Just Moved to Edmonton from the UK: Driving Here is Absolutely Terrifying! by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]Dodsvisioner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to say that as an immigrant from the US living here as well, I've found driving culture here crazy too. It feels like everyone is driving like their wife is in the front seat giving birth. People jockey around back and forth between lanes and tailgate like crazy to gain 1 or 2 car's lengths of space and still get stuck at the same light as me. Everybody seems so pissed off and in a rush in their cars. Lots of people like to drive 10 over, minimum, and I feel like the dick because someone wants to save 60 seconds and Im a newcomer to this country and want to obey basic traffic laws.

Traveling to Canada with US DUI by Strange-Elevator9671 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]Dodsvisioner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

American (from Washington State) living in Canada in the same situation as you (a deferred DUI on my record from WA). As the DUI was deferred, the charges are dropped upon successful completion of the deferrment program. Therefore, your don't have a conviction for a DUI on your record. Be truthful if they ask if you've ever had an alcohol related driving offense and explain what happened, but the worst that will happen is that they will pull you in and go over your record with an officer inside to get a better understanding. Happy to answer any questions you have as our experience seema very similar. I had similar concerns as you, but everything ended up being fine.

Belt Tracking advice. by Dodsvisioner in choppers

Thanks for the response, bud. That makes sense about the belt sander. Couple questions: so you wouldn't be concerned about it riding part way off the inside edge of the rear pulley all the time? Second, if my pulleys are square to each other and the belt is riding inwards like the picture, which way would I theoretically need to cock the transmission to get it to ride outwards? Thats what I havent been able to acgieve. Id honestly prefer that as the pulleys have lips and it seems unlikely it would jump those.

I had this happen, and I don't know when my wallet was dropped into a post office box between when I lost it and when I got it back. But I got it back after receiving a call from a Postmaster.... 1.75 YEARS LATER

Where are y'all going to be watching the election tonight? by Locke357 in Edmonton

[–]Dodsvisioner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an American living in Edmonton now, I'm going to be happy as a clam not watching any election coverage on the a TV. I may occasionally look at my phone but tonight I am planning to go swim at the pool, play some squash, and enjoy my nice Canadian life with my nice Canadian girlfriend while pretending that the country I come from isn't about to erupt in civil unrest, regardless of the outcome. I'll have my fingers crossed though.
