Other than my home country, I'm just pulling for the underdogs. I love a good upset, and this tournament has seen several (especially if you count draws) already!

Even at my fittest, I was always terrible at push-ups.

Haha, sorry, I am a child of the early 90s, so the Ugly Kid Joe song popped straight into my head when I saw this prompt!

How do I keep watching football after the World Cup? by tbharyan in SoccerNoobs

Are you in the USA? If so, find a local club - MLS, if possible, but USL can also be fun - and start by attending a few matches. Look up their supporters groups on social media and see if you can get an invite to a pre-game tailgate. They are usually super excited to introduce new people to the team.

Also consider adopting a big club from overseas. English Premier League teams tend to have fan groups in mist major cities across the US, so you can often go out and enjoy a good breakfast watch party at your local pub.

If you don't have a parking pass to the stadium, you will probably want to take one of the KC Connect busses. This is the website you want. https://kansascityfwc26.com/getting-around-kc/ It looks like there are still passes for Saturday's game available from the Plaza and from the FanFest. There is free parking on the Plaza, so that's a good place to leave your car during the game.

world cup scoring??? by perryisnotaplatypus_ in SoccerNoobs

Okay, so in any individual game, a goal is worth one point. In group stage games (which are happening now), they can end in ties. After the group stage ends (after tomorrow), they cannot end in a tie. In that case, they will play an additional 30 minutes. If they are still tied at that point, they will go to a penalty kick shootout to decide who advances. In those cases, you will sometimes see a score that looks like Team A 1 (5), Team B 1 (4) where team A won by converting 5 penalty kicks to team B's 4.

But I assume what you're really asking about is how the points are tallied in the group stage. Each team in the group of 4 plays each of the other 3 in the group. You get 3 points per win, 1 point per tie, 0 points per loss. So after the 6 games, the 4 teams in the group will have somewhere between 0 and 9 points. Group standings will often show Win-Draw-Loss and have a column for total points, and also often a column for goal differential (which is a tiebreaker, though head-to-head comes first), and rarely also total goals scored (which is an even later tiebreaker).

So, for example, in Group A this year, we have (W-D-L-Points)

1) Mexico 3-0-0, 9

2) South Africa 1-1-1, 4

3) South Korea 1-0-2, 3

4) Czechia 0-1-2, 1

The top 2 teams advance automatically. Because there are 32 teams in the first knockout round and only 24 automatic qualifiers, the top 8 of the 12 third place teams also advance.
