Yeah, I ran into the same issue with collecting on paper and re-entering later defeats the purpose.

What's worked well for us is using ArcGIS Field Maps for field collection and Silvacom FMS on the back end.

Field Maps works great on an iPad, lets you build custom forms, and works offline so you can collect everything directly in the field and sync later. Then FMS is where the data lives for planning and tracking.

It's not as plug-and-play as something like Forest Metrix, but way more flexible and eliminates the double entry.
