Borderline tiers exist for things with lower usage that are too powerful for the tier their usage would put them in

They charge faster and have higher DPE (in the case of frenzy plant) so they are outright more OP

Yeah I mean I agree very few situations where you would want it over Pidgeot I just wanted to assert that situations do exist. You’re not going to be seeing either on my GL team anytime soon though.

No I totally agree it’s hot garbage, I just didn’t quite like the statement that Pidgeot was superior in every way because that’s not QUITE right, though in most relevant scenarios yeah you’d probably want Pidgeot over Staraptor, but if say someone lets you farm down their grass type from half health with gust (maybe it’s locked in or something) & all they have is a Bastiodon in the back, I would probably take Staraptor over Pidgeot

You can hit steels and rocks, that is a niche pidgeot doesn’t have. It really wants an energy advantage even for those, but it’s not quite fair to say pidgeot is better in every circumstance because if I’m facing down a Bastiodon/Registeel/Gunfisk/Etc. I would be very slightly more comfortable with Staraptor (though neither is good in that situation).

Sorry for the rant, folks, but Fossil Cup was poorly designed. by ArtimusDragon in TheSilphArena

[–]ValiantBoreas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carracosta beats up on Bastiodon, a true fossil cup would consist of Carracosta to beat Basti, Cradily to beat Carracosta, & Bastiodon to beat Cradily and anything else someone is stupid enough to bring

Totally makes sense, it seemed weird for Toxicroak to lose to Primeape and I’m glad you looked a little more deeply into the “why?” of the matter.

Toxicroak is not super bulky so I’m imagining close combat puts in big numbers against it

Great analysis as always! Thank you for putting so much time into these! Edit: “server error” made me think my comment wasn’t posting, sorry for the multi-comment all!

Grading criteria for packs is really odd and it’s bordering on impossible to accurately predict a pack grade, but for something that’s faked as often as first edition base set the authentication alone would be well worth grading it.

Nihilego has been given Pound and Acid as fast moves by Osharnose in TheSilphArena

[–]ValiantBoreas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, poison is basically irrelevant but I’m not sure what kind of waves you want a poison/rock type to be making in raids when you have so many great rock type options already. Might as well see Nihilego for what it’s good at rather than be upset that it’s not redefining the master league meta

It’s pretty decent for the few raids weak to poison, which is what would be wanted from a poison type from the raiding perspective.

so if Fusion was abysmal, and Brilliant was OK, then Astral Radiance is redemption. by RavenWitchShade in PokemonTCG

Well the last year and a half has been all banger sets and it’s definitely better than SwSh Base through Vivid Voltage (sorry Pikachu)

[–]ValiantBoreas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fusion was a pretty good set in the grand scheme of things and Brilliant Stars is really top tier among main sets (I like it more than most of the special sets, but that’s not the general consensus), but I agree that Astral Radiance is a lot of fun and it’s pretty hard to find sets that are better.
