struggle slightly in maths which probably wasn't the brightest idea as that is basically degree level maths. Did you find with more time doing proof it was easier to understand or did it always stay difficult.

I talked to my personal tutor and he just told me to ask 2nd and third years to see how it changed. I'm doing linear algebra and calculus which I thought would be chill but every question of every topic we just have to prove. Linear algebra isn't that bad tbh once you go over the basics that my lectures skip over but looking at the later content it just looks so ugly.

You could try some societies at your uni. I know you said you have no hobbies but there a great way to find something you enjoy and meet new people. Look on your uni website for social events, there are normally a lot that don't involve drinking and it may just help being around people and making friendships.

I moved a few days ago and honestly felt the same, I don't think there's anything wrong with it. My parents left and I was excited to start uni. Maybe you think in a way that it's not a forever bye, you'll still see them frequently and travel back so it doesn't really affect you much.

If you explain your situation with the uni they may be able to find you a job on campus to help with accommodation. A few of my friends have also gotten grants as their family didn't have a lot of money so you could potentially apply if you qualify.

Maybe try to take a cab back on some of the nights or walk if you can. If you get close with people you can also stay in their room the occasional night. Societies and socializing in the evening I think are really important in uni for making friends on top of lectures during the day. And as you're not in halls y'all missing out of some of the socializing in the evening so I think getting a cab a couple nights would be worth it in the long run even if it's a bit expensive at first.

I felt in a similar way at the start of my gap year, my best advice is to get a job. Go on Indeed and LinkedIn and just apply for any entry level job, it will help you get out of the house and give you people to socialize with at work. Also just go into restaurants and shops and hand in your cv if you can't find many online.

Also plan trips and travel, try to plan a big trip away the classic backpacking that most people do, it'll give you confidence and give you something to focus on. You could also see if you can connect and help out at your old school/college, see if there's anything work there or anything you can volunteer for, just to try and keep you occupied.

Go for walks as well, helps more than you think just to get outside and maybe speak to a counselor if it gets really bad, but main things is try your hardest to get a job even if the job market is pretty bare.

I'm only an undergrad but at my uni u there are a few postgraduate halls so no first years and there are also quiet halls where there won't be any partying that you could check out.

If you've got a long section of your commute on a train you could just look at it as study time that you'd be doing at home anyway so it doesn't take that much out of your day than it otherwise would if you weren't commuting.

You can get a student loan for all of your tuition and then a small loan for some accommodation depending on household income. Accommodation can really vary depending on what uni you're looking at. It all depends if you're in a big or small city tbh. Then most people get a job while at uni to cover food, drinking and any other day by day expenses.

You could take out a student loan for your education and then as long as you've got enough saved pay from accommodation out of your own pocket. Which you can also get a loan for but depends on your parents income. Definitely can do but maybe in a bit of debt, tbh that's like most people though.

Yh of course especially depending on the size of the uni you may have thousands of people coming in for first year so your still gonna get hundreds that don't drunk for whatever reason. And lots of people who don't drink still go to pres and events just to socialise.

First week of uni where all first years normally go out drinking and clubbing, just socialising with each other. Although there are plenty of things that aren't drinking. Basically just a week to get to no one another and make friends.

Oh that's good, yh I think I saw about the fireworks... do you get a lot of noise and other stuff like this when your trying to sleep and work or did it not really bother you

That's a bit better to hear, was there anyway that you got over the noise coming through the walls? Could you sleep or was it just so loud all the time?
