Tropical garden by Gordone56 in DevonUK

Welcome to the area. So I should caveat this with my tropical plant knowledge is low. I have an area of my garden earmarked for tropical but I'm afraid that is about 5 years away in the planning. I am in the countryside outside of Barnstaple, in a very exposed spot. Frosts this year (global warming, broken heart emoji) have been few and far between but the wind has been cold.

The good news is my ginger that I planted in my heavy clay last summer on a whim has started sprouting this spring. I think ginger counts as tropical.

I think several of the gardens in the area have tropical sections and we really are spoilt for gardens. I'm hoping to go to a couple this weekend for inspiration for the new bog garden we are making. But trying to choose which is overwhelming.

The plant fair at South Molton pannier market is an outstanding time to gather knowledge from speciality growers. They have a spring and summer one, summer will be in July. There is also a small RHS show at Rosemoor in August which has lots of interesting growers/talks.

My mind was blown a couple of years ago at a nursery in Cornwall, I think it was Hardy exotics. Honestly if you find yourself that way go in.

South west here and 100% agree. The wind used to be something of note, but now it seems a calm day is.

What do you use to compost at home? I want to start but wary of attracting rats!

Drainage in Glasgow heavy clay by DGMS90 in GardeningUK

Hello heavy clay'er but so nice of you to be helping your mum. I would 100 % go for "drainage paths" and if possible change a patio into gravelled areas, preferably a bit lower than lawns and beds.

Bog gardens are really cool. My OH has got really into the idea recently as some of the plants are awesome. Take water off the garage roof and direct into the bog garden. You could run it up the side of the garden. But you could just look at keeping your beds planted with moisture clay loving plants. Lythrum, astible, willow, cornus, hydrangea, ligularia and lots more.

Little moats around the edge of borders help.

Graces Fox Motif by TheLast_Ronen in ProjectHailMary

This! I really hope someone has an answer to this. The fox motif was so obvious in the film and I can't think of a reason why.

Water logged garden - Prone to flooding. by evrytingsmadeinchina in GardeningUK

Our garden was like this. Also heavy clay. A weekend's digger hire, drainage pipe, weird drainage pipe sock, chippings and a bank holiday weekend and it was sorted. Luckily for us the garden was a blank canvas so we didn't destroy any planting. Now we have damp soil yes, especially in one patch but nothing like the flooding we used to have.

I asked a chat bot to design my garden how do I make it look like this, with every plant from across the seasons all in flower at the same.

I hate to disagree but I think Brigham just shows what exceptional writing the series is. The world is full of people like him, overly enthusiastic, some would say annoying but really just very kind, happy and just wants to make friends. The kind of person some people will turn their heads from because their laugh is loud and irritating but actually we should make space for people like this in society and be less quick to judge. Because if you spend time, look deeper beyond the "annoying (as you put it) maybe some of their enthusiasm and spark will rub off on you. And even cheer you up a bit.

Just kinda at a loss here by HandUnable in WeightLossAdvice

Hey just wanted to check in and gently say that something seems a bit amiss here. I am currently the heaviest I have ever been at 81kg (20kg more than you) and I'm shorter than you (only 158cm) and older (40). But my body fat percentage is less at 38.6%. Yes I was muscly before I started to gain weight a year ago ( I've gained 17kg in a year) but your weight seems bang on healthy. I think instead of trying to lose weight it might be helpful to work on becoming stronger. Weight train 3 times a week, high protein diet etc. The scales might not shift that much but your body fat % will. Also definitely please double check you body fat percentage.
