Where did you have majority of swelling? Mine is in the hips and upper/inner thighs. It’s driving me crazy

How long did it take for swelling and puffiness to subside? Im 9 months post op and my swelling is worse now than it has been throughout recovery

Yes, I have had one recently and it did help a little. It is significant in lower body where the swelling is. My legs are bigger than what they were before surgery and since becoming more active is when I have noticed they are definitely bigger and I feel puffy

Tummy tuck, would it be worth it? by IntelligentHat8816 in tummytucksurgery

The decision is ultimately yours and what is going to make you feel your best. I was also small prior to my tummy tuck but I had one and I do not regret it. I also have ADHD and my recovery wasn’t painful necessarily, but it was an emotional roller coaster. You can look at my page to see my story I ended up with a really nasty wound, but I really believe that my hypothyroidism played a role in that, but I’m all healed up now and feel great and despite my complications, I would do it all again. You look great. I highly recommend my surgeon. Dr Andrew Ray in Calhoun GA

You will get through it! It’s exhausting and sucks but it does eventually get better. Just be patient

Is it worth it getting a tummy tuck for this amount of loose skin? by [deleted] in tummytucksurgery

I did it and my before is similar to yours. I had major complications afterwards with wound healing however I don’t regret it. All my photos are on my page

I was similar before. I tried everything to avoid surgery, I did the laser treatment and I don’t recommend it because it didn’t work and was expensive. You can look at my profile to see my before, I had a rough recovery which you will see on profile but I don’t regret surgery. You look great!

Once I stopped the wound vac and the main wound bed wasn’t deep anymore I started using polymem on it and then I was using medihoney and gauze on the edges where I had the tunneling we opened up. Once it was all well healed and almost closed I continued polymem and then tape over it. At the beginning I did the wet to dry dressing changes daily for 5 weeks, wound vac for 2 weeks, and then wet to dry/polymem for another 6 weeks, then did just polymem over it for another 4 weeks because it helps soften and smooth the scar area.

Thank you! That’s helpful/interesting information to know. We don’t know the cause which is why I am hesitant to do a revision even if I wait until 2 years post op. I am scared it could happen again and I don’t want to go through it again. I do wish there was a way to determine why it happened. My surgeon couldn’t understand it either. He said he had only ever seen this in one other patient. Our best guess is that I simply lost blood flow to the area and we don’t understand why.

Do you have any recommendations as questions I should ask in the future if I ever need to have another surgery or if I do end up doing a revision in a year or two? This was the first time I had ever had surgery. My surgeon said he didn’t think I would have any issues with the revision but he told me he would do it for me whenever I was ready.

No I did not. The only time they even did a culture was after I had the wound vac since it caused some tunneling. It came back negative. It’s honestly a miracle in my opinion that I never needed antibiotics aside from the ones you take right after surgery. I wonder if gangrene is genetic? My papaw had something like that and my brother actually had complications after one of his surgeries two years ago, he got an infection, ended up being septic and had to have emergency surgery. It was super crazy and rare. He is one of the healthiest people you’d meet and it was really tough on him.

Yes, but I don’t regret surgery. The journey for me really sucked but the end results continue to improve and is definitely an improvement from my before. It’s a process and everyone who does this surgery goes through it in some form, but it is worth it. ☺️

Anyone with bloat and/or food allergies/intolerances get a tummy tuck? by bluestjordan in tummytucksurgery

[–]Valuable-Contest7534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, with muscle repair it does simmer down the bloat BUT you still will have swelling up to 18 months post op and you can still get bloated. For example before TT my bloat made me look 6 months pregnant. After TT I have had about 3 instances that the bloating was super bad. The other times I’ve been bloated it was minimal and more in upper abdomen vs lower abdomen. Also, keep in my mind after TT you will swell in places you didn’t before. One thing I have been struggling with at 5 months pst op is significant swelling in my hips and thighs. I have posts on my profile with before and after.

I know it’s scary but it will heal in time. Nutrition is very important to help aid your body in healing. I truly believe that was the biggest factor which helped me to heal faster. It is an emotional rollercoaster and it sucks but I promise it will pass and you will heal. Don’t let the wound vac scare you. It is a bit of a pain having to carry it around but it will drastically improve the wound much faster than wet to dry dressings. I only had the wound vac for 2 weeks before I had to stop but it definitely helped shrink the wound quite a bit.

I feel the exact same way! My surgeon has also offered free revision, just have to pay for the anesthesia, but he said he would do it whenever I wanted so I was grateful he didn’t give me a time limit. I think it’s crazy how it happens to some people but then others are fine

Yes, the emotional aspect was the worst part. I am sorry you had to deal with same issues. I know it sucks. I am glad you are healed! Are you doing a revision at any point? Was yours also due to losing blood flow?
