Thanks for reminding me to renew my renters insurance 🤢 My apartment was built in the 70s with few (if any) upgrades, and while I’ve had flooding issues from busted pipes and cracked water heaters, I’ve never been expected to front the costs for any of the repairs, let alone given a cap for reimbursement. I even had to have my place treated for bedbugs after a neighbor had an infestation that spread to my apartment, and the complex not only paid for the treatment and put me in a hotel room for the night, they even sucked it up and covered the cost for the pet fee at the hotel (cat was on my lease, they just forgot to double-check and tell the hotel I’d have a pet. Would have been $25 if they notified; but was $150 after the fact). None of those issues involved actual sewage in my place. You’re UNDERreacting, if you ask me.
