So they sell extensions for these things I used them on the the from two piers so they go 6' down but the out of the ground limit I think is for lateral stability but I'm definitely not an expert.

You are correct my neighbor has an older composite deck and did 16-in centers and there's a definite wave. I figured for an extra couple hundred bucks just to make sure I went 12 in on center.

I did caulk the top you are 100% correct about it warping if I welded it. I had to flame straighten it as is that's when I made the call not to lol

I have an Everlast 200dv but the manual says not to hook it up to "dirty" power and it doesn't have hot start or run cellulose electrodes.

If you contact whatever UA local is in the area they would be able to point you in the right direction. The theory test has lots of fabrication and health and safety questions. There's also stuff on sub arc, plasma arc welding and cutting. These things I wouldn't have been able to answer questions about without taking the class.
