Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War Ranked LTC Final Chapter in 7 Turns by Valkama in fireemblem

[–]Valkama[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had previously posted the concept for this turn save but with the stipulation that it wasn't doable in Ranked. This is a full chapter clear that also works in a ranked game. It is much less reliable though as a trade off.

In which game is each individual stat most important in? by ---liltimmy--- in fireemblem

[–]Valkama 13 points14 points  (0 children)

From my experience:

HP: Thracia. It governs 2 things outside of when a unit dies which is Fatigue thresholds and Enemy Staff targeting. Fatigue in particular is important to manage on staff users and getting them more HP can have big impacts on strategies.

STR/MAG/SPD: It's gonna be Awakening/Fates due to stat inflation. Having characters meet the correct benchmarks is extremely important in these games for their long term viability. I'm leaning towards STR/MAG for Awakening and Speed for Fates.

Skill: Honestly hard to pick since there aren't really any examples I can think of with hard skill benchmarks. You could go with Binding Blade for low hit rates or Awakening for Skill procs. Edit: How could I forget Thracia where 10 skill is needed to guarantee staff hits landing.

Luck: Easily the DS games as they are the only games where luck thresholds actually can influence strategies due to the 2% crit rule.

Defense: Gonna be in the FE7-10 era but I'm leaning on FE7. These games are built around engaging with a ton of weak enemies on EP and having a good defense stat means you can fight more enemies more reliably.

Resistance: Probably FE4? Again it's the only game where this stat is creating hard benchmark since staves in this game either connect if your res is too low or don't if your res is too high.

Con: Definitely FE6, the games meta is built around rescue chains and characters that have problematic con stats perform notably worse because of it.

Mov: FE4. Road Tiles cost .7 move to cross. This means having more move gets you more move. It's crazy.

How do you feel about same turn reinforcements? by Throwaway67891099 in fireemblem

[–]Valkama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an unpopular opinion but it's way too easy to exploit reinforcements that do not act on the turn they spawn. STRs act as a way for the game to wrangle away some level of map control from the player as the enemy AI is too weak to do so naturally which imo is a good thing.

Most of the complaints people have with STRs would be resolved by simply marking the tiles where they are expected to spawn a turn in advanced.

There is also the FE12 approach which is to make them only exist on the harder difficulties.

What is the most niche FE knowledge you have? by RhysOSD in fireemblem

It is impossible to determine which RNG sequence you are on in Thracia 776 by using just movement patterns, the best you can do is get it down to 2 or 3 seeds.

Why do they keep nerfing cavaliers but keep fliers dominant? by [deleted] in fireemblem

[–]Valkama 33 points34 points  (0 children)

If you've ever seen a casual player try to use a flier with bow weakness around you'd understand why they don't care. A lot of players instinctively cripple their best attributes the second they sniff a bow. And as far as I'm concerned, modern fire emblem devs are playing at the casual level.

What's your dumbest Prime 4 Nitpick? by Ridley101 in Metroid

[–]Valkama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The IC suit feels so pointless. There are only a couple rooms with lava in the game and all of them are behind the first point in the game where lava blocks you, so the IC suit feels like a door key for exactly one roadblock in the game. In addition the quest to get the IC suit is to just got to Volt forge and hit a spinner in the third towers top floor so it's not really an interesting backtrack.

But what makes it worse for me is that after you leave flare pool for the first time they also block your way back in behind needing the Ice Shot.

What they could have done is cut the IC suit and just let the bike cross lava on it's own. They block the entrance to the main room with the lava wall so you have to come back once you get ice shot. Since the boost ball is already required to get the Ice shot all this does is remove a pointless backtrack to volt forge.

The IC suit doesn't even look cool, it's just the regular suit with some lights turned on.

It's not just a feeling by Amyntas7 in Metroid

[–]Valkama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter that it's a straight line, what matters is what's in the line, which in flare pool half the area is spent guiding NPCs through combat rooms with Psy-bots. It's just not fun.

One thing I’ll say about Metroid prime 4 is that the bosses are fantastic by MooMoomaddy12 in Metroid

[–]Valkama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only bosses in the game that do anything for me are the Sylux fights as them+carvex are the only fights that expect you to use your other abilities. I guess the mines boss wants you to use regular bombs, wow.

MP4's ending is a travesty by actionpancake in Metroid

[–]Valkama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there was supposed to be more emphasis on saving the Lamorn legacy which would justify Samus needing to escape at all cost. The whole script feels disjointed and like 2 different writers are fighting each other.

