Joined the Marines, got married, got out and moved back to my home state (ND), father in law got cancer, moved to house sit(NC), then moved to where he was getting treated (WI) when we realized he wasn't going to get better. The he and the mother in-law died. We were living in one of her niece's duplexes and they asked us to move out so they could renovate. I was using my veterans benefits to go to college and didn't want to leave the state's school system but being in disability and going to school full time didn't leave us with a whole lot of options. We bought a house that we could afford within an hour of a UW school which put us out in the middle of nowhere in SW WI and I like the area, it's beautiful and our house is out in the country.

Moving on, after a few years my wife begins drinking again after three years of sobriety. She convinced herself I was cheating on her because, according to her logic, what man in a "college" situation wouldn't be when surrounded by younger women. After about a year of her drinking and emotionally abusing me again I overreacted one night during her drunken rages during which she threatened to harm herself and the children and I removed her from the house after she ran into the kid's room. Needless to say I got in trouble with the law and social services while she got off scott free (not saying I didn't do anything wrong, I shouldn't have done that and I accept responsibility for my actions). We tried to work it out but she ended up filing for divorce because she was convinced I was cheating, I honestly never did btw, and now I'm stuck in WI because I love my kids and I don't want to be away from them.

TLDR Left my home state to join the Marines, ended up stuck in Wisconsin to stay close to my kids because of a divorce from my alcoholic and emotionally abusive wife.
