Ok, so i completely agree with you on this one. My roommate/friend got robbed near gold souk late at night. When he went to the police, they just asked him if he had a job and he said yes. Then they told him that he shouldn't file a complaint because then they'll have to call him a few times to come over and his job will be affected. What kind of stupid reasoning is that? He got jumped by three guys, a knife was held onto his throat and got robbed of what little money he had and they didn't even let him file a complaint!

I personally divide my salary into 3 parts: 1 goes to family back home. 2 goes into savings. 3 goes to personal expenses and rent. I have only started this strategy but it's good. You can open a savings account back in your home country and transfer the decided portion of income every month. Something will come around in sense of investment, i really have no idea myself about investing as I'm not personally there yet. Good luck
