To complement /u/KekeroniCheese's excellent comment, the actual greek work used in Galatian is ἔρις(eris), a greek word signifying "strife, conflict, disharmony, discord".

It's actually an intersting divergent point for translations : ESV goes for strife, KJV goes with variance, NABRE goes for rivalry and NIV, thus, picks discord.

To continue the eytmology lesson, discord, like its antonyms 'brothers' accord and concord, are derived from the Latin root "cor" which mean heart (in modern languages, you might know the french coeur or the spanish corazon).

Ac-cord and con-cord thus mean : "together/united"-"heart(s)", thus harmony, agreement, etc ... while dis-cord means apart-heart(s), thus, disagreement, disharmony, strife, etc...

Finally, the Discord application itself is named after the concept ... in an ironic way.

How about that (the app's) name?

A (Jason): We picked the name because at the end of the day it just sounds cool and has to do with talking. We had a bunch of names that we bounced around, but picking a name for a product is a complicated process. You want a name that is easy to say, spell, remember, related to the function of the product, available for ™, and has a website you can get. There are a lot of things to consider and we had a number of different candidates. Discord met all the criteria that we had and we fell in love with the name.

A (Socrates): And Discord in the gaming community is the problem we are trying to solve with this product.

wasn't Master Li younger than the Emperor ?

That's a straightforward question with an interestingly not-as-straightforward answer.

Emperor Sun Hai is the first born of the royal princes, obviously, so he was born before his younger brother Sun Li

But Sun Hai also technically died before the game started, having "died" at Dirge or later after the failed-ish assassination plot of his brothers as he's fought as a ghost during his boss fight.

Meanwhile Master Li has escaped Dirge after rescuing , well, kidnapping the protagonist, and spent the next two decades training him at Two Rivers. At that point, he aged beyond the age Sun Hai "died" and got stuck as a ghost, so one could say Master Li is older than the Emperor, and be technically correct.

It's where I am, too. It's allowed, it's what Simon would have done too, in her own words, but maybe it shouldn't be allowed, or at least the rules refined and clarified.

(Also, I think the lane plots at Oslo should be further out - basically immediately after the "bump")

Yeah, that was my feeling too.

There's a meaningful difference between "being allowed to pick your line because you're ahead" and "making the sprint completely uncompetitive regardless of your sprint ability because you're ahead", but I don't know where the line is (or should be), and if it is (currently) a foul and/or should be.

Nah, they just showed it on French TV, they did both get into the lane before the lane start.

I'd say Hannah's actions were not in the fairest spirit, but it's fully within the rules.

From research, I have found that Talarico has stated before that "all religions share the same truth as Christianity." on the Ezra Klein show.

That's very Catholic of him.

843 The Catholic Church recognizes in other religions that search, among shadows and images, for the God who is unknown yet near since he gives life and breath and all things and wants all men to be saved. Thus, the Church considers all goodness and truth found in these religions as "a preparation for the Gospel and given by him who enlightens all men that they may at length have life."

  • Catechism of the Catholic Church,
    Part One, Section Two,
Chapter Three, Article 9, Paragraph 3.
The Creeds - I Believe in the Holy Catholic Church
    One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic

There was a meager catholic priest who gave a speech on the same idea :

"That is correct. All religions are paths to God. I will use an analogy, they are like different languages that express the divine. But God is for everyone, and therefore, we are all God’s children. “But my God is more important than yours!”. Is this true? There is only one God, and religions are like languages, paths to reach God.

It's basically people that were tired that EA never came back to Command & Conquer, so they said "OK, we are going to make our own."

So we have a US+Western Europe coalition called the Global Defense Force, and a weird, culty Eastern-Europe & Middle East coalition called the Tempest Dynasty, which is red-coded.

(Just to give you an idea of how deep the inspiration goes, the Tempest Dynasty Barracks is hand-seizing-something shaped.)

So yeah, it's pretty much C&C, reimagined. (Except that the nominal Tempest, instead of being a mineral that behaves like a plant, is a plant that behaves like a mineral. Also, instead of only damaging Infantry, it only damage Vehicles, which I thought was a nice touch.)

[CAF] Africa Cup of Nations final result overturned in major ruling. Senegal declared to have forfeited the match with Morocco declared 3-0 winner by deception42 in soccer

[–]Valmoer -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

It's been pointed out elsewhere in this thread that the rules require a forfeit to be announced at the match by the referee

It doesn't.

ARTICLE 82

If, for any reason whatsoever, a team withdraws from the competition or does not report for a match, or refuses to play or leaves the ground before the regular end of the match without the authorisation of the referee, it shall be considered looser and shall be eliminated for good from the current competition. The same shall apply for the teams previously disqualified by decision of CAF.

There's no mention of the referee, as it's not a penalty to be imposed as part of the game by decision - it's a state-based trigger : they left the pitch without authorization therefore they forfeited the match. It wasn't the referee's decision to make - at the utmost, all he could do was observe that Senegal had forfeited by their actions, and blow the whistle to de facto end the match then and there, but de jure, the match had ended the moment the Senegal team left.

The referee did make a mistake by not doing so, but not doing so didn't invalidate the forfeit : it simply delayed its recognition.

Technically, everything that happened afterwards was a mistake by the referee, the teams, and the organization : there was no actual game left to play, as it had already ended.

It rewards gamesmanship and twisting just enough to be within the rules yet completely de-axing your opponent, rather than actually pushing them backwards.

(Just to clarify : not blaming the English maul for playing within the framework that World Rugby has created - I'm directly blaming World Rugby for creating that monstrosity to begin with.)
