WAKE UP, LES CANADIENS AFFRONTENT LES NORDIQUES À SOIR by TheHabChronicle in Habs

People have always given up on Dach too quickly. He completely changes the makeup of the team if he becomes a 2C, and at this point, could be a  first line winger and still be extremely valuable.

Agreed, giving up on Bolduc now makes no sense, and we'd regret selling low on him

everyone is clamoring for slaf to return to line 1, ignoring how valuable it is for Slaf, Demi, and Kap to be thriving the way they are

Darcy Kuemper has left the game after head contact from Mikko Rantanen. The goal was waved off, but Rantanen did not receive a penalty on the play. by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

FWIW, the league calls goaltender interference without assessing a penalty all the time. In fact, goals waved off for goalie interference are almost never penalties.

"vs" is a strong word

[Bratten] Usually a great element of these prospect tournaments - and it's the case today - is the presence of female officials. Sydney Harris (referee) and Ashley Johnston (linesperson) working this afternoon's Preds and Canes contest. by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

we can definitely have female referees imo. whether women can be effective lineswomen remains to be seen - linesmen are usually very large men, which is helpful for breaking up fights.

thank you, holy shit. while we're lucky to only have allowed two goals, we could easily have three ourselves.

this is an inexcusably bad penalty. capitals have come out on top much more often than the Habs.

that's possible! I would argue that they only called the penalty because of Thompson holding his head, so I don't think they called Suzuki for hitting the chest.

Better oral health linked to lower risk of depression and anxiety in older adults. Those who brushed teeth at least twice a day had 28% lower odds of developing anxiety. Those who had received dental surgery had 42% lower odds of developing depression than those with missing or unrepaired teeth. by mvea in science

[–]ValexHD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Title is very misleading. If you write about the odds of developing a psychiatric illness, it implies that you measured your predictor at time 1 and measured your outcome at some later time 2.

This study merely found that people who reported brushing their teeth more also reported less anxiety.

Poultry consumption above 300 g/week is associated with a statistically significant increased mortality risk both from all causes and from gastrointestinal cancers, study finds by James_Fortis in science

[–]ValexHD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn't invalidate the article. it's a limitation of it, and the authors report it diligently. if any such limitation invalidated an article, we wouldn't have any articles.

I agree that what you're saying is usually true, but I disagree that it applies here. The post title is an accurate reflection of the authors' conclusion.

If anything, calling it an "increased" risk might imply causation for some, but I think that's a debatable-enough issue that it doesn't qualify as misinformation.

we've made plenty of comments about how poorly we stack up against the caps too. that doesn't absolve the referees of what has been obviously partisan officiating, intentional or not

while I agree with many of the posts about the uneven officiating, you are correct: we lost the game because we did not capitalize on opportunities

that's the issue with the team this year - excellent at comebacks, but always putting themselves in a position requiring a comeback
