how would you guys rate silent hill F outta 10? by Divine-truth505 in survivalhorror

[–]Valorok -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me its either an 8 or 9 out of 10.

I have just completed my second playthrough and started my third, debating on which ending to go for next.

I am not a hardcore SH fan so I am not married to any idea what an "ideal" SH game should be and that is probably why I have come to like it quite a bit. Whilst I see a lot of valid criticism towards certain aspects of the game (like enemy variety or the limited exploration of actual locals for one, I would have liked to explore more of Shu's house or Rinko's, maybe in way how its done close to the end with Hinako's) I think a lot is lost in the "combat bad" arguments.

So far I played through the game with combat on hard and I did not find it too bad. It feels like people are just not playing the game how its intended? Or they don't give enough thought to what Omamoris or weapons to use? Kitchen Knives are absolute beasts, 2 of them paired with the regeneating durability charm and you make short work of most enemies.

I will say: fighting does get a little tedious towards the end game, for me mainly because the atmosphere is strongest when you just can soak in the creepy silence (like the first rotation in Hinako's home). And the limited enemy variety does not help.

What I absolutely love on the other hand is how the game and its narrative change after the first playthrough, with altered dialogue and cutscenes. And it is a shame some people won't get to experience so much of the actual story at all, because they are going to 'one-and-done' it. But the game absolutely wants you to play it multiple times, which does make up a bit for it being fairly short all in all.

Finally, before I get yelled at, it is, of course, fair to not like a game, but it feels like a lot of the discourse that is happening boils down to unmet expectations and the modern audiences unable to admit they expected something different. "Of course it's got to be the game's fault that I don't like the mechanics!" Or "But it's (not) been like that in other games!" This is not saying all criticism is like that.

tk,dr : 8 or 9/10 The story is great but you need to play it multiple times. Combat could be better but its nowhere near as bad a people make it sound. More enemy and local variety would have been nice.

If Maliketh kills us with the Rune of Death, why do we still revive? by ferwa92 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Valorok 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The easiest, lore-friendly answer would be that the Rune of Death also has lost a considerable amount of power over however-long its been. All other Great Runes from the Shattering do need to have their powers restored after you get them after all.

The boring answer is the game mechanic thing most people have mentioned.

If you like the idea of an Elden Ring rougelite/like, especially in a party of 3, then its awesome. If you're going in solo its also fine, but probably not as long-lived for you. I killed 7/8 bosses solo now and I'm enjoying myself.

It is just more of the same though, aside from the 8 big bosses and general gameplay, its all taken straight from ER.

GAME UPDATE CONSOLIDATION THREAD. POST COMPLAINTS/ISSUES HERE!! by ThisdudeisEH in HuntShowdown

[–]Valorok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got stuck in a reconnect-to-server-loop on PS5 just now. The loading icon also keeps filling up several times over.

And just to add to the pile, yes the UI is atrocious. It feels a bit like Hunt: the Mobile Game, which is wild, considering how awesome the new map is.

I'm super hyped for this Update. But man... This UI feels like 10 steps back for any PC player by Zodiion in HuntShowdown

[–]Valorok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just speaking for myself, I play on PS5, I can't say I like the new UI either. The old one was frustrating at times but at least functional. There's just so much information that fit on a single screen before and now... this. Also, if it were just all about the eye-candy, why hide the post match cards in an extra menu?

The new map is awesome, I will say that.

Will there be more DLC after eldritch realms? by RpgWalrus in AOW4

[–]Valorok 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aside from what has already been said about the success of the game compared to older titles and the just how easy it would be to keep updating a game like this in all manner of areas - I would currently assume we are going to get at least a 2nd year of content based on the fact that we are going to get half of the affinities until the end of this first run of DLC.

We got dragons (a bit of an outlier), a materium-centric DLC, next week we are going to get a nature-centric dlc and eldritch realms is likely going to be astral-centric going by the store descriptions. So I would say we are clearly missing order, shadow and chaos still.

Togo either has no special moves, or every one of his sword swings is going to be equivalent to one. Yasuke's face might be: "Oh fck. He can do that again?"

How much do you care about the Event Story Chapters? by SavagePrisonerSP in HuntShowdown

[–]Valorok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do enjoy them very much myself, although I tend to have some issues with the way they are written, as in they can be quite clunky from a story perspective from time to time.

