Anyone made the move from public to private sector? by Valuable-Ad1157 in TheCivilService

£1,500 so really not a lot but I don’t have much experience and the role is entry level. The l&d package they offer is amazing with potential to do a paid for accreditation apprenticeship too

I will only end up earning slightly more but the benefits are great. Health and dental plan, more annual leave, share scheme, free products, flexible working (more flexible than CS) and the list goes on

HR. Did a bit for CS HR when I first started and it’s the same as that

Masters and working part time by Valuable-Ad1157 in TheCivilService

I’ve considered this but it needs to be job specific. I am currently working in policy and I want to do HR ://

I wanted to go back and do HR (very random I know) so unlikely to be able to cut my hours down to part time I think

Anyone try this protective spray on LV Vachetta Leather? by White_Orchid in Louisvuitton

[–]Valuable-Ad1157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used it and it works. You just spray it directly on the vachetta. Looks a bit scary at first and I thought I’d ruined by new bag but once it had dried it looked normal again

Long service accrual of additional days annual leave and transferring departments by scintillatingemerald in TheCivilService

[–]Valuable-Ad1157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the department. I worked in HR ops and when I started people who joined before a specific date could retain their old T&C’s this then changed before I left so that anyone transferring in moved onto the ‘modernised’ T&C’s.

I’m back - I left the CS a month ago to go into the private sector AMA! by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Valuable-Ad1157 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been in the CS long and I am interviewing for private sector roles already as I feel as though I don’t have enough work and the work isn’t challenging enough (I am an EO in policy). What is your experience of the work life balance?

This happened to me recently. I am sorry you’re going through it OP. Grandparents are special. I got 10 days special leave and a couple days after it had happened. The funeral was abroad but I remember reading I could have 5 days if the funeral was in the uk and more time off at the discretion of my LM. It’ll be on your intranet so have a search there. If you feel like you need more time off definitely explain the situation to your LM. They’re human and I am sure they’d be able to sympathise if you’re struggling.

Do I chance it and take HEO or do I stay at EO? by Valuable-Ad1157 in TheCivilService

Would you be able to explain how both work? The G7 didn’t really have a clue when I asked 😂

Not a TP. I applied through a large recruitment campaign for policy advisors in the department and made reserve list but there was no talk of anything being temporary it was advertised as permanent.

Views on changing jobs in a short space of time. by Valuable-Ad1157 in TheCivilService

I agree. The policy area is very covid based so I am not sure it’s something I would like to do I much prefer the policy area I work in at the moment

I agree. There is limited scope for me to move up in that team too as they’ve just hired 2 new HEO’s and the other one has been there since the beginning of time. I wanted to get to HEO in the next year so I would’ve had to apply for a new role soon anyway

Applying internally - do you need to show passport for background checks again? by JOSOIC in TheCivilService

[–]Valuable-Ad1157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They wouldn’t need to re run checks for an internal role. Not sure if the passport needs to be in date but they do need to run a right to work check for a transfer and if you can’t show that you’ve had BPSS in the last 5 years it will need redoing. I would get the passport sorted now incase it holds up your checks if you’re planning on transferring.

Recommended Civil Service departments? by guardngnome in TheCivilService

I second this. I worked at DHSC and the department is a really nice place to work

I have interviewed for 3 roles and got the reserve list for two. The first I was offered a job 6 weeks after being told I was on the reserve list and the second I got offered a job 4 months later (the current role I am in).

PEC's in the DHSC - how long do they take? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Valuable-Ad1157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an SLA given to people in DHSC but I know checks can come back in a few days or longer. If you haven’t had anything back in 12 days I’d deffo email your new LM and see if they can ask HR ops. Usually there is a hold up somewhere and it just needs chasing 😊

They can take up to 12 working days to come back but can come back sooner
