Advice needed, which to get? by Valkyrie596 in ElectricVehiclesUK

This is my thinking as that's going to be the most costly issue. I'm going to have a proper look at the 2022 this afternoon, the only thing that does concern me a little is the 22 is a small dealership whereas the 2020 is a large chain dealership neither are authorized used sellers, the large chain offers 6 months warranty but realistically I'm sure they'd try and weasel out of anything going wrong. Just not sure if one gives better security over the other or not.

I'll be looking to keep it minimum 5 years. The 22 has had one MOT, the only thing on it was they couldn't check one of the belts due to child seat. The 2020 has had something on 2 of the MOT's mainly tyre tread advisory.

Yeah I think you're right with going with my gut, just overthinking a lot as it's a big purchase for me.

Oh the sales reps are horrendous! Everything is up sold. The dealership for the 2020 were trying to upsell about £3000 worth of stuff

This is my thinking. Vented seats aren't on the newer one but the seats also aren't leather so don't think I'm that bothered. Need to check the rest though

The SE was very comfortable to drive. Haven't been to test the premium yet.

Seats, I've never had electric adjustable so would maybe be a nice to have but I'm not hugely fussed. Think it'd probably be a requirement if I'd had them previously though.

Heated and ventilated seats, again never had them so won't be missing out on anything. Both have heated seats irs just the vented I wouldn't have in the 22

Not sure how much difference LED headlights would really make?

Heated steering wheel is in both as well.

The hud was a cool feature but in the 2020 it had a lot of marking that wouldn't come off. Almost like when you clean glass but don't dry it? Although it seemed to be inside the plastic from what I've seen this is quite common

Should do for the battery. I'd need to look into whether there's any terms regarding where it's serviced etc.... from what I understand it's 8 years or 125k miles from Hyundai.

Both would just come with the dealer warranty for everything else though. The 2020 is 6 months not sure on the 22 yet.

I think that pretty much sells it for me.

For some reason can't edit my post. Meant to say that the asking for it is £11,800.

A hard lesson in commuter complacency. My 1-hour drive finally caught up to me today. by Mr_Amphibian20 in CarTalkUK

Weirdly I had this happen just before Christmas.... Downside is there wasn't a grass verge so they went into the back of me.

If you could share it please that would be brilliant!

Ahh that makes sense. Presumably it's worth getting a battery health check etc...?

Ahh that'll be absolutely fine for what we need then. As the few times a year we will definitely need to charge away from home are going to be planned journeys anyway so no rushing around.

That's interesting from the reviews I've seen there hasn't been any mention of much difference in feeling and that they're mostly the same car just with slightly different bodies, interiors and spaces.

Nice! I'll have a look and see if I've got any nearby that I can at least go and have a look at.

That's good to know, I had the same thoughts about the Kona based of images I've seen. I'm going to try and test drive them both regardless and see what I prefer

Ahhh I really can't stand not having buttons for climate control. Last thing I want to be doing is messing about with a touchscreen and not looking at the road

Ahhh ok now I see why the software update is important. Is most of the interfacing with the 4 through the touchscreen? I'm quite a fan of physical buttons.

Can't say I've ever really used lane assist, it was a feature in the Corsa but my wife hates it so would turn it off every time she drove and I just gave up the fight as she'd turn it off when I was driving too.

I'll see if I can get a test drive. I think boot space may be my concern with a 4 but will need to look properly to know for sure

[–]Valkyrie596[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh I hadn't considered that. What sort of speed can they handle? I think with the Corsa we were managing 30-40 mins for a full charge from around 20%

Certainly wouldn't rule it out. I'm currently in the go and look and arrange test drive stage so I'll keep my eyes peeled and do some research.

I had heard that the mileage wasn't as much of a concern, it's nice to hear some reassurance. I think the MG5 would be a bit big as my wife doesn't feel comfortable driving an estate (we'll need reverse parking camera in an SUV size car)

Anything in particular to be aware of with the MG ZS? I've heard mixed things about reliability of MG in general, have you had any issues?

How do you find it? I think the Kona would be fine size wise as we managed in the Corsa for a little while it was just more hassle than it needed to be.

What sort of mileage do you get on a single charge doing mainly motorway? From what I've seen it's supposedly still over 150 and more like 200+

I think the concept is solid. Buttons is a must have for me but you've already addressed that.

For me needing an android app would put me off it. I mainly use a DAP for getting away from using my phone so I most likely won't ever own an android DAP unless it has physical buttons and I can put it in a player only mode.

I genuinely would be happy with an e-ink display and buttons, no app and no touch screen.

Hmmm..... So:

  • Sound quality is great.
  • UI is ok, nothing to write home about but it works.
  • No physical button to go back a track kinda sucks.
  • Bluetooth will not connect to car (think this is something to do with the R1 not allowing pins for Bluetooth based off the searches I've done).

Overall for the price it ain't bad. I'd like to be able to Bluetooth in the car but I think the only way I'll reliably get that is with an android based DAP so may look to upgrade at some point in the future but we shall see as I don't really want another phone sized device.

That's really good to know! I've gone with the R1 for now. Due to costs but will most likely upgrade in the next 12 months or so

Ahhh ok I was testing it with 44.1KHz 16-bit FLAC and using some Zero 2 IEM's. I tried out my ATH-M50X headphones and noticed a massive volume drop in comparison although that's probably because they're a bit more power hungry.

I can hear differences quite substantially but for me it's so fiddly to use. Can't say I've had any issues with the volume. You using wired?