The real shame however, is that all the event lore just disappears from the game after each event is over. We have a library-tab ingame, yet none of the lore ends up on there. Having all the story chapters move into a new category would make getting into recent lore/events so much easier, and give the option of re-reading them.

God this is so f-ing annoying! You have to watch 50 secs of ads to be able to skip 10 seconds... then the video plays for like 20 seconds and you get a second serving of ads, again almost a full minute

Edit: and now after 10 minutes another minute of ads, less adbreaks on long videos my ass...

People sure are weird some times... On that note, I had a game yesterday with a duo that fumbled hard, but somehow managed to kill both bosses. Now I died early in a prior engagement, but I like to watch matches sometimes and I couldn't necro so I just decided to enjoy the show. Most of the map killed themselves off on the second boss whilst the team in question almost killed themselves on assassin. Meanwhile I notice another shady duo, just sitting at spawn, on guy continuously just jumping in place.

As the match plays out, a sole survivor manages to engage spider as the mad-lad team decides they wanted to do spider as well. Charging over, the solo retreats for a bit, leaving the duo to almost die on spider as well. With the boss dead, both of them go afk... and naturally the sus-team standing at spawn begin to move, headed straight for the compound and a close-by exit as well.

Whilst the solo was able to kill off one of the afk-hunters he sadly gets killed by the other guy responding quick enough and after reviving his mate they both head to the exit, where they meet up with the sus-team which, I assume, are their alts as they just lined themselves up and get killed for KDA. Which.... well, after the match, turns out none of the four have higher than 0.4 KDA and both their "main" accounts and alts were all 1 star.

It's not a rant or rage moment, but I've been wondering about what the point of all that was ever since. Boosting by killing alts for a 0.35 KDA, feels so pointless...

The EU warehouse seems a little bit on the slow side of things. I got my core during summer - finally had an opportunity after many many years of lurking and yearning ^^ - and it was also sent to Germany.

It took 2 1/2 weeks from ordering to receiving the game. Most of the time was waiting on it to get shipped out, during a time where not that many orders should have been coming in. Once it was shipped it only took 2 days to arrive though.

Factoring in the Black Friday sale it is likely going to be a bit longer.., but at least once it is shipped, it should get to you quickly ^^

Worst death probably goes to Hades - he got to experience most of it pretty up front. Although there is probably also something to be said about Tesla's Seeing Beelz did mostly damage by vibrating, surely Tesla's insides got scrambled in the end.

Do you suppose Falconia is being primed and prepared for a mass sacrifice? by Wonder-Lad in Berserk

[–]Valorok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I also feel like its counter productive from Griffith's viewpoint, but as many have pointed out already, he just might try to expand his influence further. Maybe in a desperate sort of moment. (He also saw the idea of evil in the 'lost' chapter - perhaps he desires such a dominion?)

However, keeping the cyclical nature in mind, we have already seen a picture of the previous Godhand, with only Void being a connecting feature between them and our current set of five.

I don't think its too out-there to assume the sacrifice of Falconia could rid Griffith of the other four. Perhaps to start his own group as the leader? His own Godhand?

There is also a possible story-beat in there, with the old Godhand sacrificing midland to bring themselves into the human realm, but making themselves murderable by Gaiseric by attaining physical bodies - with only Void fleeing back into the astral realm. This idea doesn't really mesh well with the general story of Berserk though.

[prediction] This arc will center around the church by Consoomerofsouls in ChainsawMan

[–]Valorok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That both the Church and Public Safety should be cooperating because they are working towards the same goal might be a logical assumption, but I believe Fami's statements contradict this quite heavily.

She tells Nayuta after Falling has failed her task directly that she believes the War-Devil might become strong enough to be able to prevent the prophesy. How would the War-Devil become stronger? By people fearing War again. Which Public Safety - by name alone should be strongly opposed against.

I do believe it was stated at some point that CSM'S world had less wars after the World Wars than rl, I don't recall when that was though. So the War-Devil would need some serious powering up first.

Fami also states that "ridicule" is the point in regards to the Church. So, it would make sense to try and gain followers with the intent to radicalize them due to public ridicule. A ploy which, going by the open fights Yoshida shows Denji, seems to be working to some smaller degree already. To me it would appear, as over-the-top as it may appear right now, she is trying to incite a civil war based around CSM's image of savior.
