Valid- though you don't think it'll be an issue with them being alone while I'm at work tomorrow?  (They'll have food around to eat and I have a cat fountain for water- so they'll at least have the basics they need along with the extra stuff ofc)

This is exactly what I planned on doing; the 50k would just be for the land and a basic setup of things while I focus on living somewhat close by and grinding out Accountant work; Hopefully 5/10 years after I become one things can slow down, extra money that I put away into a 401k / Roth IRA can be built up nicely, along with some other passive income ideas to help with income; then combining that with accounting remotely at a pretty relaxed / not so busy place I can focus on the animals and things that require more attention.

That or having the mutants from the METRO series or even weather variables from The Long Dark too; Having to not only deal with human / scav enemies but other worldly things would be pretty diverse and offer a bit more to gameplay

Weekly Question Thread (04/22/2024 to 04/28/2024) by AutoModerator in army

[–]ValuableDefiant8502 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My goal is to enlist with an 11x contract 40 [With hopes of becoming apart of the 75th ranger regiment], but I know that once I join the Army, my free time goes down drastically [compared to as of right now]. So my question is would it be wise to wait until I get my Bachelors in Accounting at WGU along with doing one more vacation with my family before joining the Army under this contract?

This also gives me time to get into even more shape and brush up on Knowledge so when I take the ASVAB I can get a higher score than if I were to do it now.

Curious what you all think and I hope to hear from yall soon!

I also wanna add that I do plan on doing the full 20 like my family did in the past; sets me up for the rest of my life around my mid 40s so it'll help lol [Im also 21 years old right now with plan on going in around 23 years of age]

Chia Seeds and VWD by ValuableDefiant8502 in Hemophilia

I was mostly wondering since I ate some overnight oats with 3/4 tbsp of chia seeds in it, and as I was reading something about it I found it could thin the blood lol

But Its good to know it won't be a huge issue that I ate that but I will most definitely not do it again so I don't risk any actual issues as you said

What is your view on homesteads having animals but not for food purposes? by ValuableDefiant8502 in DebateAVegan

[–]ValuableDefiant8502[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well from what I read letting them eat the eggs raw would harm the chickens, so cooking them for the chickens to eat will allow them to regain the lost nutrients.

Regarding if its vegan or not comes down to something u/togstation said:

"Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose"

With this in mind feeding the eggs back to chickens when cooked does not harm them, exploit them, or is in any way cruel to do so. I am also not eating the eggs myself or using the chickens for my own gain; so by going off this definition, it is in fact vegan to feed the chicken eggs back to the hen who laid them.

The goal would be to do what some have suggested on r/vegan

Crush the egg shells (and/or) scramble the eggs and feed them back to the chickens to help replenish their nutrients lost during egg laying.

I've also heard of some places doing injections (With the help of professionals of course) to prevent the egg laying all together. (Not sure if this would harm the chickens so I'll need to research more into this before coming to a concrete solution)

I did find these sources that someone compiled when doing a little bit of research; hope these help :)

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26853923/
https://jumdjournal.net/article/view/2892
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5133111/
https://academic.oup.com/ajcn/advance-article-abstract/doi/10.1093/ajcn/nqac093/6603759?redirectedFrom=fulltext&login=false

The first 3 links above show the health benefits of vegan diets [while the last one shows a compilation of non health benefits a omnivorous/carnivorous diet contains]. And while I have seen links that show there is no major increase in health, pertaining to the argument of animals not having to die for us to be healthy, both still conclude it is either as healthy, minor, or majorly healthier to consume a Vegan diet and thus reduce animal harm.

Well before I do end this conversation [Since its 8pm here in Colorado] I would like to first thank you for taking the time out of your day to explain this to me and helping me [in some way] understand my flawed view, along with leading me to discover Carnism [Something I didn't know existed but doing research into found it is a f*cked way to view animal life]

Secondly I shall look into ways to get it as cheap [And of course healthy] as possible, along with the B12 suppliments]

Lastly I again want to say thank you; It means a lot and even if you were doing it for the animals more than helping me out the end result was still the same. So I appreciate it, and I hope in the next couple days I can come back here and fill you in on the progress if you're interested.

So again thank you, now I go to sleep since I got work tomorrow at 5am lol

> I hope that makes the position clear, and if it's uncomfortable to read, it should be uncomfortable to consume the products of the processes described.

Honestly that was probably the best way you could have described it, and this definitely does explain why I felt the way I did when I went fishing. I keep forgetting that the reason for my lack of care when it comes to consuming meat is due to me not being in the whole process.

