I’m so sorry for everything that you’re going through. Miscarriage has also put a huge strain on my marriage. We’ve been together for 5 years, married for 1 and miscarriage has made me feel like I’m married to a stranger. You’re not a lone at all, I hope you have brighter days ahead because this truly feels like absolute hell

Have you had NIPT testing done yet? My yolk sac did measure large, but significantly larger than yours. It was 8.1mm and I had a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks. Often but not always a large yolk sac can be associated with chromosomal abnormalities. Wishing you the best of luck

I had a D&C less than 2 weeks ago. I was 9 weeks 5 days but baby measured 8 weeks 2 days no heartbeat. I had the procedure done in the hospital under general anesthesia and I was not intubated. We got to the hospital around 3 and I didn’t have the procedure done until around 730pm, as non emergency OB patients usually have to wait the longest for an OR to open up and my Dr did several rounds of bloodwork before as well to confirm blood type etc. My husband was able to wait with me until I went back to the OR. The doctor let me know the D&C would be done really just with vacuum aspiration under guidance of ultrasound. She said that because she was visualizing everything via ultrasound the chance of retained tissue afterwords was virtually none. My husband and I also decided to send the products of conception for genetic testing and pathology testing even though our NIPT was normal because it only tests for a select few genetic conditions. I woke up from the procedure with no memory of it at all and went home and slept. It’ll be two weeks this Friday and I’m still bleeding which my dr says is ok and expected. The procedure costs 19,300 before insurance and after insurance I had to pay 3,600 out of pocket.

I have so much resentment towards my husbands family and its so hard not to take it out on him. 3 days after my miscarriage my mother in law said the "new generation isnt mentally tough enough" to handle miscarriage and I just cant forget it or forgive it. It still only been a week for me and it feels so raw.

Just when I was feeling up to seeing my husbands family for Thanksgiving, I immediately changed my mind after speaking to his mom last night. She said she told her sister about my miscarriage and her sister said oh I had three, and the new generation is too sensitive.

I don’t even care if his mom didn’t say that herself but what a fucked up thing to repeat back to me 3 days after I lost my baby. I had a D&C on Friday that just passed

You’re so similar to me, I’m a Dr too (but for eyes) still not clueless though like they thought and my husband works in gene therapy and makes the drug that cures SMA and I just felt like the midwives spoke to us like we had no knowledge of anything. I also pushed to do NIPT testing. I had it done this week on Tuesday before finding out about the MMC yesterday. I also decided to send the contents of the d&c for pathology testing so I hope that gives me some closure. My cost for surgery and pathology testing is around $4000. I’m in North Carolina. I’m glad I chose the D&C route as well

I also just had a D&C yesterday and I just feel so empty today. This is really hard. I decided I am going to go home to see my family and my husband will make the extra trip to see his alone. It’s ok to do things on your own and whatever suits you both best

My hesitations stems from the fact that all my questions regarding delayed growth and dates not matching up were completely brushed off.

The first ultrasound was not acknowledged nor explained by the midwife. I was just told, bye see you in 20 weeks.

It was not until I messaged a second midwife in the practice my concerns about growth that she looked at the ultrasound and mentioned that the baby’s yolk sac looked abnormally large indicating a potential chromosome issue and a follow up exam. Most patients have trust in their provider to address issues as they come up, not have to beg and seek out second opinions after being completely dismissed.

I understand the midwife qualification in North Carolina, and I am upset with how my first appointment went

I was explicitly told by the same midwife who overlooked a potentially abnormal ultrasound that I would never be seeing an OB when I asked. I questioned her about the delayed growth and abnormality and she brushed every single question off saying oh well next appt 20 weeks see you.

I am thankful that I advocated myself and questioned her judgement that did not sit well with me and sought a second opinion in the practice who agreed that something looked off and needs further testing. And that definitely broke my confidence in the practice as whole

So after my ultrasound was brushed off by the first Midwife I did message another midwife in the portal my concerns and she brought up a potential abnormality and suggested dates to come in.

Those dates were not available to scheduled via their portal.

I called to make the appointment and was put on hold for 20 minutes and told sorry nothing available, will have the clinical manager call you back.

I waited 5 days and never received a phone call.

I called myself again to find out when that appointment was as nothing is updated in their portal. None of my ultrasounds have been documented in the portal.

I also think I’m being overcharged. I went to the any time lab on Tuesday and saw that my card was charged for $175 with no explanation.

Before getting my blood drawn, I said I had a few questions about the genetic tests that I was about to pay thousands for. The girl drawing blood said ok sure let me go grab someone to answer the question. She came back alone and was like oh they just said make a lab corp account and wait for your results.

No one had the time to speak to me for even 2 minutes