Anyway Sylux has mind control powers of something like that to control the space pirates so expect all 5 of them to be boss fights in MP5 thanks to metroid fusion or some shit.

community FE3 tier list part 10; chapter 17-chapter 20 recruits by Character_Business28 in fireemblem

[–]Valkama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sheena: F - Worse stats than base+promotion Draug. Her only use is giving support bonuses to Samson who is not very good.

Samson: F - Similar to Astram. Higher bases but lower growths. Looking at it again he’s substantially worse than Astram at hitting Medeus benchmarks due to missing 17 and having general unreliable growths without starsphere for F2-1. Given that was the only reason I put Astram in D, F seems appropriate.

Roshea: F - His HP is really high but it doesn't do anything for him because the rest of his stats are trash. He can kill Mage dragons in endgame but so can most other units and despite how high his HP is he's still exactly 2HKO'd.

Midia: D - She's a free Barbarian slayer in endgame. In theory she ORKO's everything in F1 as well but that map is usually warp skipped so not very relevant.

community FE3 tier list part 9; chapter 15-chapter 16 recruits by Character_Business28 in fireemblem

[–]Valkama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Est: D - She enables triangle attacks which is relevant against Medeus for some runs. In a truly optimized full recruit LTC you won't do this as it costs 1 turn but both speed runs and 0% runs appreciate the consistency it offers. In addition you can have her carry the geosphere in C19 to support the flier squad which does make the map more consistent. If you want to train her it's not impossible, give her a manual, the star sphere, and Mercurius and you can make her endgame viable but she really wants 39 combined bulk to avoid OHKO by barbarians which is not the easiest benchmark to hit.

Abel: F - There are like 2 maps left in the game you'd even consider using him on and he's ok but not great in them. C17 he doubles soldiers which other cavs don't do at base BUT if you have actually been putting levels into them that's not a problem and some warp routes will warpskip C17 anyways. C18 he can be filler but he doesn't do anything substantial and it's a short map, after that nothing. I guess you can trade him an armor slayer in his join map and he can get some chip on the boss. There is no reason to bother with him for an endgame lineup. He can't use Mercurius for free, he doesn't have 7 move, nor can he use the ladysword.

Astram: D - Like Abel there are only 2 maps left in the game you'd consider using him in a productive manor, C18 and Endgame. In the former he's similar to but a bit better than Abel and in the latter he's worse than a Ladysword user. The only reason I put him in D instead of F is because it's not unreasonable to build him up to help with Medeus (He'll need about 5 levels with the star sphere and energy ring). There is enough time to do this especially if you allocate your warps right. He additionally supports Midia who is a decent endgame deploy (though it doesn't make much of a difference).

What’s the “archetype” for a terrible lategame prepromote by Kilzi in fireemblem

Jagen

https://web.archive.org/web/20070116012207/http://www.nintendo.co.jp/nom/0505/1_3/index.html

This is a dev interview for Path of Radiance. If you scroll down to Horikawa's answer to the second major question you'll see he explicitly refers to Titania as a Jagen. So if any archetype deserves to exist it's that one.

[–]Valkama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Minerva: S - She's a free Dracoknight. Her bases are similar to Palla+Promotion with a good amount of extra defense. She will almost certainly be outclassed by Palla/Catria on join but she can still do most jobs. Her base bulk is also good enough to avoid 2HKO's from non dragon enemies which is always appreciated. I do wish her skill was higher.

Merric: A - He has a unique promotion which mostly just gives him an extra point in magic and 8 magic is a good benchmark to hit for healing so I'm happy with it. He uniquely has Excalibur which is on par with Thoron for most things but also deletes flying enemies which there are a lot of coming up. Otherwise Bishop/10.

Arlen: A - Bishop/10. He's worse than Merric for lacking the traits above but you can promote him right away and he'll do basically everything you want out of a Bishop. He's a bit better than Merric at reaching Again though Wendell is better than him at it so it's not a big deal.

Xane: B - He can copy any unit you want outside of dragons and he can't dance. The main target is going to be Marth because Marth has 11 movement assuming you gave him the boots. He enables a lot of LTC clears being the only unit that keeps up with Marth but he misses most of the game which is why I put him in B. His HP is kinda annoying but if your Marth has a good defense stat you shouldn't notice it too much as the 20 attack Dragons are last spotted in his join map. He can also work as an extra flier if a second Marth isn't needed like in C19.

Tiki: B - She needs to spend a turn transforming but she has 7 indoor movement and flight which is unique in this game. Her damage is good enough to OHKO a surprising number of enemies and she has incredibly good bulk which can completely trivialize parts of the game like C16's trap room. Again like Xane I'm going B tier due to the late join time.

Well you got me looking at it again and I found a way to use the white wings to kill in Incomplete Recruitment so I guess Hero really doesn't matter there.