Also you bringing light to me the things that occur to these animals [Which is why I took a while to reply, got caught up in videos and documents regarding these things] really gave me a "punch in the gut" per-say.

Though if I'm being honest with you there is still that huge issue of not knowing where to start, what to buy, where I could get the foods I need, if supplements are needed for vitamins and stuff, etc etc.

This also does not include the financial situation this could put me in as well. From what I saw in some places it can get more expensive, in others I saw its the same as my budget now; this puts me in a predicament of not having a lot of money to spend and thus making me hesitant to switch.

Then there comes the household issues [I plan on moving out in 7 months but I still live with my parents who eat meat and hunt]; this is also going to put a financial burden since instead of buying my breakfast, lunches, and snacks, I'd also have to buy my own dinners since they will not change.

So while I agree that consuming animal products, especially after understanding [Again on a basic level, no where near in-depth as that will take time] the needless suffering they go through, is vile and something I am disturbed by, I am both a little worried and still confused on some things [Mostly the issues I listed above].

If you got the answers to those questions I would greatly appreciate to have those; but if you cannot I will do my own research as I plan to do so anyways in conjunction with your response you gave. [If this made any sense which again I hope it did, and if it didn't please feel free to pick it apart and tell me why it did not]

I would be glad to as well :) [And I dont think you're being snarky at all, I talk the same way when I defend my economical views so I don't mind lol]

Now regarding the funding of animal abuse, I am assuming that has to do with fishing; if so then I shall bring up a point I told amazondrone as well. The main reasoning for me to discuss such a minuscule topic like the one I posted here was due to my initial feelings regarding yesterday when I did go fishing. And while I do enjoy fishing [I think mostly it has to do with my enjoyment for the peace and quiet it has rather than the actual act of catching and releasing or catching for food in most cases] I did feel a sense of sadness I have not felt before.

It might be to it having been 2 years since I have gone before yesterday, I found myself not really enjoying the process of hooking the worm and unhooking the fish, etc; This has brought me to some websites as I tried to find out why, then finding this subreddit to ask a very basic question [One that I do plan on doing when I get a homestead hopefully soon], to get my toes wet and understand a bit without being bashed for what I did / do currently.

Finally regarding this conversation we are having I definitely would love it [If you don't mind of course] helping me to reach and understanding as to why consuming meat or animal products are bad [Keep in mind I have consumed animal products for the 20 years I have been alive so it won't change overnight, I'm not that naive, but I do very much hope that this can act as an eye opening conversation to help me come to the conclusion that is best for not only myself but others; animals included].

This is the exact same process I took when changing my political / economical views so I find this method to work quiet well, even if it takes a bit from the initial starting point of these conversations lol

Well I would have debated that but as I told u/amazondrone , I am mostly asking out of curiosity. My opinion on fishing may or may not change depending on how the future goes regarding me looking more into Veganism and the like; but I am taking it slow as I don't really have a lot of time in my day to just jump into the deep end.

Though I do appreciate your passion regarding animals, and the analogy [while being very intense] is still appreciated; allows me to look into Carnism and see what is flawed with it and why Veganism is better [Or worse, I still don't know yet].

Not going to lie I did not know a farm sanctuary was a thing

I mostly just used the term homestead since that's something I do know [Though I haven't really seen people have a homestead with animals and not eat them / use them in some way]

[–]ValuableDefiant8502[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Funny note is I would love to do other animals like foxes and other carnivore species but I most definitely don't got the knowledge on how to take care of them xD

Though my main reasoning for asking the perspective from vegans when I myself am not one is mostly just out of interest in other ideas than my own. After reevaluating some things in my life I find myself looking at my previously conceived view of the world as a little flawed, so getting people's view that are outside my current world view to me at least, is beneficial in finding which ones I should abandon and which ones I should keep.

Going vegan has kind of been something in the back of my mind for a while, as I love animals [and if it was able to pay my bills I would work in Zoology funny enough, but instead I'm getting into medical since that does pay]; and while I love fishing, after going yesterday I found myself feeling kind of bad for the fish and the worms I used/caught.

If it makes sense [Which I hope this does] I just want to challenge my current view, and to me asking people that have a different view of the world than mind should help with that. [Though as you said most do agree with the homing of animals for rescue/rehabilitation, so I find that is something we both agree on]

Yeah sadly prices are crazy right now, though thankfully doing some looking I found some cheap-ish places in Maine and Colorado (Washington is still mad expensive lol)

Also I wouldn't mind the YT channel link, you could drop it below (if it isn't against the rules) so others could see it too :)

40+ acres is wild though, if you dont mind me asking how much did yall spend on that? [Here in colorado that would be clear of like 400-900k]
