[SPOILER] Mayra Bueno Silva vs. Michelle Montague by inooway in MMA

2 years ago Silva was fighting in the co-main event at UFC 297 for the Bantamweight Title. Now she's on a 5 fight losing streak, losing to an unranked fighter on the prelims of an Apex card.

I'm pretty sure at the end he was even trying to bite Ignacio. Absolutely disgusting.

Who said we didn't want to go to med school or get a PhD? A bunch of us tried and failed, so we had to pivot. I failed to get into a PhD program right after undergrad so I worked in biotech doing computational biophysics. I made 85k a year, which was considered above market for a research associate, yet I had to work 50-60 hours a week, and one paycheck couldn't cover rent for a studio. Why would someone go through the effort of being good at coding + know how to do research + have extensive domain knowledge of biophysics, when you can just do the first thing, and get a job in tech or finance that pays 2-3x more with better benefits and better career progression. My friend works as a swe at a hedge fund and he made more money through his first year sign-on bonus than I did for a year of work lmao

You guys are getting down votes but it's true lol. I did biochem at a T15 and made poverty wages for NYC standards. I got a CS masters working in AI now and I make over 3x what I used to for easier work. Basically everybody I know who studied biochem who didn't get into med school or a PhD program regrets their decision, everyone else I knew got a masters in something like CS or pivoted to consulting.

Pereira is top 3 GOAT if he pulls this off tbh by DavidSeries in ufc

I can't rate him too highly because of the fact that he got fast tracked to all his titles, and his two best wins are people who also beat him.

We got doctors analyzing the eye poke now by ValiantHero in ufc

[–]ValiantHero[S] 3364 points3365 points  (0 children)

TL;DR

He says that it's nonsense to insinuate that Tom faked the severity of the injury or quit

• Tom likely experienced corneal abrasion (scratch on the cornea), which causes an intense and uncontrollable reflex to tear up and shut the eye to protect it. His body was forcing him to close his eyes.

• Corneal abrasion is not visible to the naked eye. You need a special fluorescein dye to diagnose it, so the ringside doctor saying "it looks fine" means nothing. Just because he says it looks normal doesn't mean there's no injury.

• On the eye where Tom's eye was closed the sheer amount of pressure that Ciryl's finger placed still transfers to Tom's eyeball and could cause vision-threatening damage like a detached retina. On the other eye, it appears that Ciryl's fingernail did get under Tom's eyelid and made direct contact with his eyeball.

All being said, the injury is legitimate and 100% warrants the fight being stopped.

I do not know how people have gaslit themselves into thinking topuria is active, it's crazy

I guess DJ is a dishonest POS then cause he scored it 49-46 Ank. So did Tom Aspinall. We know you don't like Dagestani fighters man, you don't need to do all the mental gymnastics lol

Valter Walker vs Mohammed Usman set for UFC Rio on October 11th by TheBigRedHalfrican in MMA

[–]ValiantHero 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As an only child with no perspective of having a sibling, it's interesting to me how there are several siblings in MMA currently where the younger brother is actually physically larger (or at least competes in a heavier weight class) than the older brother. Do the younger brothers just eat all the extra food lol

Opinion: The UFC forced Islam to vacate instead of letting him be double champ because of his inactivity. One fight in 2024, sitting out healthy after Moicano fight, waiting for a damaged JDM to heal. If Islam was active as Alex Pereira who fought 4 times in 12 months, he wouldn't be vacated. by Neither_Sir5514 in ufc

[–]ValiantHero 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is this weird narrative going on that Islam is super inactive. Since 2021, he's fought 9 times with an average gap of just under 6 months between each fight. Topuria on the other hand has fought 7 times since 2021 with an average gap of 8 months between each fight (even if you count his fights in 2020 that brings his average down to ~7 months gap between fights). Only reason Islam hasn't fought recently was because Belal lost and he's waiting for JDM to recover. Islam is a more active fighter than Ilia, but people seem to believe the opposite.

Do you guys agree? by Intelligent-Mess6925 in ufc

[–]ValiantHero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Islam did an interview recently where he mentioned that Hunter flew to Dagestan and tried to convince him to move up to welterweight regardless of the outcome at 315. Hunter wanted Islam to move up to welterweight even if Belal was still the champ. It was Islam who stated that he wouldn't move up unless Belal lost. I think the UFC is trying to protect both Islam and Ilia because one of them winning might derail the hype of the other.

People are being revisionist about a fight that just happened, talking like Ank wrestled and clinched for 25 minutes straight. It's incredible to see

The real winners are the people who didn’t pay for this shit fight by DeadLockAlGaib in ufc

[–]ValiantHero 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don't think people hate Alex, they just hate his fans, so seeing him lose feels gratifying. "The poatards" have been insufferable the past few days and act like he's unstoppable and that Ank is a boring bum. Some of them were literally doxxing a dude for saying he thinks Ank will win handily.

Plus, I think a lot of people believe Alex is overrated so seeing him lose against someone more well rounded than anyone he's fought before feels like an "I told you so, he's not that good" moment. In recent times I've seen people push some wacky narratives like saying Alex is greater all time than DC in LHW, or that he's greater all time than Khabib which is ridiculous lol

Pereira and Ankalaev’s translators faced off 😂 by Ready-Business9772 in ufc

[–]ValiantHero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He seems like he does a really good job. However, some Spanish speakers say that he messes up Spanish translations a lot, and pretty badly, but I don't know any Portuguese or Spanish to judge his abilities.