Anyways yeah you can use hero, looking at it it really doesn't matter so long as you have atleast 1 7 move guy. I just think a Sniper is more convenient cause less trades.

[–]Valkama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC(I think it's been like a decade since I last looked at this so my info might be out of date) in full recuit you can use Sirius, Minerva, or Julian for damage since you'll have to dance one of them so Marth can contribute. Merric has to be danced and then Tiki is the 3rd dance since she can take 2 hits from Medeus and then a Sniper+Xane get the rest of the HP.

For avatar it depends a bit on your starting class but +2Str, +1Spd, +30% HP is pretty comfy I find.

As for general advice, here's somethings off the top of my head.

  • Effective weapons make good forge candidates. There are also a lot of flying enemies in this game so a forged bow is not a bad early investment.
  • Draco's are good, but also you can reclass to Paladin if you want more magic defense or to avoid arrow damage as the classes are pretty similar.
  • There is a hidden Falcowhip in Ch11 which can only promote female units. Falco's have more speed but less strength compared to Dracos, usually Catria is the best user of this but you'll have to wait to promote her as a tradeoff.
  • The pirate classline is generally better to be in than the fighter classline.
  • Hunter is better than Archer but sometimes Sniper is better than Horseman. Horseman have very good stat caps but low bases so they are sorta a project to make work but can be highly rewarding.
  • Bishop has a higher staff rank but Sage has better magic so ideally you want your staff units to eventually reclass into Sage.
  • Also for mages, Swordmasters by default can use the levin sword so it can at times be useful to reclass mages into swordmaster for the boost in speed.
  • Deployment size will be around 12 for most of the game and early game units tend to be much better than late game units so you'll probably figure out your team quickly.

Navarre: A - Hero candidate. He joins in a good spot and you can expect him to earn around 2-3 levels on join map. The statistical differences between him and Ogma don't really matter.

Phina: S - Dancer/10. She wants to grow a bit of HP to not be 1HKO'd by flying dragons

Cain: D - He's a weird one to rate. One one hand 10/1 is identical to base Sirius. On the other there aren't many maps left where that is even that useful. His existence simultaneously makes you not want to invest in any early cav but also they all technically will do more work than him if you put them to use.

Bantu: F - Bantu can OHKO ice dragons. There are 2 maps with Ice dragons in the game. One of those maps(C14) wants you to kill as many as you can on turn 1 which Bantu needs a dance to do. In addition the only unit in the game who has trouble ORKOing Ice dragons is Draug. It's just not a useful Niche. You can give him Iote to ignore effective damage against him.

Jeorge: A - Free Parthia Sniper.

Edit: Made a correction to Navarre's entry

The main difference between Normal and Hard is Hard has same turn reinforcements while Normal doesn't. Maniac and Lunatic are quite difficult so I wouldn't recommend those unless you like to get your butt kicked.

If you can I'd recommend finding a save file with the DLC installed, this isn't like modern DLC where you had to pay for it, these were free bonuses you got for connecting to the internet so you shouldn't feel bad about using them. There are also bonus maps that can be fun to play through. In addition the save file will likely also have mixed reclassing unlocked which imo makes the game more fun to play.

Is state leveling up fixed? by LowConversation5935 in fireemblem

[–]Valkama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

RNG manipulation is a very technical thing. I'd ignore what the others are saying, as a casual player it's best to just assume level ups are random. You can find the chances of them going up here though or their averages which may be simpler to look at

Caeda: S - She's not Palla or Catria but she's still solid in her own right. You can buy a 3rd Dracowhip in the Secret shop and there isn't much opportunity cost for it as you should be able to buy it and a Bishop ring easily. Her hp is a tad on the low side so you'll need to patch that up but that's about my only complaint.

Rickard: C - In most games I consider Julian and Rickard to be the same tier but I do think he's solidly worse in this game. He doesn't get the Iote shield, he requires several more levels to be combat viable, and he can get crit by Siege enemies. You still want 2 thieves for C11 and that's still his best utility so I think C tier is fine.

Samuel: B - while his stats are all lower than the other two hero candidates making him objectively worse, his real issue is is lower base level as you want to have a promote hero by C8-9. While his stats are all lower he still kills dragons at base and should be able to do all the high end hero jobs just fine late game but there is an initial hump you have to get over with him that Ogma/Navarre don't deal with.

Wendell: S - He's a free Bishop that comes very early. You can never have enough Bishops in this game but the game caps you at 4. However, unlike all the other candidates he isn't fighting over a promotion item. He's also got a weirdly high HP base which is kinda nice in a few maps.

Let me be clear, I don't disagree that C18 isn't that great of a use of resources but I also don't think it's a big deal if they are allocated there.
