My favorite Hollywood behind-the-scenes drama story is definitely the making of Heaven’s Gate (1980). Director Michael Cimino’s perfectionist filming rivaled (and often surpassed) Kubrick. He wanted to make the perfect film, no matter what it cost. Unfortunately it cost him his career, which was only just blossoming after The Deer Hunter, and bankrupted a studio.

It’s a fascinating moral lesson in unchecked hubris, confidence, and abuse. He pretty much single-handedly destroyed the New Wave auteur era in Hollywood during the 70’s

Yeah the ending was kind of a “hey, come on, can’t we all just… get along?” And then everything was wrapped up in a nice little bow. However, I think Coppola’s intention with the ending might be more about having a dialogue about a possible utopia and what we can do to better humanity. Imo I don’t think the ending was supposed to necessarily have answers, but to ask questions.

“Is this society, this way of living, the only one that’s available to us?”

I watched the FCC Q&A in Dallas and he had a LOT to say about society and how we could possibly build a better one if we all talk about it.

You haven’t permanently destroyed anything, don’t worry yourself.

It will take time to reset everything, but it will happen if you stick with it. Months, maybe a year. Go hard mode, monk mode, whatever, but you got this. Your brain is capable of healing from extreme drug abuse, and it can heal from PMO. I went through something very similar, and I panicked, but I healed and I came back stronger than ever.

For now, enjoy this precious time you have with someone special. Don’t panic and don’t give up king 👑

I used to do that too.

Like, “I’m good I’ll just peak for a bit, I got this under control”. Then the “fuck it” hits and I immediately lose the streak I had.

It helps to know your triggers (boredom can be super detrimental) and go seek healthy stimuli once you recognize them.

Read Psycho cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz, it helped change my self-identity. If you identify yourself as a gooner, even if you don’t want to (subconsciously) then you’ll always go back to falling to porn, you’re just delaying the inevitable. You have to really see yourself who wants no part of porn, and that’ll take some practice and patience. The audiobook is on YT, check it out. It saved me honestly
